I work at startel and we do electric not auto loans. and another thing all you ppl complaining about rates going up for one its up to you a consumer to watch the rates on your bill. I mean come on the gas station doesn't call you when their prices go up and down do they? didn't think so.

Startel llc is a telemarketing company with a large number of types of clients. They are also; in my opinion, a criminal organization that gets away with violating the law because they are paid up with the right people. Not only do they not respect the 'Do Not Call' registries, they use those very same lists to select people to call. In addition, in some cases, particularly when they represent power suppliers, if they can trick you into revealing your account information they will switch you to a new supplier without your consent.

Totally illegal, but in their arrogance they feel that they are above the law. And actually, given that the FTC and FCC allow them to get away with it, I suppose they technically are. After all, the law that is written is rarely the law that is actually enforced. Good luck getting justice through the usual channels.

So what do you do when the law and law enforcement fail to protect you? You have to get creative and protect yourself. I will be the last to advocate violence against them but if violence is used I won't shed any tears. What I do, is I set up my selective call forwarding to automatically forward their calls back to their own toll-free sales department. That way they can call themselves; instead of me, and on their own dime. I am sure other creative things can be done with their other direct contact points. Especially if a lot of people do it, and flood them with their own spam. This is their contact info:

This startel is a scam. they called me and told me I submitted an application for an auto loan in which I did not. These people are trying to rob people identities in trying to get personal information from you. Please do not fall for this scam. These people are identity theives and they do not know how to speak proper english. Its looks like these people are from india cause of how they are talking. They speak with a india accent. BEWARE OF THESE PeOPLE-THEY ARE NOTHING BUT IDENTITY THEIVES. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION.

Call and no one on the other end.  Checked caller ID and received startel  856-335-1769.  Called and had a recorded message saying no one was available.  This violates the robocall laws and I will contact the federales.  I'm looking at a lawsuit vs.  Verizon for being a harassment enabler.

its not a scam they arent switching your electric company their switching who your company purchases their power from. i.e power is formed on a grid then purchased by a supplier i.e startel then purchased by a distributor i.e pepco so your not switching companies bc you cant the company you have services your area the thing your switching if you participate is who your company purchases their power from which in turn can give you a lower rate the reason they ask for your info is to make sure they apply to switch to the right account their not asking for your ssi number or anything just the info necessary to change sup[plier and your distributor i.e. pepco or whoever remains the same do your research before you slander someone

its not a scam do your research you have an electric provider and distributor your distributor will remain the same because they service your area i.e. pepco or whoever you have. the thing that changed is they passed a law where you now have the choice to pick your supplier and pepco or whoever sticks with whoever they normally have however  by picking a new supplier you have the choice of who your electric company buys their power from and in turn that could give you a lower rate you have to see what rate they offer and what rate you currently pay and see which one is lower and keep in mind your not switching electric companies bc you cant you only have a choice of who your company buys the electricity off of

Get lots of calls from these people.  When "Startel" shows up on caller id, I take the phone off the hook and lay it down without speaking.  Still hasn't stopped them after many calls.

Number keeps contacting me.  Solicitation phone calls after I've asked numerous times to be removed.

Received another call today (12/4/13) from Startel LLC. They never leave a message. However, based on all the comments I read they used "another" phone # 856-335-1765.  I have had calls that if I called the number back it would say the number is no longer in service.  Had a number checked by AT&T and they said the same thing.  According to AT&T the caller uses another number to forward the call and makes it untraceable even by AT&T.  Terrorists could use this system and not be traced.  Had filed a complaint with the FCC on a "No Name Found" number but if the number isn't in service even the FCC can't do anything.

Reviewed many comments about Startel LLC, however, they called me again today but used "another" number: 856-335-1765.  They never leave a message.  Have stayed with Direct Energy for a couple of years as they have offered a good "fixed" rate with the latest being for 15 months to Dec. 2014.

I live in NJ so why the heck is a Ct company calling me to lower my rates... total BS. And how did they not see that the area code is a NJ code, not a Ct code?  Idiots and scamsters

After they talked to me on the phone regarding my overpriced DISH TV receiver they said they would send me within 3 days a new one with lower monthly costs. They asked me for my credit card number and before getting a reference number from them the call broke up and they never called again. I just talked to DISH TV customer service people; there isn't anything on their records which confirms the reasons and the shipment of a cheaper receiver.

this number calls my number at least twice a week every week, Please can someone stop this.  no one ever answers. Whiovever owns this number please disconnect their calls.

To day-10-24-2013, received a called for woman saying represent C.L&P, with a  descount in my future bill, it is a scam, as I trusted to CL&P give them my account #.latter talking with my neighbor told me that it is a scam. I am reprting to the police and General Attorney as well to stop with this unresponsable people taken advantange a retirement comunity.

Just let it ring and after 3 rings they hung up.  Only 2 calls today so far... not as bad as usual.

Like others, it took me a few times to get someone in person and it was something about my electric bill. Told them my mother had passed and we were packing up the house and settling her affairs. Doesn't seem like a company I'll miss out on by tricking them. :)

Go to PUC,  BBB helps, but these folks have more respect for and fear of PUC.  It will take some time, but document all of their overcharges vs your carrier (they will put a rate to compare on each bill) and let PUC know that they had promised to lower your electric bill.  I have had to file twice, but Starion has offered to send me a check that is close to what they overcharged.  (I haven't seen it yet, but "The check is in the mail.")  Good luck

spoke to someone who wanted to lower my electric rate but couldn't explain how. Asked me to answer some questions and when I said I will call back, gave me a different # . Hung up called same # displayed on my caller ID no one answered.
