I have got at least 50 calls from this number unfortunately you can not block the call as it is not on bells block list, what a pain in the a**, they give you a number to call and a reference number to refer to and say they are calling on behalf of CIBC. I t just so happens I don't deal with this bank and never have! I smell something rotten here! Does FDR have an e-mail address and does anyone have it if so could you post it here so I can e-mail them and stop these damn calls

I kept receiving recorded phone calls from a company identifying themselves as Gatestone Company: http://Gatestoneco.com Tel: 1-760-979?4432. When I called this number back, a recording says "this number is not in service." So the next time they called I stayed on the line and listen to the entire message and got this number 855?834?6018. So I called it. They asked me for my address, (which they supposedly had right in front of them.) Then they asked me for the last four of my Social Security. They "claim" to be at 1000 Northwest St. Ste. 1200 Wilmington, DE 19801. They claim to have "personal information" and then asked for me to identify myself via my address? I have no outstanding debt, never have and they call two to three times per week. My legal rep says this is a scam or an attempt to steal identity. DO NOT Give them any information if you cannot verify nor validate who they say they are. If it were me, this is what I would do. WITHOUT giving them any personal information, tell them to send you a certified return receipt letter (to the address they claim they have on file) stating EXACTLY what they want. Otherwise DO NOT RESPOND and report them IMMEDIATELY to your local scam/ identity theft dept. When enough people get together to do what is right, theses thieves will give up and get a REAL job.

Got msg from this number at least once a day in the last week. Did not mention who they're looking for, only asked to call them back and gave a supposedly file #. I actually called them back a couple of times to see how they intend to scam me but got vmsg each time.

So I added this number to my Ooma personal blacklist and will never hear from them again :-)

I too received many annoying phone calls from FDR. I called CIBC directly and they confirmed that I was not the person they were looking for and she said my name would be taken off the call list. Fingers crossed...

This # called and said they needed my husband to call their office with a claim number. He knows nothing of this, and also we do not have any outstanding bills/debts, so this is not a call I will be returning! The person on the other end sounded male, and of east indian descent. Thick accent, and I had to replay the message about 4 times to even try to make sense of it.

FDR is Financial Debt Recovery. They are not just a collection agency in traditional terms, they buy up groups of old outstanding debts from other companies like retailers or banks, often companies that have gone out of business, or from big companies that can't be bothered chasing small amounts of money owed to them. They buy these "lots" of old accounts for pennies on the dollar, and then relentlessly chase the people who owe the money. Even if they can eventually get someone to pay half of the original debt FDR makes big profit from the account. They begin to charge stupid high interest (30% +) as soon as they acquire the debt, so when they finally get a hold of someone, an old debt of a few hundred dollars is suddenly a few thousand dollars, and they are just hoping either the debtor is dumb enough to pay the whole amount, or gets scared into accepting an unreasonable settlement. The thing to be aware of is that since 2004 in Canada, unsecured debt can only be legally acted on for 2 years! After that time they can't take any real legal action, as long as you don't do anything to "reset the clock" on the debt, such as Confirm that it is your debt, especially in writing, and definitely DO NOT MAKE A PAYMENT. If you solidly confirm it is your debt, in writing or by making a payment, they can then take actual legal action to get full payment. Otherwise, they are just harassing you with the goal of trying to get you to give up and just pay them off to leave you alone.

This caller claims that they are calling on behalf of CIBC.  They also use the number 855-771-6017.   They are very demanding and expects that you call them back.  Since I have never had any business with CIBC, I have never call them back or bother to answer their calls.   I think they are looking for people who owe CIBC money but FDR is blanket calling everyone with the same surname.   It is a form of harassment.  I was tempted to complain to CRTC as my number is on the DO NOT CALL LIST but the complaint registry site states that your number and personal information could be release to the caller.  Why in the world would I want that?  Therefore, I did not file a complaint.  I think the DO NOT CALL LIST is a joke as it does not protect us.  Also, I did a count of my phone calls for a week.  Out of 42 calls that came in, only 6 were from my friends.  All others were spams, advertising, scams etc...  The telephone companies are having a grand old time, making us pay for our phones and providing our numbers to all the scammers and advertisers.   I think we need to change our phone company and demand that they do not list our private numbers for the public to see.  The times have changed since the Fifties.  The telephone companies are a big part of the problem.   They are making us pay for these harassing calls.  If enough people complain to their phone companies and Members of Parliament, maybe we will see more changes in the privacy laws.  We certain need it as it is getting worse in harassments through the telephone.

I've been getting calls from both 855-771-6018 and 855-771-6067, from the same company calling itself FDR, saying they were calling on behalf of CIBC. I Googled the numbers and found horror stories of people being harassed despite telling them they were calling the wrong person. The first call had a mechanical voice that sounded something like Darth Vader except not as clear, so I couldn't even figure out the first name of whoever they were calling, but they had my last name.

After the second call in December, this time from a message from a real person, I called them back and left a message saying I had nothing to do with CIBC and they were calling the wrong person. I've received 2 more calls since then. The last one had a mechanical voice but was much clearer and the first name was definitely not mine.

I finally called CIBC directly today and spoke with Client Service (1-800-465-2255 M-F 9am to 5:30pm Eastern Time). They said the initials sounded like Financial Debt Recovery (FDR). She called them herself while I waited on hold. She confirmed that they were indeed looking for a person of that name, and said my number was being removed from their call list and I shouldn't receive any more calls. Crossing my fingers that will be the case!

