No - the callers are scammers.  Per the FDCPA, you should not pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - do not accept email or fax - proof of debt/proof your caller has the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this documentation within five days of their first contact is a violation of federal law.  In other words, no written, verifiable proof mailed = do not pay them, per the FDCPA!

I really have to commend you on following through in your research. It has eased my mind knowing that people like you who really cares with such compassion. I like myself have received numerous calls from these gentlemen " Mr. Brian Webb and Mr. Sean Maxwell" from the Mariner Group within the last couple of weeks at my home of residence, cell and the workplace and it's very annoying.  I was instructed not to return these calls nor entertain the notion. Thank so much for the physical address which I will turn the tables on them and debt collect them in getting the news media involved to do an investigation on their operation. I'm a native New York but reside in New Jersey. I do have friends and family all over NYC and be more than happy to escort me to their place of business and put them in the hot seat giving them a taste of their own medicine. In these economical times people are trying hard enough just to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table we don't need someone trying to take the last of what we have. Once again thank you so much for the information it means a great deal.

Have a bless evening

I received a call from a Rebecca Casta from Mariner and Assoc, telling me that I had a payday loan from July 2013,that I never paid and that I banked with Bank of the West, worked at a totally different place, and that there was an outstanding bill of $1056. Everything was wrong with her statements, and when I started questioning her she hung up on me halfway thru the conversation. Look out for these idiots!!

Got a call from them a MR. Enders 8555434300 about an online bank loan borrowed on my acct last year. I do not have checks.  Where do they get your information.  I have a fraud alert on my credit report for years now because of exactly that fraud. He wanted to take my statement down right away but instead I asked him how they get my info because I never disclose that and he is not allowed to call me at work.  I told him that seem absurd I would have to research give all your info.  Then he said he would put a hold on my acct for 48 hours.  Is this possible where do I go from here?

I got a call fro a Mr. Thompson, who had a deep sounding voice. He told me that I had a on line pay day loan from Bottom Dollar in default and was getting my wages deducted from them. He said that I would end up owing close to $2700 by the time it was done. He gave me my Bank name but the account numbers where wrong and that it was a Checking account, which it is not. He was talking or conferring with  lady named Mrs. Russell. Watch out guys.

Didn't answer phone because I didn't recognize the number. I called the number (855-543-4300). It was an automated answering machine identifying it as Mariner and associates telling me to press zero if it was regarding a wage garnishment,
judgment or  lien.  When I got a live person on the line they checked my phone # and asked  if I was Yvonne Vargo.  No.  I am 80 years old so I knew the call wasn't for me but the whole thing just didn't set well so I went on the internet and searched Mariner and  assoc. and got this website.

Prank Call
I have recieved several calls from Mariner and Associates to my cell and work number. They reference a file number and the first time I actually talked to her she said she had paper to serve me with and that I could put a stop on it by calling a number. I didn't call and I was never served. She called backed repeatedly and left messages saying that if I didn't call her back then they were going to file in my county. They are scammers and need to be stopped. The lady that called me is named Florence and her number is 855-543-4300 ext. 334 She mentioned me needing my attorney to call her and they do a decent job at sounding legit but no legitimate but NO legitimate company would operate this way. Professional Scammers! Ain't nobody got time for that!

This is classic: Got a voicemail from a gentlemen stating that he was going to be driving to my house tomorrow to deliver papers and requesting my signature.... he then goes on to say that if I was not there or do not agree to sign that he will go to my work and demand a manager witness the signature.... In order to stop these actions from taking place I must call him back within 2hrs or i will see him tomorrow!! CLASSIC!!! These guys are comical at best! What a nice little scam they have going here!!

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Make a demand that they send you a written statement of the debt giving all the particulars.  If you have a legitimate debt you can  deal with the creditor.  But this looks like a scam.  They won't send you anything and there is no law case filed against you.  You can go to your local police department and report the scam.  You can usually check with the clerk of your local county courts to find out if any case has been filed against you.   They call you again, tell them to either give you a written statement delivered by US mail, if they won't , tell 'em to go to hell.  That's what I'd do.
