just got a call from these people, did not answer it.  They left a message that I needed to verify my address.  I did not call them back, because if they were an actual debt collector they would already have my address.  I have been having other problems with scam here recently and the attorney general of texas is working on it.  These people will call relatives and scare them as well.  People have to be smarter than them because it is clear that there is more of them in existance and no matter what the FTC does or attorney general they are not going to go away.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Recieved a call stating that I had a debt tied to my social number.  Asked for the information to be delivered to me via certified mail and was told no that they could email it to me.  I advised I wasn't giving them my email address and if they were legit they could send it to the address that had for me on file.  Did not accept the debt as being mine, by the way if you do, it releases the statue of limitations and starts all over.  Good luck.

Received numerous calls from Isabella, Tina and/or Scott of Brown, Brewer and Assoc. stating that we owed money on an unpaid loan from 3 yrs ago.......Don't know what they are talking about!  Never took out a loan with CASH NET USA.  They have my address and ss# and they keep threatening legal action - affidavits, summons, court.  I told them to send me a copy of the contract I supposedly signed and any and all papers with regard to this "loan".  They said they could not send me anything because they don't have them, only the court has them. Really???  What a joke!!

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. File a complaint with the State Attorney General and BBB. I really do not think they are legit at all. They're just good at scaring people. I always ask for someone's address and website along with postal mail. they didn't want to postal mail, only email so I knew something was up. also they arent that professional. If they were the paralegal and lawyers they say they are they would be a bit more professional and at least be listed. There is no record of Andrew Wiseman in NY as an attorney. He's the head guy...apparently.

I asked them to email me papers and they did but dates ate wrong and their website is amateur at best. The address they give of 210 walnut in lockport is the same building where a Brown
& Brewer medical supply company is located. I checked the NY Business site.and their name is not registered in the database. All that came up is the med supply company. I also talked to cash net. they said since they sold the debt they aren't getting anything out of the deal any longer. This company claims they ate working for.cash net and will fwd payments back to them. These people are getting smarter but not smart enough.

Got a call from Steven Davis, Brewer Brown & Associates, for a payday loan taken out in 08 for CASHNET.  Asked him if he sent me anything then he asked for my email address.  Tired of being scammed for past debt.   Supposedly the address is 210 Walnut Street, 14094.  No valid website and calling from 855-851-8424 also.

Hey, I received a call from someone stating her name was Isabella, a legal assistant with Brown Brewer and Associates. She left a message on my phone basically stating that they had legel papers with my name and SS that they needed to serve me and needed me to call them back at 855-851-8425 and refer to a case number. I never called back but kept the message. I've been scamed before. They would not even send me a letter stating I paid.

The statue of limitations varies by state. Not all  states are the same. The average statue of limitations are around 6 years but can be as many as 10 years.

Got a call from 855-851-8425.  Some guy named Shawn Scott says he's a paralegal from Brown Brewer & Associates.  Can't find anything on this "firm."  Tried to sound all official saying that there is an affidavit and gave me some file number from a Cashnet USA loan taken out over four years ago.  I told him I filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy and he even confirmed it.  Then tried to give me "legal advice" even after he knew I was represented by an attorney.  I told the dumbass that he should know not to give legal advice to someone who is already has an attorney, being a "paralegal" and all.  I hung up on him before he tried to scare me into paying him.  By the way, legally, debt collection agencies cannot collect on a debt that is over four years old....that's what I was told

My goodness,  one must take their hats off to these guys.  They must have a real think tank going for them.
The trick is, don't pay anything that comes over the phone.  Everything must come in the mail,  and be verifiable and fully validated.  Nobody goes to jail for demanding proof, validation,  and demand it in writing.   I actually get a kick out of these kinds of calls.  So far I have been unable to keep anyone on the line for more than about 10 seconds.  They then insult my mother and hang up.  Life is good.