Therefore, if you're in a similar situation, being harassed by calls for someone other than yourself, call the company they say they're calling on behalf of and speak with them directly. Good luck!

Just got a message from this number saying to call back with a reference number (263275). They also gave this address:

I owe no debt so this is complete BS. How do we stop these harassing calls?

Is the CIBC suddenly going to go bankrupt for a few delinquent accounts I think not. Heres one way to relieve some stress:
Buy a air horn at the dollar store/ Fax them the middle finger/or any other body part. Sign them up for a gay mailing list/
paint ball all there employees vehicle or any other kind of suitable anarchy.

Tell them that until they send you written validation of the debt, via USPS, you will not deal with them.

If you have a debt, you should pay it, but do not agree to pay anyone just because they tell you over the phone that you "owe" them money.  It is THEIR responsibility to prove that 1) you owe a valid debt, 2) to whom you originally incurred the debt, 3) they have a legal right to collect the debt.  All of this needs to be done in writing via USPS, not over the phone and not via email.  If they cannot (or will not) validate the debt in writing, then there is no debt, or at least not one that they can collect on.

Odds are, if the debt is not valid, nothing will ever show up in your mailbox, since fraudsters and scammers do not want there to be physical evidence of their crime.  If something does show up, then you can check your records and tell if you owe the debt.  If, and only if, you determine that the debt is valid, you should take action to resolve it.

I recieved a call fron FDR ltd, they claimed that I owed money to CIBC, and that they have mailed me letters and have called me. I moved in the last year, and have not recieved ANYTHING from them, until September 17.  I felt funny giving out info, as the caller ID showed Unknown name and number. I gave out the bare minimum for info, and made payment arrangments with a dude named David.  Now some chick keeps calling me from there and when I say hello, and she askes for me, I say speaking, and then she hangs up on me.  So I called her back, and she got very rude with me. said my arrangements weren't gonna work, and they wanted MORE money from me.  I told her NO WAY.  I will not be giving them ANYTHING! I asked her to prove that FDR was legit, and all she said was," we are". She also said "You just have a problem paying back your debt"!

Message that does not tell me who they are trying to contact. Nor do they say who they are trying to collect for. Demanding a call by 9:55 am tomorrow. Don't think so - I know they called me for 3 years for the person who used to have this phone number, I thought I'd finally gotten through their thick skulls but I guess not.

How these scammers wok is they wil call a number and make up a name and say they are calling on behalf of XYZ company for an old debt the plan is to get your to reveal your name because they don't know your name and in order for them to scam you they need your name.  So while you told them NO you have the wrong number that was there and when ou should had just hung up on them! Youdon't own them any explaination jst hung up because once they trick you into the explaination of proving they have the wrong number thats when they con you into giving out your own persnal infor li our name or etc!  DON"T DO IT!
Better yet you see their number o any number yo don't know just don't answer it just let it go to answering machine! Once someone left you a message you can ere who it is andifits them just delete the message and if you havecall bloak add that number to the block call list! Because they keep changing their phone number just remeber that too! They are professional crimminials who get away with scamming people and tryin to steal your identity! Also if you ad ever had any old debts in the past look up what your statue of limiations is for your area!  Don't stress over it because thattheir tatc to suck you in to their scam!

Yes FDR is a scam company because they are trying to collect on something to which they are not legally entitled to by law!  It doesn't matter if they claimed they had purchased the so-called old debt in question which 9times out of 10 isn't a debt that even exisited its just them trying to scam money out of victims who don't know any better.  Statue of Limiations look it up what it is for your area!  If you ever had an old debt this Statue of Limitations clearly states everything you need to know!  In Ontario the Statute of Limiations clearly states if the Orginial holder of the account to which you had an agreement with didn't take you to court within the first TWO years from the moment the debt was not paid on then no one can claim or get anything from you legally!  This company preys on people who don't know their RIGHTS!  Don't answer their calls don't awknowledge them just block them out!  They have no LEGAL GROUNDS to get anything from you!  They can NOT take you to court either so their threats are just that empty threats that go no where!  This company as well as three other companies out there are all trying to claim on the exact same old debt so think about that why believe any of them because how can three other companies be claiming they are calling on behalf of such and such for such old debt in question? It is not possible for them all to be claiming they bought that from the orginial account holder!  Even if one did they have NO LEGAL GROUNDS TO TAKE ANY ACTION AGAINST YOU!  This is how you know it's a scam! Don't ever give them any personal information either don't say your name either it's none of their business and how they obtained your number illegally proves they are Crimminals!   FDR is a SCAM and they try to trick and extort bully threats of legal actions to which they can't even do to try intemidate you into being scared enough to give them something which is a Tatic that all these crimminal scammers do!  Legit companies don't! Don't worry about them just ignore them!

I bought a Digitone Call Blocker 10 days ago for my business and I'm watching all of the crap calls go bye-bye. Now I'm down to about one dumb-a** call a day. Even then, all I have to do is push one button and it can never bug me again. Eventually, it should be down to a few calls a week........or maybe less.  I probably save an hour or 2 a day not answering stupid scams, sales calls, etc.  I can even be proactive and program it to block calls before they try to call me.  Now, I want one for my home and fax machine but I don't have the extra $$$ yet.
