Thank you all for posting.  I've been getting these calls and received one this morning from Julie saying her boss Dennis Ballas has a meeting with my boss for today at 12:30pm.  My boss is out of the office and when I told her this, she hung up without leaving a message.  Now I know why.  She wouldn't give me a number or a name of the company.

Mike Miller is calling repeatedly with various unlikely stories. He acts annoyed and rude when no one believes that our boss is expecting his call. These guys will make anything up. Even we we've asked him to stop, this hasn't stopped him from trying to call every week. Wish someone would shut this place down.

"Joe Mcneil" actually came to our office. No appointment, nothing. He came asking to speak with my boss. He is a tall caucasian heavy set man with a beard and glasses. He wouldn't reveal much about himself. One of our office assistants told him she was not available and asked if he had any information to leave, he said no. He was looking at his phone constantly and would not make eye contact. ANd then when he left he stayed in his car for some time and then his office called again. He must of told them to call us.

Mike Miller gave our receptionist the schpeel about "boarding a plane" and "we have a meeting with the owner". This guy is a typical used car salesman. Says he is with the US Conference of Mayors and can help our business in the way of stimulus money and grants, and just needs 20 minutes in person. Doesn't want to tie you up on the phone. Non-profit org and they only take "donations" if you are satisfied with their service. He was kind enough to give me his phone number at 855-700-0240. When I called back, they answered "Partner America". When I asked to talk to Mike, I was conveniently disconnected. I called back and told the receptionist to tell Mike and anyone else from "Partner America" to never call us or come to our company. They are a little too shady and the sales call is way to aggressive -- it just REEKS of a scam.

It appears that Julie Walsh has been promoted to regional director, lol.  Just had a call from "Christine Hill" on behalf of Julie Walsh to confirm a meeting I have with her.  I told her I have not meeting scheduled and that I don't like scammers calling me while I'm trying to get actual work done.  She couldn't even tell me who our mayor is, lol.  What BS.

Also got a call from Julie Walsh today claiming that I had an appointment with her boss, Dennis Ballas, which was untrue.  She claimed she was from the U.S. Conference of Mayor's but when I called back the number, 855-700-0240, they answer with American Management Services.

Received same type of call from Hersey Gilliam on behlaf of Dennis Ballas.  He left 855-700-0240 as the number and said he would call back.

Same deal-young girl called name Dominic Mitchell for Joe McNeil- came in on Private line -855-876-5560 -asked for the owner- when I asked who the business was & what it pertained to-she stated that the owner knew what it was about- I continued to ask questions & put her on hold & asked the owner if they knew McNeil -& of course they didnt-when I picked up the line the girl had hung up.

Met with Joe McNeill, nice person.  Asked some generic questions about my company, nothing they couldn't get from the website.  US Conference of Mayors set something up with a nonprofit called Partner American, which hired American Management Services (for profit company) to meet with a list of small businesses that had somehow gotten onto the USCM's list of good corporate citizens and see if they needed any help in whatever areas the company can think of.  

I expect there is some point when American Management Services offers to help in some way if the company identifies an area that they need help with (marketing, accounting, hiring, etc.), which probably costs money.  I'm guessing here, we didn't need any help and Mr. McNeill never tried any hard sell.  He was on the way out the door in about 20 minutes or so.

I think this is an attempt by the mayors involved with the US Conference of Mayors to help local small businesses.  To bad the initial contact really feels like a scam.

Got a call from Julie Walsh trying to establish a meeting the following day between Joe McNeil of the US Conference of Mayors and a 25% equity owner in our company. I declined the meeting and hung up after speaking with her several minutes. Wondering what this scam could possibly be - told her I would look up "Joe McNeil", who as I thought, does not actually exist in this context.

Called the US Conference of Mayors, worked my way up the chain a bit.  They say it is a legitimate call from a partner of theirs.  

Still like to know if anyone out there has gone though with the meeting.

Got the call from Julie to meet with Joe McNeil 10 minutes ago.  They had set this up with me once before about 6 months ago, then cancelled.  I set the meeting up for Monday even though I figured it was a scam of some kind.  Call it morbid curiosity.  Might even be fun.

Anyone actually go though with the meeting?  What's the scam?

