Scam: The caller called my mother asking to speak with my adult son.  The caller said that my son was due in court tomorrow.  They gave her a phony court case number 1354378.  Being in law enforcement for 39 years i can give the following tip off.  Court cases always begin with the year and a dash  ie; 13- xxxxxx. or 2013-xxxxx NO ONE gets a call from the court, opposition attorney, defendant, claimant or police. talking to someone with court pending is witness tampering,  that's why it's not done. The only call you may get is from an attorney you hired as a reminder.  You didn't hire an attorney, no phone calls, period.  Lastly take no calls from anyone threatening action.  It is required that written notification be given of pending civil action. No papers served on you = scam. NEVER GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION THAT CONTAINS NUMBERS. BASICALLY, HANG UP.  For your cell phone download " black list" it will stop all second calls to that phone.

The caller identified herself as Lea Thomas. She had a "case number", and if I didn't call 855-849-2352 RIGHT NOW they were going to continue with action "without my knowledge". Total scam. A Google search says this is not a real number. She doesn't state who she represents or who the 855 number belongs to. No information of any value. I just ignore it.

I got a phone call from my mom saying that I needed to call this number cause they had called her, even had a case # I called them and they said that I missed a court date and asked what day I was free this week, I asked them why I had court, he said "oh you don't even know why you had court? Hold on let me pull that up for you." He tells me that a bank is sueing me for $4000 and that I was served with papers at my old address 47 days ago. I informed him that I was not served with any papers to be able to fix it willingly he asked me if I was being honest and asked if me or my mom had signed any papers when I told him no he told me he would see what he could do for me, he got back on the phone and told me that a sheriff would come by and bring me served papers again but the problem was that I would have to pay $900 immediately or go to court and have 60 days to pay $4,700 and if I could not do it I would get my liscense taken and have 6 months to pay it all. He asked me if mh family or I had the money when I told him no he said that I could call him back at his extension # 230 and that his name was John Stover. Before that I was not given any name not even from what company they were calling for/from. After being stressed amd scared my family was suspicious and looked it up to find out sure enough they were a scam then things started to fall into place that weren't right like the fact that the lady who had called my mom said that she could not call me cause she had already called my mom, and when you miss a court date the court house does not kindly call you to reschedule its all up to you and they do everything by mail. Scam!!!

Threatening litigation against me. Never said why. Gave 2 different fake case numbers and 2 different fake names. On Tuesday (when he left a voicemail) he was "Wes Cody" today (when I answered) he was "Les Scott". He said he'd need to verify someone "would be on the premises" of an address I never lived at. I told him I never lived there in my life and that after a brief internet search, I was very aware this was a scam. I also let him know, I knew enough about the law to know a process server would never contact a defendant by phone. He became enraged after that, I did not listen to his rantings but simply told him to never contact me or my family again, as we are not going to fall for it.

Got a call from my grandma in law n she told me that she was getting calls from some person needing to get court papers out to me n that they had tried twice n had failed both times n this was the third n final time n that if I did not get back to them by the end of the day they would send the papers back to the court n they would go forward without my participation... When I called them back later I got a man named David Prescott n said that they had two failed attempts to get the court papers out to me n this was the third n final attempt when I said I had never received n e thing from them he then told me that if I did not settle the debt of 1100.00 from a debt in 2005 that they would take me to court n make me pay the amount of 3,600.00 never did he mention sending me the documents they have been trying so hard to send me just wanted me to settle with them immediately without any paperwork that I could even look at.... That doesn't seem right n I would never pay something that I don't have a paper trail on... Come to find out they have already done this to me once before n said that they are sending a police officer over to my work to come get me if I didn't pay the amount she wanted by the next day and that she was an attorney and if I did not pay by then she would sue me for triple the amount and garnish 25.% of my wages and when I finally got a letter from her her title was administrator.... They tell u lies n use scare tactics to make u pay them and we need to stand up for ourselves n put a stop to these scam artists so they know it will not be tolerated

these people called my sister and said they were the County Clerk's Office and they were looking for my husband as they have tried to serve him papers twice and they can't locate him. .  You can't hide from the government, they know where you are.  I thought this to be questionable so I researched and found nothing
but this board and the complaints.  I also found the following link.

left a case number.  Today they called and said this was my final chance to call them back before they
send out an arrest warrant.

Received a call from this number.  I was told that I was supposed to be in court a couple of weeks ago and that they had tried several time to serve me.  I was told that the suit would be im my local jurisdiction. He also told me that they would have my DL suspended and that a warrant would be issued for me.   I told the guy that I would verify with the District and County courts tomorrow and if I find out that no case had been filed that I would take them to court for violation of FDCPA.   Before the call ended I told him that I had recored the call and every threat he made on my cell phone.  He got mad that I did not tell him that the call was being recorded and hung up on me.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

They can't do a blooming thing.  It is stupid for someone to make such a threat.   What they are doing amounts to extortion and I wouldn't give an inch on something that I didn't owe.   They'd just have to give it their best shot in court or shut up..

This person said he was a county processor and that I had a court date for this Thursday.  Gave me a case and this phone number to call to find out what it's about and to possibly cancel it too.  After checking into my city's court website, it was not a valid case number. After googling the phone number he gave me, I see that this was a threat and a scam.  This country is going down the drain!!

Asset Recovery.  Called and left message saying "John" needed to call back as soon as possible or "going to jail." I called back and said "There is no such person at this phone."  They asked if I knew "John" and said "Yes, that's my husbands ex-wife's husband."  "Do you know how to contact them?"  "NO! Please remove my number."

A debt collector threatening people with jail?  That's uncalled for.  We do not have debtors prison in the United States!

Looking at the whole thread, I was about to write this off as another South Asian faker, but this report of Asset Recovery Group changes things. Also known as "ARG" and "Asset Systems", HQ in Oregon. The threats and lies you're all hearing are illegal and give you cause to sue the rogue debt collector for relief at little or no cost.

} Said they mailed a letter to me 47 days before the call

Sure they did. If you never got it, assume this is a lie ... violation. This is a ruse to make you think it's too late to dispute their claim ... violation.

} said that I was also due in court a few days earlier

Yeah, amazing how your local court failed to notify you and you were never served that so-called "complaint" .. violation.

} I have to pay $3900 to them or they put a Lien

"Pay us now to stop the suit" is an empty threat and another FDCPA violation.

} have me arrested if I don't pay.

Consumer debt in America is a *CIVIL MATTER* and not criminal! Your local police do not moonlight as debt collector helpers! Serious violation!

.  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .
Whether you are called a debtor or some collector thinks you can flush one out, you have rights and options. Many are simple to exercise if you only learn how. You are granted control of how you are contacted, the right to dispute debt claims, and the means to sue violators at low cost. The FTC and the CFPB can start you on your homework. See also if your state laws grant additional or stronger rights.

These people have called me on two different occasions looking for someone else with similar last name.  They called both my home phone and my cell number.  First time it was a lady saying she was a process server.  This time they say they have a complaint file against this person.  All times they called the number was blocked or restricted from my Caller ID.  This is the number they want a call back to.  These types of calls make me want to throw all my phones into a lake.  LEAVE ME ALONE!

My mother in law called and told us that she had a message on her phone from a litigation lawyer by the name of Lucy Ford and she was working on a claim filled against my fiancé and needed to confirm that she had his current information. So we called the number she left and the guy who answered the phone had no clue what we were talking about. Then I did some more research and found there is no litigation lawyer by the name of Lucy Ford. And even if there was if she was a legit lawyer she would not have called him like that. So if anyone calls you like this my advice would be to tell them you don't know the person they are asking for...even if you are the person.
