These scammers called saying they have papers they are filing at the court house and they were just verifying my address.  I don't have an outstanding payday loan, and a "server" doesn't serve papers.  These people are so bogus.  Oh, and they have called every other day all week, and still no server at my door.  I'm reporting them today to the attorney general and FTC.

They keep calling me for child support and trying to send me information for it in the mail. They asked me what address they could send it to but I hung up.

If that's really what she said, she is showing off her misunderstanding of the law for all to see.  Fake debt collectors often brandish psuedo-legal jargon to try to intimidate people and demand a response immediately to prevent you from finding out that what they say is poppycock.

A "subpoena" is not a summons and does not indicate that you are being sued or that you have done anything wrong.  It is merely a document that requires you to appear in court as a witness.

If someone were really after you for any reason, they would serve you with a civil "complaint" or have a "warrant" issued for your arrest.

But you should not presume my post to be legal advice of any kind.  Instead, call up a local attorney, who will probably spend five minutes or so explaining the terminology to you for free.  The Bar Association for your state or locality would probably be happy to give you the same information, and they may be able to send you a brochure or point you to a place on their website with more details.
