I just got another one of these.  The same person calls from a host of phone numbers all over the United States and Canada.  It's definitely a fraud attempt of some kind.  I just wanted to make you all aware of something I learned recently from the secret service.  Fraudulent "companies" are now calling, confirming your identity or address and recording you saying "yes,"  then they are shipping bogus merchandise and invoicing  you, and they have an edited tape of you saying "yes" to something they never asked until they mixed the tape, basically an agreement to pay for whatever it is they shipped you.  I don't know whether this guy is canvassing for the fraudsters that do that, or maybe this is something else entirely -- but everyone should make a habit of never saying "yes" or "I agree" into the telephone of someone you don't recognize, because you never know when your own recorded words might be used against you.

Get a call from this number on a regular basis. It says it's a New Jersey number but like other people said it's a man with an Indian voice with a lot of noise in the background. He always asks for someone who doesn't work here anymore and when I tell him that and ask if I can take a message for the current owner he hangs up on me.

This exact thing happened to me just now, on my work phone number.  I am going to the credit bureau website right now to put a fraud watch on my credit...

I just received a call from an Indian man - He just said my full name as in a question.  I said yes.  He immediately hung up.  I suspect id theft or fraud.  I called the number back it was a magic jack number.   I suggest never to answer unidentified or numbers that you do not recognized.  If it is that important they will leave you a message.   I'm a bit worried now.

Got a call on company phone by the foreign accent guy, He asked for me by name and I said what do you want.  He said I'm from UPS and then hung up.   Considering what others have experienced I guess I got lucky.  But rest assured we won't be answering that number again. Good Luck Ya'll.  

Call from Vineland New Jersey on my cell. Male voice, no accent, asked for me but mispronounced my name.
Caller: Is this ..........?
Me: "This is she"
Caller: " Hiiiiiiii"
Me:" Who is this"
Caller: silence
Me: "Identify yourself"
Caller: "It's meeeeeeee" singsong voice-creepy

Just received a call on my direct dial asking for my boss by name.  I wouldn't put him through.  Indian guy with a heavy accent.  I asked to help him.  He said he was a manager at Citibank and needed to talk to my boss.  My boss does not have a Citibank account.  He demanded voice mail. I wouldn't transfer so he hung up.

Called again today, looking for someone who isn't at this location (and who conducts his legit business over his cell phone).
"I'm sorry, he isn't at this location, but I can take a message."
"What location is he at?"
"He's at his other office, but that's a direct line that I cannot give out. I can take a message, though."
"I don't need a direct number, just his number."
"His number IS a direct number. Can I take a message."
"Is it his home or something."
"Something like that. Can I take a message?"
"Sure. Tell him---click."

Cute.

I know they are just trying to fish information and/or wear ya down do you'll cave, but I've been a gatekeeper for a LONG time. I know every trick in the book.

Just received a call on my job from a man with an accent confirming my first and last name and then immediately hung up. He stated his name was Mike to our receptionist.

Back to back to back to back calls from this number and, also, 646-434-5429. Usual guff: asking for a non-existent employee.

They won't stop calling.

I have a name, its not Hun.

The person they are calling for doesn't work at this location, and when people call here for him from what is CLEARLY a boiler room in India, I hang up on them during transfer.

This guy called back 7 different times.

I told him (because most receptionists are practiced liars when we have to put scammers off day in and day out) that if the line went dead upon transfer, then he must be on the other line, and that can happen with transfers, since they didn't call a correct number for him.

He asked me what the correct number for him was, and I simply told him, "Those he has legit business with have his office line, if not the correct main facility number."

its been 15 minutes without a call, so I assume he isn't planning on calling back

I received a call from a Tom from phone # 856-204-0652 and asking for someone with my exact name and he was stating that he was calling from Citibank.  When I answered 'yes sir'  he hung up the call.  When I called back it was Majik Jack phone number.

The FBI should looking into this scams... the man, with a heavy accent represented himself as a Citibank person and this is criminal as he was obviously not calling from Citibank but from Magic Jack.

I just had the same thing happen to me. Asked for me by my full name, I said yes, and he hung up.

had someone confirm my name and hang up.  don't like it at all.  scary stuff to me.  Rude as well.

I got the same thing, has anything happened? They called my work.

I received a call from 856-204-0652 at my work, they asked if it was me and I said yes and they hung up. Sounded like it was being recorded..I hope this isn't theft.

Continuous calling

Called already 10 times this week. Asked if it was direct line. i said yes they hung up.

Received a call this morning from a man with a heavy Indian accent who said he was from UPS and that had a package for me in Florida.  He verified my name and phone number but asked me to verify my work address.  Dummy me gave it to him.  He hung up afterwards.  I did call back and it said Magic Jack.

Guy with foreign accent called for one of our consultants. I told him, "He is not at this location, but if you leave a message, I'll have him call you back."

He asked again to confirm the phone number. Smells fishy, so I don't give it to him, I just repeat the last sentence.

He replied in a really snotty voice, "Why won't you just give me the phone number?"

Now I know he's POS scammer.

Me: What is this regarding?
Him: I'm from United Parcel Services, and we need to make a delivery, but we have duplicate numbers on file.
Me: List those numbers for me.
Him: [He does.]
Me: Who is the shipper?
Him: Ohio State University.
Me: What address did you mail the package to?

He hangs up. Hopping mad, I dial back.

"The Magic Jack Customer you dialed cannot take your call."

S'what I thought.

im thinking all these numbers are linked. but please could someone tell me how to stop the calls? i black listed the number on my cell phone but now he keeps calling my job which happens to be a family which my papa owns and my papa and dad get on my a** because they think i owe money until i keep proving to them its a scam or whatever. smh im really tired of it.

call from that number,  did not answer call, no message was left.

someone claiming to be from Bank of America and called to verify the company phone number

Had a man using this number call for one of staff members three times this week.  First time said he was from UPS and had a package for her, third time said he was a doctor and wanted to speak to her before hanging up.  We are moving to block the number.

This number keeps calling my employer asking for people who do not work here.  They are very rude, and ask intrusive questions.  When I asked who they were calling from, he replied OSU Medical Center.  The area code is from Jersey.

They called and started to speak and then hung up.  Another WACKO to add to the block list.  

I've been barraged with calls on my office line (I work at a university in Canada) for several business days now. Upwards of 7+ times a day from 856-204-0652, but also 815-695-7849, 646-434-5429 and a 206 area code (didn't jot down the rest of the # in time). Mostly from the 856 number, however.

I now leave my line on call forward, as this has surpassed merely annoying. I had contacted our IT/Telecommunications department, but there's no way for them to block any of these numbers. And of course these spammers/fraudsters simply can make it appear that they're calling from a different number regardless.

I'm up to 7 calls from this # today, at my work number. I'm no longer even bothering to pick up (I was leaving the receiver on my desk, not saying anything, till he hung up). How fun! (Sarcasm)

Just an update to say that yes, this number has called for a fifth time so far today, though I didn't pick up. So "do not ever call this number again" is meaningless to them.

A man with a heavily accented voice has called my work number four times this morning, asking for various people. The fourth time I became quite rude with him, asked him for his name (didn't provide it), company name (claimed he was calling from the University of Something, didn't get it--BTW, I work at a university), didn't provide a manager name. When I told him I was sick and tired of receiving calls and that I had work to do and stop calling this number (I had given him our university switchboard #), he hung up.

It remains to be seen whether he, or someone else from the same number, calls back a fifth time today.
