I called the people I originally got the loan through and they informed me that they had sold my loan to another company I called that other company but they were closed. I left a message for them to return my call. I don't recall the debt collector telling me the name of the company though. The strange thing I also thought of is why are these people coming to me almost exactly one year since I paid the loan in 2013

There are TWO red flags - 1. Pay now & we will lower the amount and
2. Use a prepaid card - same as cash & not traceable.

You could also verify information with the company you originally dealt with.

Did the new caller even mention the name of the company that wanted payment?   855 area code seems to be one of the preferred ones for scammers.

Thank you MJG, they were expecting to receive money from me tomorrow from a prepaid card. But then something seemed fishy the amount they said I owed would be reduced if I agreed to the settlement. So to their surprise I will not load that prepaid card.

SCAM??? YES!!!!!!  If you actually had a summons coming, you would NOT be contacted by phone or email.  You would also have a written summons served by an officer of the court.  If in doubt, contact the company you used for the loan.

I received a call from the number listed, they said I still haven't paid for a loan that I took from a online loan provider in January of 2013. But I did pay the loan they say if I don't pay it that I will be summoned to go to court. Is this a scam???
