I just got a call from 856-437-1499 on my cell phone at about 3:30 PM today. I usually don't answer calls where the number isn't familiar, but this time I THOUGHT I knew the number (and it also said "NJ" below it), so I answered. A woman was on the line-- she spoke perfect English (no accent) and asked if she could speak to either "male first name" or "female first name" "**last name**". One of the names was MY name, but the other was NOT and I don't know who that person is is (its not anyone I would know or a family member), so right away I got suspicious and regretting that I'd picked up the call, realizing it wasn't who I thought it was.

I did not respond with any positive answer to either of the names she mentioned, and instead asked what this was about. She said that it was a "personal matter" so could not tell me unless I was one of the people she'd named. At that point I thought this call sounds like a phishing scam and just hung up. She did not call back.

It was the 2 name thing that got me suspicious, because if the call was for me, they wouldn't have mentioned the other first name. I don't know what they were calling for, and really don't care. If its THAT important they will send me a letter in the mail.

PCR has been playing this game for a while.  They will seek to collect debt two and three times IN SPITE of having documentation in front of them indicating the debt has been paid.

In the case which I just got off the phone with PCR, the intelligent state of NJ fails to update their records for change of status of employers.

Don't trust the information that PCR has.

The phone call originates from SKYPE - it's bogus - it's fraud sounds like it's coming from India. The person calling couldn't pronounce my name I couldn't understand much of what he was saying he threatened me physical harm when I refused to give out my social security number - he said he had it infront of him.  When and if you try to call back you get a recording but that is only because the call is rerouted from SKYPE and making it look as if it's coming from a place called Premier.  Best bet, write the number down, leave it near your phone and when it shows up on ID don't answer it then block it.

Called for two peoples names who did not live at the number.   The last name sounded similar, so I think they're fishing for people.   Very unprofessional.

You are absolutely incorrect. Pioneer Credit Recovery is in fact contracted by the State of New Jersey Division of Taxation to resolve tax issues. You may receive calls for personal income tax debt & delinquency as well as business tax debt/delinquency. As for individuals claiming to have no knowledge of  their tax liability with the State, the State has contacted or attempted to contact you through correspondence. The case is not turned over to PCR until after 60-90 days of no response from the taxpayer. A letter is then sent out during the contact cycle and the taxpayer will have 30 days from the date of the letter to resolve the issue. After that, the demand cycle begins with the sending of a certified letter. The taxpayer then has 90 days to resolve the issue before the case is sent to the Superior Court of New Jersey and a Certificate of Debt is issued. After 20 days from the date of the Certificate of Debt issuance, the case will be then sent to Levy and bank accounts can be frozen, assets seized, and your business padlocked.

This Certificate of Debt has the same force as a docketed judgement. So continue to not take it seriously and see what happens. What sort of scam is run that asks you to pay your TAXES?

If you receive a call from PCR and you are certain that you have no outstanding tax issue then cooperate. Send the necessary documentation. Most of the time, you're receiving calls because you've closed your business but failed to end your Tax Eligibilities (Sales & Use, GIT-ER, CBT, etc) and these open eligibilities generate delinquencies because the State has no tax return for what appears to be an operating company.

I am 19 and received a call from this number saying that "Paul Reed" was contacting my father for "impersonal business matters".  He asked for my fathers number and clearly I wouldn't give it to them.  He urged how important the matter was so I asked what the matter was specifically and how he got my number, not my fathers, since the message was so urgent.  He then told me they had a number of "tools" to research numbers, so I asked if they were legal tools.  He didn't find it as funny as I did but then told me he was collecting something.  I say scam scam scam

I received a call today from a person identifying herself as Danisha Miller.  She sked to speak with one of the partners at our CPA Firm.  Sometimes we get calls like this on behalf of our clients. She didn't want to leave any information with me, just to leave a message on the partners voicemail.  Now that I know it's a junk call, she will not be speaking with anyone but me in the future.

Received a missed call from this number and my husband returned the call. They said they were looking for me and gave his ex-wife's cell phione number as a reference. They said they were a collection agency for the NJ Dept. of Taxation. We owe no back tax, so I called back and they said they could not give me any info unless I gave them my social security number which I obviously was not going to do. Total scam... I filed a complaint with the FCC.

A woman called for my wife, who is on sick leave.  She mentioned the name of one of the companies by wife is an officer of and said she must speak to her urgently.  I said why did she have to call when my wife was sick, couldn't someone else deal with it?  No, only my wife and it couldn't wait, had to be done immediately.  She sounded really pi$$ed that my wife was at the doctor's.  She simply had to speak with her immediately, nobody else would do.  I said "What would you do if she was dead?" and got no reply.  Eventually I told her to go away and she said she'd call back.

I got screamed at by my wife for "being rude" to someone wfrom here company.  Going to love telling her she's wrong yet again.

Called asking if I was a officer of XYZ company. I said no. He then said he was working for the State of NJ collecting back taxes. He then asked if I ever was an officer of XYZ company and I said I don't discuss matters like this over the phone. He then said I told you who i was and who I was representing. I said that doesn't mean anything. He abruptly hung up.

Repeated calls. They leave no message. As this is a cell phone, I'm not picking up and using my minutes. I've never lived/worked in New Jersey so either they have or wrong number or this is a scam. Would like to figure out how to make them stop calling though.

Just got a call from a professional, pleasant sounding woman who spoke perfect English and just said "Susan L.....?"  She pronounced my last name wrong (it's an easy name) so I corrected her, then waited for her to tell me what she was calling about.   She thanked me and hung up.

My credit is excellent and I owe no back taxes.

I had not read Rain's info before I wrote my other note.  We too got a "late tax notice" from a collection agency.  I am beginning to put it all together.  My husband had already sent the payment.  Said he wasn't going to send it to any collection agency but sent it to the state where it was due.

I got a call from these people. I don't trust them. They said I owed interest from a late filed sales tax...which IS true..but they called a week later after I submitted the late filing on line. The state deducted the amount from my account and normally THE STATE sends you the late fee, interest and penalties..not these people. This woman wanted me to give her my CC number or bank acct. number...I refused, of course. It said PCR on my caller ID. I know the state does have Pioneer collections contracted, but still...I told her to send me something in the mail. What I got really made me suspicious. I received one piece of paper with some amount I owe, tax ID number and my business name. The paper did not have their business name on it, any contact name or phone number nor where to send the payment to....just some calculations with my information on it...very unprofessional looking. I think the state has a data leak somewhere..or maybe my PC. If she calls back again wanting my CC number or bank account I will hang up.

The GM of our bank got a call from this #. A rep by the name of Ms. Davis said she got the GM's name from another party (she had the wrong first name by the way) and said due to the Privacy Law Act she could not tell me what the purpose of the call was. the only thing she could tell me was that she was calling from Pioneer w/regards to a company matter.  She left the following # to call back: 888-459-9515 x 20602.

Calls from this number are from a collection agency (Pioneer) that is contracted to collect tax for the State of NJ.  I will post a link to show the page where the contracts can be located.  This collection agency also has other contracts for other states.
