Wonder why I'm getting a call daily?  Nobody in my family went to UCSD.

I used to work for some scum bags in LA that ran a telemarketing operation for non profits.  They were scum bags because of the way they ran their operations.

The non profits were legit, but mostly people were annoyed by us calling asking for MORE MONEY.  Sometimes there was a legitimate campaign, but people were donation weary.

I now contact companies and organizations and tell them that I am happy to make a yearly (or monthly in some cases, auto debit) donation, but if they mail me anything, I will call back to ask them to take me off of all lists and stop donating.  Good companies, profit and non, will listen to you and comply.  (Omaha steak, tell them you want one catalog the second week of November so you can order gifts for Christmas, and you will get that ONE mailing)

This is caller is likely an operation that takes a slice of whatever you donate.  They are likely contracting with UCSD, so in that sense, the would be "legit", but annoying none the less.

If you want to donate, do it directly with the University, unless they tell you otherwise.

And the one time you pick up and they are there, ask them to take you off of their list.

Non-profit Organization
They are students calling on behalf of UCSD for fundraising. They cannot receive incoming calls at the calling center and it is policy to not leave a voice message. They will continue calling until they get to talk to the alumni (requests from spouses or other relatives to stop calling cannot be applied unless of course the alumni has changed numbers). They also call parents of freshman students as well as community members that have donated in the past. If you want them to stop calling, you need to answer the call and request to be taken of the list forever. "Forever" is the key word, stress it because if not said, they will call back next year again. Please be nice, they are just undergraduate students doing their job and they have been told to be persistent in asking for donations (i.e. their policy to ask at least 4 times if not more for a donation before they are allowed to hang up, and continue to ask until they get a donation or you hang up on them). Honestly, just a polite request to not be called FOREVER is all that's necessary and it probably makes their life easier than you making up a fake excuse about being busy and never picking up again, because the calls will continue.

This is one of many similar numbers that the telemarketing call center uses to call me nightly. I believe they are soliciting funds for the University of California at San Diego. They never leave a message.

Family just got another one tonight.  For undergrads, it wouldn't be the alumni association calling, would it?

I get these call as well.  I think it is UCSD alum stuff. I answer, but there is never a response.  They started after I got a call from UCSD asking for donations and told them I did not have time to respond right then.  I have been getting them ever since.

I get the same annoying call time and time again, from 858 535 9030

You can set up a computer modem to dial this number back, over and over.  Eventually it will answer and your modem stays online waiting for the other modem, but the other modem never responds and you can tie up their line indefinitely.  Maybe they'll get the message.

I came up with this idea 15 years ago to block outgoing robo calls from a hate mongering site espousing the evils of "racial mixing."

Anyone still have a modem????

Someone calls from this # 858-535-1832 every night around 8 or 8:30 p.m.  The caller Id has UCSD as the place were the call is coming from.  Today 3/13/09 I called that # and no one answered, then I called the student center at UCSD, # 858-534-3362 and asked if it was a campus # I was told no and to ask the campus operator and my call was forwarded.  The campus operator said that is not a # from UCSD campus to call the medical center operator.  I called the medical center operator # 619-543-6444, and  was told  again the # was not coming from UCSD medical center.   Unless it's some research place/institution affiliated with UCSD I have no clue why they are calling and why UCSD is showing up in the caller id.  If anyone finds more info please pass it on since it is very aggravating to have someone calling so late every day.
