I got a text saying I needed to call to verify my City County CU account.  Since i didnt have an account there I was worried about an identity theft situation but I called and they tried to get me to enter my credit card number.

This is tied to vishing scam at this time. They send a text that your credit card will be deactivated unless you call this number.

This scam is still active, I recieved the same message asking for account verification. But when you call, you get the (not in service message)

Call 858-487-0974 and verify your City County CU account identity immediately. thank you

I got the paro@tva.org text version today. Never heard of City County CU so I figured I would netsurf it first. SO glad I did, too!

Must be hitting the Minnesota networks now.  I also got one from paro@tva.org.  Same thing.  I am going to follow up with this on Monday, may even have my local police look into it.

KKM--same format?  or anything new about the phish? Sorry to ask but I work with IT security and people would like to know if this is evolving?

Did not return call

I received the same message last night at 10:00.  I sent a text message back to them that read "bite me!!!!"

Received text message on cell phone (in MN) at 10/2/08 around 6pm from rati@pia.org stating "Call at (858)-487-0974 and verify your City County CU account identity."
I googled pia.org and the phone # and verified it is a scam which I assumed it was since I did not recognized the sender.  Still wonder how they got my cell phone #.

I got the same message. I called it back and I got a recording saying the number was disconnected.  The interesting thing was they number on the recording was not the number called.

Me too! i tried calling it thinking it was important, i ended up leaving a message because no one picked up. i hate these things.

Apparently they are on a run tonight.  Just got this same text message that everyone has gotten.  Scam.

I actually have an account there, but they found me on an email account the bank does not have.  Comforting that I'm not the only one.

Just received a Test Message from rati@pia.org telling me to call 858-487-0974 to verify my County & City Credit union account number.  I don't have an account there so I looked the number up on the computer.

Received the same text message on my cell phone at 8:09 PM October 2nd. It stated it was from City County Federal Credit Union. This is obviously a scam and I hope the get the people responsible.

I received the same message at 4:19pm CST, I didn't think anything of it just figured its junk.

Message received:

Also recently received an email from "City-County Federal Credit Union" <privacy@ccfcu.org>.

ccfcu.org is the web site for City County Federal Credit Union of Hennepin County, MN.  They have a warning on their home page about the email phishing scam.

Text message - Fr: paro@tva.org sent text message to my phone stating "Call at (858)-487-0974 and verify your City County CU acount identity immediately. Thank you."

Problem is - I do not have a City County CU account. PHISHING is my take or is it VISHING. Nevertheless - sounds like a scam!

Just got a text from them. The # I dialed back said it is disconnected..

I got the same-tempted to give them the first 12 numbers of a phony credit card number, then pretend to have trouble reading the last four. When pushed, I'll be able to make out the last 4 just before they give up. The last part of the information they want? UP YOURS!

"Call at 858-4870974 and verify your city county CU account identify immediately.  Thank you."  (text received on my cell at 5:15 PM  on October 2 2008 from "paro@tva.org") - which ticks me off because I pay 30 cents for each incoming text....

I called Tennessee Valley Authority to verify (number found at tva.org) and was transferred to their IT Command Center.  They told me that it was a phishing scheme and asked me to forward the message to a worker there so that they could track down who was sending these messages out.

DO NOT respond to the text or phone number of the con-artisit with personal information.

I called from a land line and heard a phone service message stating that the number is not in service.  

How did they get my cell records to send this text?

I received the same number asking me to call immediately.  I also have sprint and live in MN.  Whats interesting or maybe a coincidence is that we were just recently in san diego a couple wks ago.  Not sure if they got our number there somehow?  I just deleted it!

They do have offices in TN and CA, sorry about that.  Just confirmed w/ rep there.
