If you pay scammers they will NOT go away - they will sell your name/number to other scammers who will then call stating you owe them money too.  The burden of proof is on the debt collector to prove that someone owes money to them - you shouldn't have paid them.  Please print up this thread and give to your HR Dept and/or manager - you should not be fired for being harassed by scammers!  (In fact, if you were fired, you would have a case for unlawful dismissal.)

You should never pay any caller who refuses to MAIL proof that you owe a debt to them, per the FDCPA.  Refusal to provide this proof is a violation of the FDCPA.  In other words, you've taken the word of your callers just because they're harassing you and your parents.  Report your callers to the FTC, FBI, Dept of Justice and your state's Attorney General.  Please read what Alfalfa posted a few comments above yours.  Link to the FTC below:

They said they dont have that information and that 200 of the 1200 was a locator fee. They have called my work to speak with my manger to say they need protocol as to how to have someone served at their job.They also started calling my elderly parents..How they got that number I dont know...I told them i wasnt paying and they said they would continue calling my parents and my work until I paid them so I started paying them..I dont want my parents called they are in their late 70 and I could lose my job if they continue..I have asked continually for  original loan information.still nothing.If anyone finds anything on this company let me know

I too have recvd unwanted calls from this number.  First there was a locator asking me to pay a debt cost.  I had no idea of what he was talking about.  He gave me a 185xxxxx claim number as well and said call 855-638-3568 to get further info.  Called the 855 # and spoke to a Matthew and Karina Sanche, also received a voicemail about "consider yourself served" but they have NO information whatsoever as to what this collection is for.  They said it's a 3 year debt but have no info.  I consider this a scam....

Tony Walker was the same person that called my boss. Her caller ID phone # was 512-215-3627, so I called it and a message said the number was not taking messages. Could not get a live person. I also called back to 855-638-3568, wanting their address but they would not give it to me. Did finally end up with a PO Box 1844 in Los Angeles.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

This company called my boss stating that there was a formal complaint against me. Called this number and they verified my address and said I was being served papers at work, but only verified my home address. Said I was being sued over a 4 year old debt and fraud. I told them they could no longer call my work.

Yes the same thing  just happened to me here in Salt Lake City. Someone with Galton Tech called me and said there was a claim against me and to call the same 855-638-3568 number for more info. She gave me a bogus claim number too. She wouldn't give me any more info and said she would call back. My husband is an attorney and in order to be served they do need to do serve you paperwork in person. Don't give them any further info and hang up.

Some guy called me and said he had a complaint against me, but would give me no details.  he said I had to call 855-638-3568 to get the detail from a 185XXXX reference number on a misconduct claim.  He said would would call back in an hour.  Must be a scam.  If you are actually getting served with a complaint, they have to "serve" the papers in person, hence a person called a "process-server".
