Got a call, email, and text message from BOA about fraudulent transactions on my debit card. The phone call came from 315 724 4022 Utica, NY. I was just as sceptical of the 866 242 6289 as everyone else, so I found another phone # on the BOA website (1 877 833 5617). Got hold of a BOA fraud department and there was actually fraudulent charges that needed to be confirmed. The person on the line took care of it. To quickly verify the # I'm posting here yourself, go to BOA website and put into the search bar "1.877.833.5617". You will see several FAQ answers with this number in it. Use this number and get it taken care of.

It was legitimate - I really did have a new alert on my BOA debit card when I checked online, but nevertheless, I still called via the number I *knew* to be my bank's. Better safe that sorry.

Forgot to mention they just wanted to verify my last transaction if I used my debit card at the Gas Station, which i did by mistake because I always use my other card. That's cool they're watching out for us.

I received a voicemail from BOA stating there was unusual activity on my debit card however, I was hesitant to call this number  & 6 digit code they provided.

I tried calling the number on the back of my debit card but it kept disconnecting.

So instead logged into my bank account to see the history of alerts. Same message that I need to call  since they see unusual activity and put a hold on my card till I call . The number I called was
1-877-833-5617

I later verified that the number 1-866-242-6289 and 6 digit code provided was legit (bank of america agent confirmed this) but its always good practice to just call the number on the back of your card instead

Same thing as everyone else.  They texted my cell phone saying "free text msg alert- Bank of America has temporarily limited the use of your check card due to unusual activity.  Please call 1-866-459-9195 to Opt out" and they also called twice leaving voice mails as described below.  However, when I called my Bank of America card services on the back of my credit card, she said there was no unusual activity and it was just a scam trying to get information.  She said that happens a lot and it is a mass calling system to try to get information.  crazy!!!

Someone was using my ATM card a few months ago and my bank emailed me and called me personally (no recording) to let me know. I even checked my account and sure enough, I was in the hole. This call from 8662426289 was a recording about suspicious activity on my account. I naturally freaked out because it happened to me months ago, and I called the number right away. Still a recording, they wanted personal information so I chose the option to speak to a representative. I was on hold for a while because I checked my account and I was fine. Nobody is available to talk.

got an email with that number - the number seems ligit. Keep in mind that scammers may add correct details to their emails or calls to make it seem legitimate. Also if someone mistakenly put the wrong phone number on their account or changed numbers then someone else will end up with the call.

THE NUMBER IS LEGIT, BUT CALL YOUR BANK TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE. The scammers on this page are the people who don't want you to call the number back so that they can buy more time trying other ways to use your card information. I personally called the number on the back of my debit card to verify if indeed there was unusual activity on my card, and there was. Someone tried to take a bunch of money out of a CitiBank ATM...got denied since I NEVER go to CitiBank and then tried again at Bank of America ATM...and got denied again. I'm lucky those a**holes weren't able to steal from me. CALL YOUR BANK TO CONFIRM!! BofA rep warned me to beware of ATM at gas stations and to make sure the LCD lights are working at bank ATMs. If the LCD lights aren't working, don't put your card in.

This is fraud!  I called the bank and they said it is not from the bank they said it was from.  Do not give them any information.  Go directly to your bank or through their website.  Do not give any information over the phone and report it to your bank fraud unit.  This happened to me tonight and that's what I did.  It is the same number you got.  They asked for my social security number.  No bank does that!  Be smart.  Be careful!

This number is listed on an automated message from 315 724 4022 to call and verify Bank of America. Both 315 724 4022 and 866 242 6289 are committing fraud by collecting bank data utilizing devious means for people lacking forwarding knowledge.

Please block both numbers if they are virtual call forwarding numbers.  I will also report to local FBI office and offer them this site to review other numbers.

It's legit. I called the number I had in my contacts to be on the safe side, but it was real. Fortunately, the suspicious activity was stuff I had done, but they wanted to be sure.

Phone message left at my home phone for my daughter's Bank of America ATM account. Since I am a signer on the checking account I called. My daughter is a college student in another state. I called the 1-866-242-6289 phone number and plugged in the six digit message code. I spoke with a representative named Rodrigo. I spent twenty minutes verifying information, repeating and explaining, repeating and explaining. He asked for my daughter's birthdate FIVE times. I very clearly told him I wanted to know WHY a temporary hold was put on my daughter's ATM card.  FINALLY after twenty minutes he said, "just a moment", and then hung up. When I called the 1-866 242-6289 number and plugged in the six digit message code, 403744, the prompts would not accept my call. PLEASE HELP.

Received a call from 315 724 4022 this morning (27 Feb 2011 at around 8:00am CST) stating they were the Bank of America Fraud department and to call 866-242-6289 because of suspicious activity on my bank of america debit card.  I was very hesitant to call the number as it was a bit out of the ordinary BUT i looked up the information and gave them a call to see what was going on and low and behold there actually was fraudulent charges on my debit card and i verified on my online account that these charges were actually on my account.  They assisted in canceling my debit card, reissuing a new debit card and reversed the charges.  I'm actually not a huge Bank of America fan but this is an outstanding service that quickly found that my debit card was being misused.

I was pretty paranoid getting that call wondering if it was legit. I went to this site so fast. I have a BOFA account and they called me about items that just appeared on my account that I didn't purchase. They told me that they would close the checkcard and send out a new one. When I hung up with these people I immediately called the BOFA number I had to confirm everything that happened. Sure enough, the checkcard was closed and they were sending a new one. Whew. I love this site!

I also received this call, looking for a "Barbara P. Neil" to report unusual activity on her Bank of America ATM card, metioning a possible "hold" on the acount. There is no such person at my number.  The message was left on my voice mail.

Sounds suspicious, as it is the same spiel everyone else got.

I called the # that appeared on my caller ID, that the call came from, not the # I was instructed to call, and it was answered automatically as "Bank of America". It suggested I enter my "Access Id"

I got a message on my phone saying there was suspicios activity on my ATM and that it has been suspended. The message didn't say my name or the name on my account.  It asked that I call 866-242-6289 by Dec. 27th and enter message code 112462.  I didn't call the number as it sounded pretty suspicious.

I checked my account using online banking - no unusual activity, no major purchases.

Obviously some kind of scam.

The calls are still coming with the message that there was suspicious activity on my ATM car and the card may have been suspended, but there were no specifics.  Not the name of my bank, nothing.  I checked my account and there were no unusual transaction, and I was called on an unlisted number that I've never given to any business so it sounds like someone has gotten fancy with their scam.
