I have had the same thing happen. I got a restricted call on my cell phone threatening to come to my work on Monday unless I call and make arrangements. This is so uncommon. Thanks for the posts.

I have been getting a call from a Mr. Johnson for the last 3 days about he is going to have to come and serve me some paperwork.  He said he would come serve me yesterday and never showed.  He just called about 30 minutes ago and said the exact same spill and he would be by today!

He said I can avoid it by call 855-571-1739 and giving them a file number.  He also said that I need to have a valid id and a witness present - if I'm at work I need a supervisor?  WTH!

I called the number and it said the company is CRS - this is getting very old.  They haven't called my work.  I just wish it would stop.  Is there a way to stop this.

I have gotten other calls from different numbers - guys with very thick foreign accents and I filed a complaint with the FTC - they stopped - I want to file another complaint but this Mr. Johnson that is calling uses a "Private" or "Unknown" number!

Prank Call
I called the number back. Some dude answered "hullo" then they put some high pressure douche on the phone that was trying to convince me that the "file had already left their office by courier" but when I acted interested in making a deal on it they suddenly were able to produce "the file".

Long story short, this was a payday loan that my girlfriend made like 4+ years ago, and never paid back. (probably because they charged like 1,500% interest) DO NOT let them intimidate you. This is the worst of the worst of predatory lenders. And anybody that does collections for a payday loan provider is the absolute scum of the earth and should be dismembered/hung/shot.

If they say they are going to drop by the house or your place of work, let them. Trust me, they will never show up. This is an intimidation scan run by the worst kind of human scum.

Oh and if you are reading this, it is because you screwed over a payday loan place. GOOD JOB! LOL

Same as George above:

He identified my wife by two different last names and said they were going to be by her place of employment or home ("and various other addresses" they had on file) and that a form of ID and a supervisor must be available for a signature for papers to be served. He left this number with a case file. Really? A supervisor and a form of ID and a signature?

Thanks guys! <3

Thanks George, that's exactly what they're doing to me. Only difference is they're calling from a restricted number or a pay phone so you can't find out who the people harassing you are.  I'm still waiting for him to show up at my place of unemployment, I was laid off 2 yrs ago or my home, I moved almost 3 yrs ago. The only thing I can think of is some really old payday loans that are nearly 5 yrs old!!!!

The idiots called my business AGAIN today from a blocked ID and left this message for a former employee. They really don't listen!!! So glad they were dumb enough to leave a voice mail...

This time he said, "Final notice for [name], [name] someone will be out in the next couple hours to locate you and obtain your signature. Please have a valid form of ID. I don't not see any stand down order under your name or social security number, so, again, please make sure you have your ID and if you're at work have an immediate supervisor available. Any last minute questions or concerns, call 855-571-1739 and reference to file number [number]."

Guys, the FTC just raided, shut down and sued 6 of these companies in California (see link above). Also see the lawsuit pdf from the FTC here: http://www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/1123142/111026rinconcmpt.pdf

This is absolutely illegal and you should not fall for it.

Some guy called for a former employee and left a message on our business voicemail from an unavailable caller ID. He identified this person by two different last names and said they were going to be by that person's place of employment or home ("and various other addresses" they had on file) and that a form of ID and a supervisor must be available for a signature for papers to be served. He left this number with a case file. Really? A supervisor and a form of ID and a signature? Uhm...

Okay, you know what? I did some research... and process servers do not notify you ahead of time that they're coming. Nor do they tell you that to AVOID their visit you have to call the "filing party" and that you've failed to contact them for 30+ days. Complete scam! From what I've read, this is a common scare tactic to get people to call them and pay up on old, noncollectable (out of statute) accounts. The truth is that they have not, nor do they have any intention of filing any lawsuits and nobody will ever show up to your home or work site.

First, these people are not allowed to call from anonymous numbers. Second, they're not allowed to threaten legal action if they have no intention of actually doing it.

If that jerk shows up at my place of business trying to "serve" bogus papers to a former employee, he'll be on the receiving end of a FDCPA complaint.

See: http://www.fdcpa.me/fake-process-server-injunction/

That's just of of many resources out there that describe this scam.
