I have received several calls from the NRA from various numbers all in the 855 Area Code in the past few days. I guess they want me to buy something in add-on to my basic membership besides the firearms insurance that I signed up. Anyway, today I saw your post and followed your instructions. The recording said that, while legally they up to 30 days to remove my phone number, they will make every effort to remove me in two days. Again, thanks for your tip!

I got tired of all these calls and bought me a good Call Blocker. Can now block individual calls, area number calls and block ID names. I like the Digitone.

Called before... no message. Called again... no message. No answer from me at anytime... No money to them. Pretty soon IF we ALL do this, they will go away.

Called, left no message, shows only "0" on Caller ID.
From AreaCode.org: "Area Code 855 Detail: Area code 855 is a future area code reserved for toll-free calls in which the calling party is not charged. Instead, the telephone carrier charges the cost of the call to the called party. Toll-free numbers, such as 855 numbers, have applications such as technical support, customer service, and personal use."
Bottom Line: They are charging YOU for their long-distance call. In this day and age, where most phone plans have unlimited free long-distance, this is ABSURD. I am writing my Congressman, asking him to write regulation forbidding this practice.
I've also blocked ALL 855 area code callers in my system. Whether you do the same is up to you.

It is NOT the NRA. The NRA doesn't use the 855 area code.

Keep getting this at work. Probably some Gay Lib F** nonsense posing as NRA, recovery, whatever
Otter 2014-04-05 00:05:38 Unknown
This is a scam call saying they are someone they are not. The real National Rifle Association is not behind these calls. This is a scam call looking to rip you off. They are not the real NRA. They use the NRA letters to try to fool people. They have called so far under three different numbers. Scum bags, but don't blame the real NRA which is a decent organization that occasionally calls their members with update information. This is not who calls from these 855 or 888 numbers at all hours. I've gotten calls from the real NRA. They do not act like these scammers.

What other callers are exempt from the DNC list, other than political groups and debt collectors?
If there are more than these, then it defeats the purpose of being on the DNC list.
There should not be ANY exemptions.

Left wing moron.

Got the call and hung up. Didn't bother to call back in fear of getting charged.
kat 2014-02-06 17:44:17 Unknown
Another number we keep getting calls from ID says anonymous. I don't think it should even be legal for anyone to block their number because more times than not its a damn telemarketing call or just an out and out scam.

They call repeatedly from numerous numbers..this is National Recovery Associates, not the real NRA. They are bottom feeders trying to collect on non-existent debts or debts past the Statute of Limitations. They get very abusive on the phone when calling so file a complaint if they harass you.

I have just found this site so I have not been collecting info on all the calls I've gotten. I am lucky enough to have a phone system that allows me to block up to 30 numbers. This is one of the numbers I've blocked. I am maxed out! I was getting at least one call a day and often 2 or 3. Since blocking these 30 numbers the calls have dropped to almost nothing. It appears that either it is the same jerks or the word gets around that the calls are being blocked. I will pay more attention to the calls from this point forward.

I have been an NRA member for over 50 years. I received a call from the 855- number last night at 8:30 PM EST. Today I phoned the NRA and after speaking to three answerers I spoke to Ricky at Corporate headquarters. 703-267-3748. He confirmed that this is indeed a legitimate agent and NOT a scam. So I processed the 5 year deal for $100 and a Bass pro shop coupon for $30.

Call me with questions. Otherwise this is a good deal and totally legitimate safely.

I called and they identified themselves as the National Rifle Association, and they would call back later with more information. If I wanted to know more, I was to press 1, which gave me a nice description of the organization. After that, they gave me 2 more numbers to press. "3" is the number to press to take me off the list.
dave 2013-12-02 14:13:02 Unknown
Holy cow! what is happening to this phone number. For six pages so many posters just knew it was the National Rifle Association calling and not a spoofed call by a sewer sucking collector named National Recovery Agency.
And now, Its the IRS, scammers and other unwanted callers? What happened? Could it be possible that people are just plain stupid?
jumbles 2013-12-02 14:09:23 Unknown
Wait a minute Joe! Are you sure it wasn't the National Rifle Association calling and spoofing the IRS?
Of course 2013-12-02 14:06:54 Unknown
Of course you got the national rifle assoc when you called back. Have you read any of the previous posts explaining why? The dirt bag collector National Recovery Agency (NRA) spoofs the National Rifle Association (NRA) so that when you call back, that's who you get and that is who you think called you. It was on the friggin news! Think about it....What national organization, that is dependent upon donations and a membership base for financial support, would commit political suicide by making these calls and then be fool enough to give their number for call back? People are dumber than soup!
sid 2013-12-02 13:55:16 Unknown
Thank you for answering your phone and recognizing, and posting who it is that is actually making the calls.
essex 2013-12-02 13:51:58 Unknown
I am assuming you are referring to the National Recovery Agency, the bottom feeding debt collector who is actually making these calls and when you don't answer you have the NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION GIVEN AS THE CALL BACK NUMBER. As many times as this has been posted and even been on the news, you'd think people would get the picture that the National Recovery agency will only talk to you, if you answer your phone. Its called the element of surprise so they can intimidate you. If you don't answer, they spoof the national rifle assoc to call back so that dumb a***s will think it was they who called them.

Get a digitone call blocker. Automatically blocks out of area calls. Best $$ spent for peace of mind. The phone doesn't even ring. These calls get hung up after the 1st ring. Easy to block calls.
dave 2013-11-22 22:45:38 Unknown
The fun ends when your caller starts using your phone number as his call back number to opt out of calls.
A lady reported on this board about a year ago that her phone started ringing constantly day after day and it was people screaming at her to remove them from the call list. She changed her phone number to stop the calls.
Paul 2013-11-22 22:38:41 Unknown
Called again. Blew the air horn into the phone after i got a person on the other end. Sorry about that, my hand must have slipped. :)

Who ever is calling me from this number is threating me . They are saying they have my social security number and if I do not call them back it will be very bad for me. I do not know who this is but I was frauded out of 3,600. dollars for a scam last month. These sound like the same people but with a different name. When I call they do not state their business just the name of the man that calls which is Harvey Jones with threats that they will use my social security number. I want this harassment to stop but do not know how. I have already been to the Sherriff and got a report from them about the matter before and I will call the officer again and let him know about this. I do have it recorded so they can hear the threats.
