These people are either a debt collector for past due debts, or are a scam. In either case, do not let them scare you into paying anything over the phone. If you never received a letter from them in the mail showing specifically how they are due money, hang up on them.
Make them prove (through a signed contract with your original signature) you owe them. If you never heard of them, YOU DO NOT OWE THEM!
DO NOT PAY OVER THE PHONE - DO NOT SEND A CHECK EITHER. make them prove everything.
AND - Do not be afraid of their fake "process servers". If they are impersonating an official, they can do jail time. Get the name of the court and any reference/docket number, then CALL THAT COURTHOUSE TO VERIFY. I bet there is no such case at all.

I recieved a call yesterday from a process server stating that they had tried to serve me and i was not home. When i asked him whatthis was about he claimed to have no idea because the documents were sealed. He also claimed he was calling from a neighbooring county in my state, but when i googled his number it was a Georgia #.....I live in PA. He intterupted me the whole time especially when i asked him questions. He then gave me the 855 # and a refernce #. So i called and it was Empire filing. I spoke with a William Roth who also was rude and intterupted me.He said that he was not a collector, just another server..but then said i could settle my debt for 648 dollars but if i was summoned the amount would be 2000. He then told me that he would look through Harrisburg office....after holding about a minute he returned saying i still have time to pay because nothing has been filed. SO if nothing was filed why are they going to summons me and if Empire is not a collector why did they want me to pay them. AND why would a process server in Georgia call me in Pennsylvania and then have me call someone in California.....Definatly sounds like a scam.
