Also when you get a scam letter just remember that most of the time they are putting down a fake name. And just because you Facebook search someone doesn't mean the first person with that name that pops up is the culprit. I am well aware of all this going around the internet about some airlines scam letter, and yes I am aware that my name is signed on there. But there are hundreds of other people in this world with my exact name and just because I live in a vacation destination and have a degree in hospitality ( which for me is actually wedding and event planning) doesn't mean I'm a scam artist. I have gotten nasty messages from quite a few people and I'm really sick of finding this s*** online. It's probably just some people from different countries using fake names. Nobody should be dumb enough to fall for those types of scams anyways.

Well, I did it, I called: STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!   Almost fell for it but "googled" the "company" as he was setting an appt. date. Smooth talker - but not a happy camper when I cancelled and told him I just found the scam online. Hung up on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    Yup. No fool like an internet fool. Now they have my phone number ...dang. Thanks, everyone for taking the time. I hope this adds to the knowledge base.

I just received my notice in today's mail. Letter dated May 21, 2014, and using my middle initial. Marriott Hotels. Retail value of $1,398.00 for 2 tickets. Fly a US Airlines and gives US Air, Southwest, Jet Blue. A stamp signature of Carla Streetman, Guest Services Manager. If they do not hear from me within 10 days tickets will be awarded to an alternate. My last flying trip was in September. In the last 2 months we have received at least 5 different scamming . letters. Was not surprised about this one. If it is too good to be true...BEWARE it's a SCAM.

I just got this letter as well as many posters stating I have won a free round trip on a US airline with two nights at Marriott Hotel totaling $1398.00. Carla Streetman wants me to call her at 855-879-8217. It's obviously a scam. I'm not falling for it. But those of you who say this has to do with Target....give me a break. No wonder you were targeted. :)

I got my letter today the 27th of May and it read the same but I don't shop at Target, haven't stayed at the Marriott and
I haven't flown in over twenty years. I figured it was a scam too but decided to search the number and I see l'm not the only one that got this. My advice... throw it out and don't reply.

I got the same letter as everyone else.  Mine is dated May 16, 2014, "signed by Carla Streetman, must reply by May 26th, 2014.  They used an invalid name for me.  Thought about calling them just to listen to their speel and waste their time, but like someone said here they will just sell or use my phone number for more scams so I will just shred it.  I have a Target card but haven't used it for nearly a year.  I think that they have bought a list somewhere that hasn't been validated (incorrect middle initial).  It's nothing from TurboTax or anything official cause name is incorrect.  Just let them keep it that way and hopefully any creditor will know the difference.  Glad to find this forum.

Anything scammy that arrives by US mail should be turned over to the local post office with a request that the postal inspectors look into it.   It looks like mail fraud to me.   Can't hurt and might help.

I got the same letter today (same phone number 1-855-879-8217) sign by Carla Streetman.
Last week I had two more scams. Someone "IRS Agent Kevin Jones" phone number 202-241-6854 (speaking with noticeable East Indian Accent) saying that I owe money the IRS and the local police is on its way to arrest me. The other phone scam (818-309-1383) is an automated message very authentic that your Credit Card Account has been frozen. To unfreeze it please enter the 16 digits code on the card followed by the pin number. I almost fell for that one but hung up immediately and cancelled my CC.

My wife got the same offers in the mail -- two of them, in fact, the past two days.
One's dated May 12, 2014, the other May 14, 2014.
Same wording as the other recent letters cited above, with the same toll-free number (1-855-879-8217), with different Claim Numbers on each... same wording on back (Certain Restrictions Apply... they are major suppliers.).
On both of them, it states that, "Because previous attempts to reach you have been unsuccessful, this correspondence will serve as your final notification."
Yeah, right -- we'll see about that!!!
BTW, we reside in the North Denver (CO) suburbs.
Good luck to all who are also "lucky" to receive this offer of harassment and associated crap!!!

I found an apple tree in the woods last summer and ate four apples from it. They were the only thing I ate between breakfast and dinner. I really wish people would stop using this expression, it is wrong.

