I got a call asking for Lara Kay.  I know no one by that name.  I am not about to give information to anyone I don't know, even if they were to ask for me by name.  If I wanna give info, I will call them.

I received a call from "Student Outreach Solutions" on behalf of Kaplan University. I earned my degree from that school, so I guess I think it's legit, but it always scares me when people talk of debt collectors and *scams*! :( I never had a problem with them while at the school, and I quickly learned that they do have zillions of phone banks in different states, so I should return calls even from unknown numbers. These folks left me a message that simply stated that I should call them back. That seemed a little bit demanding. They already had my first and last name and asked for me specifically in the message. When I called back, they asked for my date of birth (but not social), which is consistent with how Kaplan generally handled finances, to make sure it was me and not my mother or father--this is a kind of security to not allow others to mess with your financial plan. They said I was meant to start repaying my loan in 8 days, and wanted to know if I intended to pay that and if I anticipated any financial difficulties. When I told her I've already been paying it several months, she said she'd mark that on the account number. With so many students not paying back loans at all, this seems legit. If it turns out not to be, I will call the school, and tell them they are being misrepresented. A quick Google tells me other schools all use this service to contact students who have taken out loans. I walked in graduation several months after legally graduated and ended my studies, so it even seems legit that they would be delayed and think that I am not paying until now. It was annoying, but this one call, as long as it doesn't continue, seems relatively harmless. Other schools that use this are Everest, and Brown Mackie, and University of Pheonix.

Debt Collector
I received a call from this number telling me my loan payment start in 12 days when I am in college and my loans are defered. They ask me for my s.s and date of birth, which I should not have provided them this information.
