It's nothing more than a PHISHING expedition! And it likely is not even Wells Fargo calling, as a supervisor at the company just informed me.

In my case, many of these 855 calls are pretext calls ... they use the ruse (or pretext) of being Wells Fargo in order to gain access to you and your personal information. You may notice that, prior to the 855 call, you get a call from a number &/or person (caller ID has a normal phone # & sometimes the name of a person you don't know) that has the same motivation and is from the same illegit source.

Don't answer - that only confirms for them that your phone # is a working one. Report them to the FCC and to Wells Fargo ... if both of these entities get involved, perhaps some action will be taken! These calls may likely originate from overseas, as sometimes my caller ID has a name that is blatantly misspelled - something a native English speaker would likely have caught. Either that or they simply are illiterate. At any rate, it's best to not answer the phone and, if you decide to call them back, first use *67 to block your caller ID on their end, so they can't ID you!

They wont stop!

Your best protection is Caller ID and dont answer any 800 type numbers (800, 877, 855......) Or even better dont answer any unidentified long distance numbers.

Many of these types of calls ask for an individual by name.   Sometimes this is from a person who previously had your telephone number.    More often it is a fishing trick to get your name when you tell them you arent Wilma.  By mistake you may identify yourself or they may then ask for yours which without to much though you give.  You have just provided more information about your identity which in today's world or scams, cons,  unethical business practices you should protect.

Have your number unlisted and have your name blocked so it doesnt come up on caller ID.   Be careful as to who you give your telephone number to (cetainly not salesmen and other vendors) and take it off your personal checks.

If they continue to call for Wilma, the best suggestion posted on many of these forums is to use a loud whistle.  That meets with various levels of success.

In most cases they wont stop.   That is the experience of many people who post comments on the various Unknown Callers types of forums on the internet.

Most if not all of the telephone companies will not allow you to block 800 numbers.    If you answer dont identify your self by name.   When a real person is on the phone the best defense and most effective is a loud whistle, then hang up.  Is this rude yes,  but they dont seem to care about bothering you.

They never stop, because cold calling produces results even if the success rate is extremely low.    There is always someone who is suckered into these solicitor, telemarketer promotion calls.    They are highly trained to convince you, even more so that the "used car salesman"

Your best protection is dont talk to them!!!

Based on experience good advice is to never consider promotions via telephone, even better stay away from all promotions (since the majority of them are just con's to open up an account with them).   Banks and Credit Card Companies are like investment companies they are always trying to steal customers from other banks and firms by great promotions which turn out to not be so great when the promotion period ends.   Be careful.  Not all banks and credit card companies are ones you want to do business with.   Some of them you have certainly read about on CNN news such as Bank of America, Citi, and others.

The worst kind of promotions are those offered by salesmen when you are purchased items.   These promotions come in various forms from 0% interest ones.   Rarely are all the facts presented by the salesman.   Best advice, say no thank you and use your own credit card.          GE Bank (under multiple names) presents a lot of these promotions and you only find out later your have opened an unwanted credit card with 29.9% interest rates, and a lot of harassment type policies.   It seems GE Corp. no longer has any business ethics and are more concerned with profits than their customers.    GE Bank is also tied into PayPal accounts, so limit the use of your Paypal account and always pay the balance due on time and in full.  From experience if you have a problem with a seller when you used your Paypal account it will be very difficult to have that problem resolved.

Solicitors such as this one (Wells Fargo) never leave messages because they want to talk directly to you.   Dont be conned into their promotions especially ones providced by any solicitor over the phone.   If they ask for you by name which they oftren do, DONT identify yourself, tell them it is the wrong number.

Have Caller ID.    This number doesnt identify who it is.

Other Bank and Credit Card Agencies to avoid are GE Bank, GE Capital, GE Retail Bank,... they are all the same.   Their approach with their promotions is always incomplete or fraudulent.   They are great at harassment as well.    You would think that GE Corp. would have better business ethics,  but they dont.  Today it is always about maximizing profits.

Protect your identity, dont be compulsive about your name where it is not needed, ex. e-mail addresses.   Dont put your telephone number on your checking account.   The bank may not give out personal information but salesman, utilities co's, etc. you get that information add it to a list they sell.   Be reluctant to give out your personal information such as SS#, DOB etc.    The Patriot Act and the IRS may legally require it for banking accounts, investment accounts but everyone else probably doesnt have a legal need to have it.   Credit Card Co.'s are a grey area as to what they are entitled to since they ask for eveything.    Try to stay with very reputable banks only, not all are reputable.   And dont be suckered into promotions many can lead to harassment and more calls from solicitos.

Received a call and they didn't leave a message. So I called them back to hear a message from Wells Fargo stating that they were soliciting  for America Home Shield.
