These creeps starting calling yesterday.   8;03am.   There's a short delay in someone speaking which is your first clue this is a telemarketer or collections person to get the tape recorder going.    They're calling about a debt from 1992.  This debt is 17 years old and it wasn't even mine.   I let someone charge something on the card.   I closed the card and this person never paid the balance as promised.   17 years later these bottom feeders that paid pennies on the dollar owed are trying to collect the full amount plus interest.    I don't think so.  Have they ever heard of "Statute of Limitations?"    When they call............hang up.   If they call back the same day its harassment.   Then you can turn them in to the FCC.    Let them step in their own horse dung.  They always do.

Callr ID said Academy Services.  Voicemail left by "David Green/e" who says he's asking for "Charles" (no one here by that name).  Also says he has Charles' file in front of him and just needs to ask a few questions.  Even left a number: 800-220-0605 x4453.

Yep, I too get calls from this debt collection service, and I don't have any owed or pass-due credit cards because I don't have any credit cards! I only got to speek with one person when answering and explained this, they would not tell me who they are looking for and wouldnt' even tell me who they were until i gave them my name. When i gave them my name and it wasn't the name they were expecting they said sorry and hung up. I keep getting these damn calls though and calling them back at the number the robot voice leaves just gets me a stupid answering robot voice! This is assinine.

I went to the donotcall site and files an email complaint. I hope it makes a difference but i doubt it.

They call approximately 5x a month asking for a Sarah Johnson.  When I call them back to tell them they have the wrong number they play dumb. Another time I asked to speak to the person and extension that they left on my voice mail and they stated that person no longer worked there..I immediately called back and was transfered to that person who played dumb.  Does anyone know how to get them to stop calling my cellular phone asking for someone else???????

It's not a scam it's a real collection agency, I finally answered the phone it found out. They were asking for my cousin that used to live with me. After some prying I found out the company name. They are not allowed by law to tell you that it's collections agency unless they get the person they are looking for(That's what they told me). unless you demand the full name like I did. I googled it afterward to make sure.
They told me that the only way they know if it is a wrong number is if they get some one online to tell them. So call them back if it's a wrong number.

We got a call from 856-668-4130; caller ID reported caller as Academy Services. They were calling for someone who lived at this address about three years ago. They look up his last known address and call the number listed, which happens to be us. Since we have been here, we have received dozens of calls from a variety of agencies looking for him.

1) Collectors or otherwise are only allowed to call during these hours - Mon thru Sat 8am-9pm Sunday 9am-9pm.

2) Collection companies have every right to ask you for the monies owed. You can tell them that your records do not match, or that you do not owe "their" company a dime. It doesn't make the problem go away though.

It's better to call the originating companies that you owe debt to, and work out a repayment program.

I will say that once upon a time, when AMEX decided it wanted payment in full on a $25K business account, it was sent to collections. The woman was rude and didn't realize that we knew collection laws and our rights. Long story short, she way overstepped her bounds on a few fronts, she was fired and charged with mail fraud and AMEX settled with us without penalty (paid in full without judgment or settlement status on our credit rating) for a little over $4K. Those things don't happen very often though.

Look at your credit report, see what you owe to whom and get on the phone negotiating. Tell these other folks that you seriously have no prior business contact with them and will report them to the FCC.

Called multiple times looking for the guy I sold my house to 3 years ago. Must have looked up his address (my old address) and found my number instead. Robot said to press "2" if I was not the person they were trying to locate. I did so and kept receiving calls.

Finally, I called 856-668-4130 and got a *gasp* friendly operator. She said she'd take my number off the search list and that I may receive one more call before it takes affect in 3-4 days. She instructed me to just hang up if I receive said call.

We'll see...

These bottom feeders purchased a debt written off by Discover Card over 10 years ago.   They will keep on calling you until you go crazy.   The easiest way to stop them......send them a CEASE COMMUNICATION letter.   Oh and by the way...they're office is a POST OFFICE BOX.   Real professional outfit we got here.  They just want any money they can squeeze from you and you're not paying anyone off.   Just lining their pockets.  If you're into donations to the needy......go right ahead and pay these fools.  Its a meaningless payment.  They've called me numerous times a day and once before 8am.  This is a violation. Report them to the FTC for a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Act.   And....write down everytime they call.   I started answering the phone and leaving it in the pillow. They hang up after about 20 seconds.  Frustrates the HELL out of them.     Enjoy it.  Then once they get their CERTIFIED LETTER to Cease Communication........they'll be fined if they try to call again.  Caller ID is a Godsend.    Here's their address:  Academy Collection Services,  Attention: C. Alessandrine 10965 Decatur Road, Box 210890, Philadelphia, PA 19154.  Make sure you get a signed receipt either digital or postcard for documentation.    They use 3 phone numbers:  856-668-4130, 856-668-4528 and their favorite is 0000000000.   Don't answer any of them.

