Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

They ARE A SCAM...I do have a loan, which I pay on time every due date, its auto deducted from my bank account.  These people try about every two weeks.  I DO work for a collections law firm (construction) you are REQUIRED BY LAW to disclose you are a debt collection agency, any and all information backing up your clients claim and you MAY NOT use any threats or intimidation.  Failure to comply with any of these is a direct violation of the Fair Credit Reporting and Debt Collection Act.

This is another bogus number from L.Ryan Homeland Law P.C. firm.
They keep calling me and I thought it was legitimate, gave them a prepaid card and made arrangements.
But then I started to think about it and had never received anything in the mail from them.
So I have not loaded the card. Then I find out they are connected to a company called Integrity management out of Buffalo,NY. Who was trying to charge my card for the law firm. It seems they are under fire for illegal activities too. Look them up on Google and it comes back with some interesting  information.

These people are horrible... the castrate, and won't give you honest answers. They're crooks, and I wouldn't pay them even if I could.  They state they're lawyers, yet don't have a website, they can't even give you an accurate address. They don't know even the creditors they're trying to get. They like to bully, and scare you into going to jail. They're crooks.  Dont pay them ... Look them up on the better business bureau.  They are all complaints.

Yes I am.  He just says he's from the Copeland Law Firm and leaves this number.  I looked it up online and they just have a basic site up saying they are a collections firm.  I sent an e-mail to the e-mail address on the site asking for them to send me validation of this debt and not to call me at work anymore.  The email didn't go through, it failed.  They called again today, about a week later.  The site has a fax and mail info so I'm going to try that.

I really think this is a SCAM.  I've had this happen to me before.  They cal saying that you have to call them back or they will persue legal action on some debt.  You may or may not owe.  They refuse to validate anything, threaten you.  Keep calling even though they are told to stop.  Even if you send them money, they'll pretend they didn't get it and keep calling.

DO NOT SEND money without them validating the debt IN WRITING.  You are fully within your rights to request a written validation of your debt.

Here is the info I have, as listed on their site:
