Scam call.  If you are going to be served a court summons, you wouldn't receive a phone call about it - the process server would just show up, unannounced.  Please do report these losers to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.  Remember that debt collectors (and lawyers working for, or on behalf of debt collectors) MUST mail proof of debt/proof they have the legal right to collect said debt to you within five days of their first call.  Refusal to mail this written, verifiable proof that you owe them this debt is another violation of federal law, and per the FDCPA, you should not pay them.

June 18th, 2014 I received a phone call from a blocked number, a woman trying to serve me with some legal documents. She gave me a file number because I wanted to know from who I was being served from before verifying my address. She gave me the name of Warren & Associates, file number, and phone number. I called 855-853-9078 number, a very rude woman answer the phone started threatening me, that I need to pay the balance now or I would see them at court, garnish my wages, take my current vehicle away and that everything would be very ugly. She would not let me say a word I ended up hanging up. They also contacted my sister phone number as well.

They must be using another, real attorney's information.  I Googled the address and this popped up -
http://www.avvo.com/attorneys/91731-ca-leroy-roberson-1758962.html

Mr Roberson is a REAL ESTATE attorney, NOT a debt collector.

Also, I googled the address given for them above and it is a company called District Law Firm http://www.districtlawfirm.com/about.html. It states they do loan modifications. Ripoff reports show up for them as well also stating they are "ghost attorneys"

I too, received 2 calls this morning from these people.  First was a voicemail on our listed landline asking for me by my old married name.  Ten minutes later, was a voicemail on my current husband's cell phone asking for me by full new name stating the same shpeel given to everyone else here....civil matter, going to be receiving papers, blah blah blah.  I went through an atty months ago and had some old lingering credit things fom my previous marriage on my report that got deleted from my bureau and I am well aware of what is on my bureau and I have NO outstanding debt or even new debt to anyone.  This is obviously a load of crap.  And why would they call to tell someone that they will be receiving something within a few days.  Dumb.  Also, they didn't contact MY personal cell number - I don't even know how they got my husband's.  I will definitely be reporting them AND no way in hell will I be calling them back.

So got the same call from them 3 times..... after finally calling back I discussed the FCC violations they were committing and asked for a mailing address to send cease letters. In addition I quoted them information of false claims of litigation and harassment.   At this time they did agree to remove my number from their call dialer. but we will see if that happens.

This is the address they gave me.

these people called my work and told the secretary they were from Ross Warren & Associates.
That they wanted to serve me with court order papers. They told her I would know what it was about.
I did not. That I had 24 hours to call them back or I would be served at my place of employment.
I did call my lawyers. I am waiting for a call back from my lawyers.

Yes, it appears to be a scam.   If there is a  valid debt then they have to send you a debt validation letter and it must be sent by US mail.  E-Mail no good.

Strange they would mention a 1099C Form.     I'm an enrolled agent (inactive) and a 1099C issued by a the holder of a debt would mean that the debt was forgiven.

This would mean that the amount of the debt would become taxable income to the taxpayer if it took place during the taxpayer's fiscal year.

But if the debt is forgiven, why are they bothering to try to collect on it.

Fact is, they are just trying to scare you into paying them money.  There's no way they'd issue a 1099C unless they were absolutely sure the debt was valid.  Which it may not be since they are using threats to collect it.

Don't fall for it.

Demand a debt validation letter.

Someone called in our office today Derrik Watson and was claiming that he works for Ross Warren and Associates and he was trying to get hold of the lady that used to work here in our office. He gave this number for her to call back 855-853-9078. And he told me to tell the person that they would like to speak with her and to call them right away or they will come to the office the next day between the hours of 11am to 3pm. He was even saying to tell her it is better to call them in order to avoid scenes in the office. He gave a case number. And I was trying to read your comments about this and they all sound the same. Is this another scam ?

Just got a call from an unavailable number. I was told to be home the following day to receive documents and to have my I.D. for them. I was given the number 855-596-4666 to call for any questions. When I called the guy that answered didn't have the info I needed and transferred me to a woman who yelled at me. I told her my credit was spotless. She said I owed $10,000+ on and old credit card account from 15 years ago. Threatened to send a 1099C to the IRS and that I would owe them over $30,000 when they tacked on penalties. She threatened me saying they'd take my house!
After looking on line for any Ross Warner & Assoc. I found this site. Whew!! I am relieved that I am not the only one and that this was a SCAM?

If anyone can get a legal address will you please post. I got the same call/voice mail. I want to send them a letter stating my  Fair Credit Rights and stop calling. I am not going to answer or return their calls I have dealt with this before they did the scare tactics and rude comments etc. I look up my credit rights and sent a  certified letter to whatever address I could find for another fraud company stating my legal rights and information they need to send me pertaining to such debt.I  They backed off!! These people are in sad state of affairs to spend their day doing this to people and I will not give them energy by speaking to them. But I will deal with them accordingly!!! Don't pay a single penny!! They buy old debt (if any debt) and attempt to collect on it!!

Ignore the call.  If creditor or debt collector has a legitimate debt that you owe then they must send you documentation of the debt by US mail.  E-mail no good.   Apparently the statute of limitations in Ohio is 15 years for a written contract.  But that doesn't matter, if they don't send you a debt validation then they cannot proceed any further.

They will, however, attempt to scare you into paying them something.  Don't fall for it.

This is a extortion scam operation.  However, all you have to do is google your state and Statue of limitations to get the pages you need.  As Elspeth said, they need to provide debt validation (per the FDCPA).  Know your rights, knowledge is power.

And you should check your credit, if indeed you owed anything, it should show on your credit reports and to who. Your entitled to a free credit report from each once a year.

Per the FDCPA, you should not pay any caller unless they mail proof of debt/proof they can legally collect said debt.  Refusal to mail - do not accept email or fax - this documentation within five days of their first call is a violation of federal law.  Long story, short - if they won't mail written, verifiable proof that you owe them money, you don't pay them.

http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/statuteLimitations.shtml

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Can someone tell me the amount of time a debt collector has to resolve a debt in the state of Ohio. I was contacted by a collector with the number 855-596-4666. The woman I spoke to was rude and threatening and told me that the state of Ohio has a 15 year time period to collect a debt and they would continue to come after me until 2017!

I received a call from 855-596-4666, 5/23/2014.  The caller ID was "Private" and it sounded like a man's voice who left a message that I needed to call back on a civil matter on a property, and represented by Ross Warren & Associates.  THIS IS A SCAM.  WHOEVER YOU ARE, SHAME ON YOU; STOP HARRASSING PEOPLE.  A number search brought me here, and there is no case filed against me in the court system.  It's very annoying.  Hope no one is falling for this nonsense!