Did you know Academy Collection Services was fined $2.5 Million from the FTC for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act?    Yes they were and they've continued their illegal tactics of annoying people repeatedly with call after call after call on a daily basis.  They want to get you so upset that you'll pay them so they'll go away.  They'll never go away until you send them a CEASE COMMUNICATION LETTER and send it CERTIFIED MAIL.  And then and only then will they go away.    Don't pay them a dime.  You're throwing your money away.

After 2 months and 29 phone calls from Academy Collection Services I took the bull by the horns and researched this company.  On November 14, 2008 United States of America sued Academy Collection Service, Inc; Keith Dickstein (perfect name for the business he's in); Albert Bastian and Edward Hurt (another great name for collections) all officers of Academy Collection Service.   The Civil Action was for Civil Penalties, Injunctive Relief and other Relief.  Basically the United States wants Academy to obey the rules set forth by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.   Academy was fined $2.5 Million and was told to basically clean up their act.  They must be in compliance of this court order.  Or face the judge again and be sanctioned.    According to the court documents which you can read online:

Academy has collected over 1 million debt accounts a year. Can you just imagine how many people have suffered thru their relentless annoying phone calls?   On numberous occasions Academy collectors THREATENED or implied that Academy would garnish your wages, seize or attach your property or initiate lawsuits against them if they failed to pay Academy.  Academy had NO LEGAL AUTHORITY or intent to do any of the above.   On numerous occasions Academy collectors withdrew amounts from consumers' bank accounts without obtaining prior authorization or consent.  Academy collectors deposited or threatened to deposit postdated checks prior to the date on such checks.  On numerous occasions Academy collectos called consumer's employer and third parties such as parents, children, other relatives, neighbors and co-workers.  Academy collectors used harassing and abusive tactics.  They call numerous times a day.  If you hang up they call right back.  They used abusive language including profanity when speaking with consumers.    Does any of this sound familiar?

So, here's what I did to get rid of them.  And by the way......they continued to call after receiving the Cease Communication letter sent to them via Certified Mail and signed by their representative.     I sent the Cease Communication letter on August 5, 2009.   On August 8, 2009 the letter was delivered and I have a digital signature from C. Alessandrine at the address: Academy Collection Service, Inc, 10965 Decatur Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154.  That should have stopped all communication.  But it didn't.  On August 10, 2009 they called me 5 times in a single day.   I faxed them at 215-281-7512 to show them the Cease Communication letter they signed for on 8/8/09.  They called me 4 more times after the fax.   These people think they're above the law.

SO then I decided to go to a higher power.  I filed 4 complaints with the FTC regarding all the violations including calling before 8am on August 6, 2009.  And I found the court documents with the Class Action Lawsuit filed in 2008.  I emailed Patrick Rose, Assistant U.S. Attorney in Las Vegas where the case was filed.  Civil Action No.2:08-CV.  email address: patrick.rose@usdoj.gov  and I emailed John Burke, Trial Attorney Office of Consumer Litigation with the U.S. Dept of Justice in Washington, D.C. josh.burke@usdoj.gov and Deborah Marrone, Attorney for Federal Trade Commission, New York dmarrone@ftc.gov

I got a response from Ms. Marrone immediately.  She provided me with the contact information for Academy Collection Service for compliance.  compliance@academycollection.com  or call 800-220-0605 ext 2261.    Make sure you send your Cease Communication letter first.  Make sure you have written proof they received the certified letter.   If they continue calling......email, call or fax Academy showing your proof of the Cease Communication letter being received by Academy.   If they still keep calling I'd email the attorneys listed above.  Academy cannot violate the court orders they agreed to in April, 2009 when they were fined $2.5 Million.   The highest fine ever to a collection company for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in U.S. history.    You have rights and no one has to take the abuse these people spew in an effort to line their own pockets.  My debt was 19 years old.  The debt was written off over 10 years ago.  The Statute of Limitations ran out years ago. They have no standing on this case and deserve nothing from me.   Good luck ridding yourselves of this disease known as Academy Collection Service.
