My kid downloaded something for mine craft game .... My web browsers said call 855 303-2184
Immediately and they will fix it. I called and they acted like tech support and wanted to connect to my computer. I got very suspicious and hung up. The called me back from 855 827-2728
They are scam artists acting like tech support to free up your web browser. I fix it all my self by doing a system restore to 1 week earlier.

I got a call from 855-827-2728 and was told it was AOL and someone has been trying to open my AOL account. He instructed me to turn on my computer and they would fix it for me. I also was told someone in California had already opened my email. Not falling for this I told him I was unable to go to the computer and he said he would call back. Checked on here and find it is a SCAM.

Received a call from 855-827-2728 stating he was from Bell South and wanted to know if I'd had problems with my email Tuesday. Advised him I had not. He then stated that someone from California had tried to compromise my email, but he called to help me fix. When he started telling me to go to my Internet Explorer, I told him I would call Bell South. When I called the number back, it was technical support. All of Bell South's toll free start with 866, not 855. I DID NOT FALL FOR HIS SCAM.

I received a message from someone named John Anthony stating and I'm contacting you in regards to an order that was submitted to my office this morning and I'd like you to be advised that I've been retained to be-signed(?) for a certified notice of intent to appear in court for pending litigation. This is regarding claim some place against you. Now at this point you do have one opportunity to contact mediation firm that's handling your claim and they can be reached at 8558

I got a call from a man named Tom and he said that i owed e pay day loan money and i know that i took out no such loan and that my brother Jimmy also owed money and that i need to pay them 500 dollars or i would be arrested and took to court and i told them that i didnt have a bank account any more he insisted that i had written them a bad check so i went to my bank to talk to them about this and found out that my account had been paid off in early 2010 and was told that i am about the fifth wood forest customer that has came in with the same complaint and that it was in fact a scam the bank manager has reported it to their fraud and loss prevention department so i still have not seen any papers or have been served as of yet its a scam

I received a call from them for the past 3 days. I also got calls from them last year and was stupid enough to pay them 500. I was able to put a stop on it but then had to close my account to make sure that it was not tapped into. It is a scam, and they use this tactic to scare people into paying a debt that they do not owe. I have previously reported them. I am trying to report them again, but the company name is not found when I google it. The previous company doing this was Upstate Manangement.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

OMG! I got a similar call yesterday morning and he said that they were coming out to my house or my job for me to sign some legal papers and I'm being sued and have to go to court. He said that I had 3 charges against me something about check fraud or I could settle it for $300 something dollars. He said it would be in my best interest to go ahead and pay that because if I went to court I was going to end up paying thousands. I was told that it is a scam and it is against the law for collection agencies to threaten you like that.
