This very thing has been happening to me since 2011...
They stop for awhile....then all of the sudden I get a slurry of calls. They are 800, 855, and as close as my local area code - which is frightening. The local area code numbers - when I try to call back the recording says it is a non-working number.
It is disconcerting....however, I value these sites. Thank you.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

? filed under: Press Release

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

This company called our business 27 times from 3:45 pm to 4:30 pm on Monday, April 28, 2014 asking for personal information of an employee.  They did have the ss # which bothered us.  Being of foreign descent she acted as though she did not understand us. When advised to stop  calling our business, the lady Jane Cooper became very rude, nasty, and said she would keep our business lines tied up until she got what information she needed.  That is when she continued to redial our business numbers. She was threatening to have the employee arrested.  We continued to hang up when we say the number.  How can businesses prevent this kind of harassment?

These people of Indian descent called my work telling me they were calling regarding a legal matter to do with a payday loan!  They had the last 4 of my ss I asked them not to call me to work. But they kept calling,  my supervisor got the call & told her it was a legal matter involving our company. My supervisor them to stop calling my work number if it was a personal issue. She told them if it was a legal matter involving the company she could transfer them to our companies attorneys, they were very rude & hung up. They called back a few times later in the afternoon.  They threatened to have me arrested & talked very rude! The guys name was George Taylor or at least that's what he said but you couldn't understand them! These people need to be stopped before someone gets fired because of them.

Also if you ever took ok a pay day loan it is probably one of those companys that gave the number to the foregin dudes and or they have hired them as collectors. However; people do loans over the net and others get the information and claim to be them as well so.... just be careful what info you put out on the internet and stay away from pay day loans

first off police dont arrest you for owing money they cant the most that could be done is you will be sued for the debt and these forms of harrasment need to be reported to the attorney general number. they are trying to intimidate and scare people and it is wrong. if you owe a legit debt they will be happy to provide the name of lender the amount and the address if they are attys they will have a bar number and they will be happy to give you that as well. If you tell them they cant call you at work they cant. this is a scam an if it was a true collection agency they would not curse you out My girlfriend had one calland say they wish she would get ran over by a train. i had someone else tell me they threatned to blow up his house. So, these people need reported
