This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

I got a call from a Laura brown today from this number saying that I would go to jail if I didn't pay money in the next 24 hrs. They even called my job and my boyfriend. After I looked this number up online I then definitely knew it was a scam. When they called again I told them this is a fraud company and that I was notifying the police they hung up on me. These people need to be stopped.

I noticed the number on work caller id and they called like minutes apart, and finally left a message.  They also called home leaving more than 3 messages a day for the last 2 days.  I finally answered the call at work and told them my attorney is the state attorney and reported them.  Please go to your local state attorney's webpage and make a report.  They actually investigate and respond to you.

Man these guys are good.  Same thing here.  repeat call.  I tried to ask questions they get mad, so I threated police and FBI on them, and they hang up.  Now I have to add fraud alerts, what a pain.  they need to trace that number and let me loose on them, I will get them. And if they are in this country I will ship there sorry butts back to the middle east.

I received a phone call from these idiots today at work and frankly it scared the living life out of me.
These people need to be stopped.  I'm so happy I found this web site to see what scammers they are and how they have been harassing others as well.
Unfortunately I applied for a small online loan and it kept networking and networking until before I knew it, my checking account was in trouble.

This is total crap...absolute, total crap. I have dealt with these individuals (I assume that they are all related to one another business-wise) for nearly a year now. They started last year, it continued for several months...quit for a few...and now has started up again about a month ago or so. They call my employer many, many times a day...and blow my cell phone up all day long. There are roughly 10 numbers I know of that they call me from. I notified the FTC, the FBI, IC3, and my local police dept. They all said that there isn't a ton that can be done, because they use drop phones that can't be traced and that large amounts of money usually have to be involved before they take these things seriously.

They all suggested that we tell these individuals that they have been reported and that we know it's a scam. I've been doing that and they have been hanging up on me. I reported it to the local police just yesterday and the guy had the misfortune of calling my cell phone while the officer was sitting in front of me. The officer spoke to him, let him know who he was speaking to...and the man hung up on him. They had the audacity to call my employer number right back and ask for me. I immediately put the officer on the line and he hung up on him right away again.

Total bogus bs. Don't let them scare you.

I agree.  The best thing you can do is laugh at the guy.  If you talk calmly, he talks over you.  If you hang up, he calls back.  But if you just laugh at him for like 15 seconds, he's got nothing.  I also started to ask him about the weather, his favorite sports teams, etc.  You have to frustrate him more than he frustrates you.

They called me today too...left three messages on my work phone and called my personal phone six times. The guy was mean, rude, told me I owed them 20k and will be arrested because I had payday loans and that I am breaking federal banking laws by paying for them through my bank account, that the money must be wired to them.  He went crazy when I asked for verification of who he is, who he works for and how to spell his name (thick accent). He said his name was Joseph Garner and was an attorney for the district of California and that his bar number was 101694. I have since filed a complaint with the FBI, put fraud alert on my ssn (he had my ssn and driver's license #) and will be putting alert on my bank account. Scary stuff. What a jerk he was. I said so the millions of Americans who take out any form of payday loan are all going to be arrested? He said I just need to worry about myself and the trouble I am in.  He refused to send me anything so I had verification.  He eventually hung up on me and left me with the threat that I'd be arrested tomorrow and that my pay will be garnished.

This number has called me several times. They claim that I owe money because I borrowed from a pay day cash advance and that I never paid it back. I never followed through with the loan application and I never received any money. I called my bank and they confirmed that there has been no activity in my account with any money being transferred or withdrawn. I called ROBERT back at that number and told him that there was no money ever put in my account and I owed nothing. He told me to stop playing and get this debt paid. I  played along, he told me to go to Wal-mart and send a money Gram to a man by the name of Joshua Algarin in Philadelphia, PA. 19124 in the amount of $315 dollars. He said to call him back with the 8 digit reference number. I called him back with a bogus number and he checked it and got mad. I told him that I heard this was all a scam. He got really mad. I said that I would pay him with a debit card. He was all for that until I told him to fax me the docket number to this so called case. He told me to enjoy going to jail and hung up. I am thoroughly enjoying calling that number every few minutes and asking to speak to Robert. I tell them a different name every time I call and when he answers I just laugh at him. So funny!!!!

I called the FBI.

After BEING harassed by them, I decided TO harass them.  After several profanity laden calls, I asked "Why are you stealing peoples money?"

Reply: "To collapse the financial markets of America and blow it up again, motherfu#*er", and then hung up the phone....

Sandra Moore keeps calling for one of our employees. She can barely speak English and calls back to back to back. I told her that the officers already picked up the employee and she got mad. You hang up and she calls right back. I told her this is a scam and she said it is not. I pointed out her American name and laughed. She demanded that I give the employee's personal number. I then told her that she was fired so to find the number herself. She told me to FAX a termination letter and when I requested the number she said that she wasn't going to give it to me.

Keeps calling my cell and my place of employment. I ignore the calls because they have an foreign accent with an American name which makes think b***s***.  Also pretending to be an officer of the law is against the law.  Then at the end of the message they say have a good day and god bless.  I have filed bankruptcy because of the current housing situation and I'm divorced.  These peolple need to get a life and stop buying discharged debts.  We all have money problems and don't need them to get a cent.  My co-workers had some fun with him and he got upset, started the threaten them.  They turned it around and called them back asking of for me which was funny.  It is a total scam and they keep ghosting their numbers from all over the united states.

This guy is a scammer.  He has called me repeatedly even after I told him not too.  Says he is with the Bureau of Crime Investigation and that I took out an online pay loan and am being prosecuted for it.  Today I told him I would call the real FBI if he did not stop calling me, he got smart with me and said "they are waiting for you".