My boss got a call from Julie to set up an appointment with Dennis Ballas from the US Conference of Mayors for the next day.  He didn't know what it was for but made appointment anyway. "After finding this web site,  I tried to call the number Julie left (855/876-5560) to cancel but just got a fast busy signal.  The next day, Dennis Ballas showed up for the appointment.  When I said we didn't have time to meet with him he argued and said he had talked to my boss.  I asked what it was about and he said it was for business improvements and he was from the US Conference of Mayors but did not have a business card or other identification so I sent him on his way.

Got a call from a man saying is name was Mike Miller.  He said he was about to board a plane and was told to contact my boss.  When told she was not in the office, he wanted her cell number.  I, of course, refused to give it to him.  He got annoyed with that.  I asked for a return number and he told me that he was only doing what his instructions are and I was going to get in trouble for interferring.  I refused again.  He gave me this 8558765560 number.  I came across these post!  Thanks!!

I just received a call from "Caller ID Blocked" and the gentleman said his name was Mike Miller from Washington DC and asked to speak with my boss, using his full name, because he was flying up and wanted to talk with him first. I informed him he wasn't in the office today and I didn't have any such meeting on his calendar and would he like his voicemail. He then asked for my boss' cell phone number. I asked again where he was calling from and he just repeated himself (as if talking slower to me would somehow make me give him what he wanted) and said he was coming to Newtown, confirming that this was a bogus call as we haven't been in Newtown for almost 2 years. So I informed him that if he gave me his number I would have my boss return his call.

Julie Walsh from Joe McNeil's office called to confirm my boss's appointment with them tomorrow. We had no such meeting scheduled and no one knew what they were talking about it. Don't know if it is a scam or a cold call, but judging from other's experience it doesn't look promising.

Julie Walsh must be on a roll - got the same call, stating the same thing.  Mark Carlson with the Mayors Economic Stimulas wants to have a meeting......

Just received the same call from Julie Walsh - from Dennis Ballas' office confirming the meeting for tomorrow morning at 10:30am. Luckily for me, too, my boss was in a meeting and I told her we would call her back.  I googled it and found your posts.  THANK YOU!!!  You saved me from looking like an idiot.

Just got a call from a Julie Walsh for my boss (Did not get the name right this always alerts us) confirming a appointment with Joe McNeil on Monday at 1:30 my boss does not have. Be aware of this scam...

Got a message from a guy named "Mo" and he said that he was in charge of sales and marketing for the Commonwealth of Virginia. He want to talk to me about providing him "services". Based on what I see here, he wants to sell me something. Not going to call him back.

Received a call from Julie Walsh 855-876-5560, calling on behalf of Tara Schuler's office, "State Director for Mayor's Economic Stimulus Initiative". She got past the operator claiming she was calling to confirm my boss' DOCTOR's appointment for the next day.
Obviously, there was no appointment, which I confirmed with my boss (he looked at me like I was crazy!).
She said Tara had missed her meeting with my boss in January, and wanted to come in to discuss resources the mayor had allocated for the business. Yeah right, ok.

Same as JJ701 - Dennis Ballas. Mayor's Economic stimulus initiative. Confirming a Meeting scheduled for tomorrow, owner has no idea, google has no hits. Office does not exist in NYC.

received a call from Julie Walsh, she was calling on behalf of Dennis Ballas who she said was the regional director from the mayors office. She went on to tell me that my boss had a meeting with Dennis for the following day but Dennis couldnt make it and asked if he could reschedule for the following wed instead. I am usually very good detecting these types of calls but she was good....fortunate for me my boss was on another call so all I did was take a message.. my boss looked at me like I was crazy when I reiterated ..... nice try!!

received call also from Tom Wesley from US Conference of Mayors looking to help. Set up appointment, never showed, also stating there was set aside resourses for small companies

call from Christopher Troy from the US Conference of Mayors looking to help employers who were affected by the downturn.  Wants to come out and discuss with a owner (that owns at least 25%+) what programs we might qualify for. No charge for the visit

message left with receptionist saying he was following up to a request from either myself or wife. Left name of Mike Deegan with the US Conference of Mayors yet in when i went to their website and put in his name nothing came up. Just another scheme to get money.

Said his name was Doug Colman and that he had been playing phone tag with my employer (he used his first name) for four days. When I asked him what company he was from he told me he works for himself and that (my boss's name) would know that. I asked for a return phone number and he gave this one.
