1st of all zellers  went out of business. and there  credit card company and hbc was sold to capital one years ago. going on 2 or 2.5  years now. I know I use to work for them. so I don't know who these people think they r exspecially when we r on do not call list and we have no cards with company in over 2 years. all pd for. also it is illegal for them to harass u too.  they get pd commission or could be big scam.

they call, never leave message. now this time I answer, they wanted hubby. refused to give info, tthen wanting his work number and cell number I said nope there is none.  I stated he has an estate number, she stated again asking for number, then she acted like she found something on another screen and said never mind and hung up.  after seeing all this about the bay, I use to work forb them. his card was pd full years ago.  so who knows. I called back because she spoke so fast and I thought she stated norc.  same girl answered. how weird is that if iti a collection co you usually get diff reps, nope same one. SCAM

I got a voice mail from this number saying my name and that I am to call their legal department back immediately at this number. I panicked a little and called the number thinking that it may of been a lawyers office in regards to money owed. They told me I owed HBC Zellers $2000 which no way in hell I owe that much. They told me they tried to send me a package in the mail outlining that I will be taken to court and that for some reason it got sent back to their office yet when I called the lady verified my address and what they had was correct. They also asked me if I've ever been sued before which I haven't. They told me I will need to govern myself accordingly. Maybe one of their tactics? When I spoke with them they told me if I do not contact their office by 9 am tomorrow they will proceed with suing me.

Did they ever end up taking further action?

I just got a call from the 855-855-1944. Put her on speaker cause i was feeding my son cereal.. She asked for some girl and I asked the rep what her name was. She got upset and had an attitude with me cause I asked her to repeat her name since she cut out.. I hung up on her. Dont need an attitude when someone has the wrong person in the first place and especially when you are looking for help on who you are looking for. Not nice at all. The woman who called, her name was Laura.. what a snot..!!!

I just changed my number 2 months ago and here we go again.

Thank you for posting. I benn getting calls all week too and was about to provide payment. I did.exactly what you have done. Called all those numbers and ended up trying to get in touch with preferred credit. Since offices are closed I was unable to speak with anyone. But now at least I know I don't need to call them and provide payment. Thank you!

I dont appreciate getting these type of calls  especially when for someone else whom i dont know and when i told the person they were very nasty with me something has to be done about such calls

Got a phone call today march 28 prerecorded massage saying to call back this number 1-855-855-1944 saying to keep my credit in good standing. I returned the call and this woman answered NRC she said i owe HBC Zellers $806.00 i said that,s  not right i never opened a account with HBC. Then i called HBC they have nothing in file then i called equifax we have nothing in are file. Then i called transunion nothing in there files to. THATS NOT RIGHT i did not like that!

All very stressful, we the public are being harassed by collection agencies that aren't following the rules. For all the time wasted, the naps that I've been awakened from on my day off, the concern that it might be identity theft, and so must investigate, is all really unfair, unwarranted (in most cases), and a big waste of time for all of us.  

In my case the name of the person demanded isn't anyone I know. Only the surname(last) is my own. I agree with the previous, that listed numbers are called in hopes of finding the individual. But in the meantime, Call call call.  

Mine started last year, and they finally got me on the phone, I explained that there is now "firstname" here, never was. I've never had debt owing, and that my credit was always in excellent shape.  I pleaded that they stop, pull my phone number off the list, and to tell everyone in her/his office to tell the other agents. I was told they would, and it stopped for about 4 months. Then it started up again. I've unplugged the landline. Will be calling Bell for a disconnect - reason being too many telemarketers,and nasty unwarranted collection practices.  

Here's two ideas:   Call your MP, to pass stricter laws or fines.
or better yet, get all those who've had enough, to band together and launch a class action suit against the collection agency for damages due to stress, pain, and loss of time.

This has got to stop.

I received a call from this company today, on our work phone.  The automated voice said that we had failed to complete our part of a legal agreement and to call the number back to avoid legal action.  I called back, mostly out of curiosity, as they left no company name or referenced any invoice numbers.  When I phoned, a lady answered saying "good morning, NRC".

I said, I am just phoning because I got a message from this number, however it did not say who to call. She asked if the call was to the number where I was calling from, I said yes.  She asked if there was any other number, I said no (it's not possible, this is the office phone line). And she said that our number must have been dialed by mistake.

do not pay them. I do not owe any money or have any overdue accounts but the message mentions an outstanding payment/breach of my account. they are telemarketers.

I have been receiving phone calls from this number for over 4 months now.  At first they were polite and seemed to want to help, but when I started asking for information on the account that I owe money on they got very rude and ignorant!  It was an account with a company that I had never heard of before by the way, some Rainbow Group Lenders?  One "gentleman" that I talked to told me straight out that sending me information on my account would not only be a waste of my time, but also of his time.  He eventually sent me an email with an attachment that I was unable to open on 5 different devices, there were missing components or something like that.  I have talked to 3 different people who are all very rude, one of which claimed to be the owner or NRC, and every time I talk to one of them I repeat my mailing address and ask for the information to be sent.  It has been 4 months and I still haven't received any mail from them.

Legally, Collection companies have to send you all information on any account you have with them, even if you ask for it via Canada Post.  You can also ask that they stop phoning and all future contact must be via mail, and they must comply to that.  There are all sorts of laws in place that collection companies must adhere to, and you can easily look them up on your provincial government websites.  I advise everyone who gets a call from this number to look into the laws!!