My husband received the same letter, seems we all have different claim numbers, which is probably the scammers file number on us.  He doesn't have a Target card, I do. He flew Southwest within the past 6 months, he did not stay at the Marriott.  They did use his middle name.  His bank Debit card had two charges from some video company totaling more then $400, then another for $9.95.

Got my letter today from Ms. Streetman. Dated May 12th, 2014. Clearly a scam.  Anytime someone offers you something for nothing, use caution .. it's probably a scam.

Googled the 855-879-8217 phone number and apparently these folks have been doing this for a while, and their scam has taken-on several forms. Also, checked the USPS Tampa, FL Permit #78. It has only been used for these types of scam letters, as there have been numerous reports from folks all over the USA about these scammers.

I presume that they can get away with this due to the disclaimer which is printed on the back-side of the letter ... "Certain Restrictions Apply. Call For Details. Taxes & registration fees and/or processing fees are the responsibility of the recipient. This promotion is not sponsored by or affiliated with Marriott or any other third party referenced in this promotion but they are major suppliers."

I will use this letter as a teaching lesson for my kids to educate them about shady businesses.

I just received my fake free tickets and what bothers me from the beginning is that its in an envelope that looks like a credit bureau or a tax lien or something vital and has "Personal and Confidential" marked on the front. The official looking letter states:
- You have qualified for an award of (2) Roundtrip airline tickets departing from any International airline in the U.S. and I will also receive (2) nights fee at any Marriott Hotel and the combined value: $1398.00
- Previous attempts to reach me have been unsuccessful and that I need to contact them immediately (within 10 days) or my tickets will be awarded to an alternative.
To call them at : 1-855-879-8217

Bottom code in bold: 2RK0506D (whatever that means)
-I don't stay at the Marriott hotel so I don't think that's the link, however I shop at Target monthly.

I got the letter yesterday, and need to respond by 5/19.  Same info, Carla Streetmean, Guest Services Manager, signed it.  I don't have a Target card, and I haven't travelled in over a year.  The name and address used is on one of my credit cards and one of my utility accounts.  I have never used that address at a hoted (due to a weird zip code issue, the town I live in is not the town generated by an address search).  So, I don't blame either Target or Marriott.  Thanks to all of you, I won't waste time calling the number (855-879-8217).

Well, I was really disappointed to find out these "free tickets and hotel stay" were just a scam!! LOL. Wow these folks are getting good. They have fixed their grammar and capitalization errors, they changed US Airlines to just US Air, however isn't Jet Blue one word? And All this free just for stopping buy a Wholesale Travel Club to listen to their great ideas for my money. Then walk out free of charge with a great 3 day 2 night vacation on them!! Well, we have found that USPS is selling the list of folks who have P.O. Boxes. Yep, went to my PO Box with my full name. I never use my full name, and several other folks getting their mail also got this wonderful offer too. They'll go broke giving us all this "free deal". Offer number 2DA0508D, dated May 8th 2014, out of Silverdale Washington. Carla Streetman from Guest Services, thank you but I'll just keep my money and save for my own vacation.

I also called them and they said that I have either traveled in the last 18 months meaning by air, cruise, hotel, or car rental. I haven't. They went on to say that a local travel agency is putting on this promo and we would have to listen to a 90 minute travel cost saving seminar when there but the BIG THING is, I have to be married or co-habituating with my significant other with the SAME address on our drivers licenses. Nada!

Opened the notice 15 minutes ago.  Appears to be from a "standard" mailing list.  We are all on standard mailing lists.  Shotgun approach to prospecting.  Called the number 855-879-8217.  Got a pleasant pitch from Larry - who was reading off a script after matching my offer code (at the bottom) with my first name.  He says I can pick my vouchers up after listing to a 2 hour presentation (video and verbal) at Global Holidays Travel in Albany, NY.  This is a franchised travel provider who gets a bunch of money up front for providing lousy and expensive travel arrangements.  Just google the name.  Larry obviously works in a boiler-room where they match callers to mail promotions.  The old "win some crap" promotion that has been used to sell timeshares for years.  He did not ask for any info or money or credit card numbers.  Harmless but annoying.  Good luck.
