It is illegal for a telemarketer to call you if you have asked not to be called.
Calling times are restricted to hours between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Telemarketers must tell you it's a sales call, the name of the seller, and what they are selling before they make their pitch. If it's a prize promotion, they must tell you that no purchase or payment is necessary to enter or win.
It's illegal for telemarketers to misrepresent any information; any facts about their goods or services, earnings potential, profitability, risk, or liquidity of an investment, or the nature of a prize in a prize-promotion scheme.
Before you pay, telemarketers must tell you the total cost of the goods and any restrictions on getting or using them; or that a sale is final or non-refundable. In a prize promotion, they must tell you the odds of winning, that no purchase or payment is necessary to win, and any restrictions or conditions of receiving the prize.
It's illegal for a telemarketer to withdraw money from your checking account without your express, verifiable authorization.
Telemarketers cannot lie to get you to pay, no matter what method of payment you use.
You do not have to pay for credit repair, recovery room, or advance-fee loan/credit services until these services have been delivered.
It's illegal to help deceptive telemarketers if you know--or consciously avoid knowing--that they are breaking the law. Your state law enforcement officers now have the power to prosecute fraudulent telemarketers who operate across state lines.
Rules are in effect nationwide to combat telemarketing fraud. The rules empower individuals to prevent telemarketing calls and telemarketing fraud. Report violations to the Virginia Attorney General's Office.

§ 59.1-510. Definitions.
As used in this chapter: "Telephone solicitation call" means any telephone call made to any natural person's residence in the Commonwealth for the purpose of offering or advertising any property, goods or services for sale, lease, license or investment, including offering or advertising an extension of credit. "Telephone solicitation call" shall not include a telephone call made to any person: (i) with that person's prior express invitation or permission or (ii) with whom the person on whose behalf the telephone call is being made has an established business relationship that has not been terminated by either party. "Telephone solicitor" means any person who makes, or causes another person to make, a telephone solicitation call. (2001, cc. 528, 553.)

§ 59.1-511. Calling time restrictions.
No telephone solicitor shall initiate, or cause to be initiated, a telephone solicitation call to a natural person's residence at any time other than between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. local time at the called person's location, unless the telephone solicitor has obtained the prior consent of the called person. (2001, cc. 528, 553.)

These A***oles called me at 8AM!!! There is a law that TELEMARKETERS are NOT allowed to make calls BEFORE 10AM on the EAST COAST OF THE U.S. C'mon people Stop this non-sense.

Caller id said "International"  we don't answer calls from numbers we do not know...we are do not all registry ... I wish people would respect our wishes.

This phone # keeps calling my home phone at 718-892-4616 numerious  times & does not leave messages I think its an ESCO Co. trying to get me to sign up with them for cheaper electric rates!!!!

Am on the do not call list.   Call me regarding my electric service.  I tell them I do not want to be called.   Keep getting these types of calls but cannot tell if it's from the same company.   Cannot get through when you try to call them back.   It just rings once and goes dead.

I googled this number, and it said it is to be a toll free number, as yet unassigned.  It also said, that if you pick up, you, rather that the company making the call, will be charged.  Did anyone hear that?  I do not answer, but my answering machine does.  I called my carrier, Verizon, and they said I have to wait to get my next bill.  They don't know what will happen, nor how it would be handled until it happens.

A***oles won't stop calling.  They know enough to hang up if I answer the phone (when I forget to check who is calling), but I simply cannot get them to stop.

If you want people to take the company you're working for seriously, you could start by not writing as though you're a 13 year-old sending text messages.  Proper spelling and grammer count.

It's a scam nonetheless.  Con Ed and Natgrid want to get out of the billing business.  But when you have a problem with your bill, do you want to deal with an established utility...or some fly-by-night being run by a guy in his underwear working out of his mother's basement?

people....if your on HEAP and switch your gas bill you will not get your HEAP payment so be very careful before you switch check everything out also if they ask for your ssn or debit card then hang up

I am on a do not call list, I have told this number 855-857-1688 repeatedly not to call me, but they do not stop. This is one of those bogus electric groups who buy the elect wholesale from coned and sell it to others, I can buy my own elect and if I want to use an ESCO I am more than capable than some xcon to make my own choice.

PEOPLE...be very careful before you switch your con ed or heat bill,,,if you receive HEAP from what i was told HEAP does not deposit money for your heat into this companys account so that means if you get 750.00 a year then you will lose your 750.00 a year

it is a scam as are all esco's. You get conned into paying higher prices and locked in. My husband had fallen for one a few years ago and we were paying WAY higher rates than directly from ConEd and had to pay a fee to terminate. One company even illegally impersonated me and signed me up. They had a fake phone call with some hispanic lady pretending to be me! These scammers are outrageous and I reported the one company to everyone locally and the state. These people who comment that it isn't a scam are liers who probably work for the scum esco.

mary yes it is a scam!  cause when they call they said that national grid sent me a letter according to their records... i say really.. so why when u call u asked whos in charge of the gas bill and not the person on the bill.. they have no idea who they call they just try to sucker people into it!

2nd i living in NYC HOUSING i dont pay for electricity or GAS so their who call is a SCAM!

3rd i am the do not call list so their breaking the law right there.. ive also in the past told this company to put me on their do not call list.. and any sister companies they have... and do not sell or hand over my info with any other company... and guess what they just called me again today

mpower nergy is the third party supplier to conedison. therefore, mpower energy will b the supplier  of ur utilities company. who will b helping u to reduce ur rate on ur coned.. or on natinal grid bill by suppliying u the elcetric n gas through ur con-ed & national grid lines.
if u choose this program Con-ed will continue to provide the same reliable service and monthly bill that you currently receive from them.
The only change you will experience will be the new rate on your [electricity/gas] bill.
The only difference will be that your electricity & gas will be supplied by MPOWER energy through con-ed & national grid lines
if u dont belive.... juz grab ur con-ed bill
on the seond of the bill....juz below the supplier rate......on the fourth paragraph i.e total supply cost .....u may see a small printed boz....in dat its cleraly mentioned abut power your way program,. under this program there r no. of escos company ....who supply electric n gas ..... u can chck it on the website . even mpower energy they r also the esco companies....... thats all .....

I'm on do not call

I received a call from this number today. They asked for my dad's name who is on most of bills, etc. When I said he wasn't here they elaborated by saying they needed to talk to whoever is in charge of the electric account. They said they would try back 10am tomorrow morning but I told them that wouldn't work either. I asked several times if there was a number to call instead and all I got was 877-286 before they hung up. Obviously some sort of scam but I just couldn't get the full number, darn.