I got call from this guy every day for six months, said that I have to call it back otherwise will face the law suit. But they cannot even get my name right. They claim to be NRC.
The National Recovery Center is a US based company and has nothing to do with this NRC.
You can try NRC phone to see whether it is them who called you. Their number is 1-800-935-1139.

we have received daily calls from them this week. I am guessing they simply got our surname  from Canada 411 and hubby's first initial, and they chose to interpret the N as being the name Nikisha (!?) for someone who might live here and owe money to someone. Clearly a scam, as hubby's name is NOT Nikisha, hahaha

Got many calls from this number. I answered the call today and it was for a person named George Bradford, nobody has ever lived at my address with that name. Called them back and it was a company called NRC or something of that manner. The lady took my phone number and said they would stop calling. It was very easy and simple to reverse.

I have been getting calls from here for 2 years.  After serching and lots of phone calls and reading the notes above, I have discovered this.....
Common theme in these notes was HBC.  I had an HBC card 18 years ago.  I have a perfect credit rating now and if any money is or was owed to them, I don't know and was never notified by them ever.  So I called HBC finance and they have no record of me owing money to THEM.  However, the nice lady who I spoke with said if there was money owing to this account, HBC would have SOLD it to a company named GE Capital (1-800-552-5239). She also told me there is a statue of limitations on collecting this money depending on the province arount 6 or 7 years.  Then it is sold. I called GE Capital, They wouldn't give me any info unless I gave SIN #, full name and date of birth. All they would tell me is this account was SOLD (again) to a place called Prefered Credit, also known as OCL Financial.  (1-866-372-4868).  I called this number and asked if this was NRC (National Recovery- the ignorant beligerent jerks who have called me for 2 years) She said "no" but she wanted to know my last name.  I asked why she would want my last name and she said so she could transfer my call.   I said "so you ARE NRC" then all hell broke loose.  She got very nasty with me and I asked her why she is being so nasty and she told me that I "don't listen, that she has told me 3 times not the same company", but she can transfer my call to them.!!!! She claims that NRC works for them (Prefered Credit)  I think and suspect, same people.
So......NRC can't provide any paperwork on this money owing because they don't have any.  These accounts are closed and sold by HBC. (kind of non-existant now) They are now owned by Preffered Credit OR NRC. But first would have went through GE Capital.  That is who HBC sold everything to and GE Capital sold it to these other non-educated/can't get a job/create my own company persons.  When money is paid to them (NRC), THEY keep the money and nothing goes back to HBC.  That is why the don't leave messages like "you owe HBC or Zellers money, because they are not representing them.  They collect the money for themselves and keep it because they own the debit now.  So paying them will NOT CHANGE anything on your credit rating because the stat of limit is over and they are written off/sold.  I am assuming that people getting these calls may have had an HBC or Zellers (same people) I would say at least 10 years ago.  If we could just get them to stop calling and leaving nasty messages.  Also, they have been threatening me for 2 years, if they could DO something wouldn't they have done it by now???? Also beware, this company could get on this web site and write things like "you should pay or you will get a bad credit rating"

Have been receiving many calls from this company NRC , from different 800 numbers. Key phrases like "govern yourself accordingly" , "our lawyers going to court this week", automated calls. My favorite is the one from the British sounding lady. After a little research, found out they bought years old debts,written off by other agencies, like Rogers, magazine subscriptions, etc. ALL ARE NUISSANCE CALLS. remember, nobody  goes to small claims court for less than $400.

Thus number keep on calling my daughter who is a full time student and not even owning a credit card. What pissed me off is that they never choose the time and keep on calling

I have been receiving these calls on my cell phone for about 2 years - tried calling a couple of times to tell them that they had the wrong person (they leave messages calling me by some other name) but they were extraordinarily rude to the point that i was nearly in tears.  I get calls and messages still every day or every other day, without fail :(

I have received countless calls from this number with more or less the same spiel as others.  I KNOW  I do not have any unpaid debts and since they give no details about who they are, I ignore them and don't pick up the phone.  Fortunately I do not have an answering machine on that number.  Today the message changed and became quite threatening.  I am tired of receiving these calls...is there any govt entity that I can call to complain??  Please let me know if there is - thanks.

I have been receiving calls from this number for a couple of months....They never identified themselves; just say, "Do to your total disregard for your financial obligations...blah blah blah...."...........I've listened to the recording but never called back figuring it was bogus because I HAVE NO DEBTS, except for some personal!!!...finally found this site today and seems it is bogus. another BS caller.

I keep getting pre recorded messages that I need to call back due to an.unpaid debt. I talked to them and gave a name associated to my cell. Told them that the number now belongs to me and to stop harassing me. Said they'd take number off their lists but they keep calling. Next one I'm complaining to the crtc.

This morning I received 4 calls within 4 minutes from this 855-855-1944 number.
No messages were left on my voicemail.
I saw on here that other people had said it was maybe for HBC.
I called HBC and they have NO record of me ever owing an outstanding balance. Probably because I never had a HBC credit card.
I called TransUnion Canada to review my credit report and to see if I had any outstanding debts to anyone, and after they researched my name and info, they said that I do not owe anything to anyone. And they show no record of me EVER having an HBC credit card.
He went through my entire credit history with me and said I owe nothing.
The rep at TransUnion said this sounds like a scam from NRC.
They said that if I truly owed any sort of outstanding balance, they would be able to see it, no matter how old it might be.
