I do a similar thing except I don't say anything until they do. Then I'll say, as if giving orders, "Let's get the blood cleaned up and the body removed. I'm going to find out who's on the phone and see what relationship they have with the deceased. Could be a person of interest." Then I say "Hello". Sometimes they hang up and sometimes they ask for me. I tell them I can't come to the phone and then start asking them questions like their name, do they know me personally, etc. By that time they just want to get off the phone but I push them further and ask where they can be reached if there are any questions during the investigation. If they ask questions, I tell them it's an ongoing investigation and I'm not at liberty to divulge any information.

Calls my cell phone daily...I finally answered and they asked for me by name and then hung up.  The caller ID shows my local area code (Eastern Time), not 866, but when I called back it sends you directly to a generic answering machine message saying the office is closed and to call back M-F 7am-4pm Pacific Time.

Continuous unsolicited calls.  Would NEVER contribute to the leukemia lymphoma society.

Received a call from this number before 8:30 a.m.  When I decided to answer to see who it was, the caller told me name and said she was a paid solicitor . . . at which point I just hung up.

These same people called my home number yesterday using a different number. I am on the National Do Not Registry but they still call. This might be a great organization and with a wonderful mission, but I don't want them calling me unsolicited. It is annoying and my annoyance is made worse by the knowledge that the CEO makes over $500,000 a year. I won't give any money to an organization, no matter how beneficient their motives are, if they use these tactics to raise money.

My guess is the telemarketer is using a computer dialing program.  When you answer their, you are routed to the first available agent.  If an agent is not available within a prescribed time (a few seconds) or an answering device activates, the computer disconnects the call.  About the only way to avoid repeat calls is to purchase a call blocker and add the offender's number.  Signing up with the government's Do Not Call Registry is a waste of time.  Telemarketers ignore the government's prohibition of  contacting registered phone numbers.  And, the government makes little or no effort to prosecute these low lifes.

This caller left a message:  John from the Medical Alert Sytems calling to schedule delivery of a free system....has already been paid for including shipping.....third time they've called and will not stop.  Feels like a scam.

I think I will answer next time and offer to donate.  I will give a name of Dick Swingslow, and a fake credit card number.  When they say the card doesn't work, I will say, "Neither does this number.  Stop calling."

This number keeps coming up and no message is left.

Leukemia Society.  Best way to handle these is to ask how much of your donation actually goes to the charity (this line works great when you have the "fraternal order of" state police, local police, sheriffs etc).  For starters, the rep probably won't know, get a supervisor and then they will tell you about 10-15% ONLY goes to the charity...the rest to the fundraiser (85% +++!!!) I always say I never donate to an organization with that split and to remove me from the list.  Do this for ANY charity that calls you ...you'd be surprised how many give so little to what pulls on your heart strings.

These are robo-calls generated by a FAKE Leukemia charity. Does anyone think that all these multiple scattered calls are really legit?

LQQK, this is a scam set up to get ID information from you. These rip-offs are looking to reach some poor fool who doesn't know they are a con game. They pretend to be a charity to get sympathy , then they "harvest" your identity information and you end up getting your identity stolen.

BLOCK their calls, don't call them back. HANG up on them. If you do call them back, they will just sell or trade your phone number to other robo-scammmers from the Philippines or felons with cell phones in USA prisons.

This number called at 8:30a.m. and no one responded when I answered after the second ring.

Since they keep changing the number they call from, blocking does not work so I route all incoming numbers beginning with 18662 directly to voice mail. It at least keeps my phone from ringing.  So far they have not left a message.  So now  I will only get disturbed by them at my convenience, not at their convenience.

DO NOT DO THIS; these are scammers working under the disguise of legitimate fundraising.

1) little if any of the money someone might donate, will ever get to the sponsor agency they claim to be with.

2)  If you push the option to "remove your number" or "opt out of future calls", you won't be - because you just verified to the telemarketing firm calling you (the numbers are computer dialed) the number the computer called is a valid, working number - and NOW THEY ARE GOING TO SELL YOU PHONE NUMBER ON THE OPEN MARKET OF OTHER ROGUE "TELEMARKETERS" - and you will continue to get calls as long as you continue to opt out.

If you don't recognize the number on Caller ID - don't answer.  If it is something important - they will send you a letter.

Simply make note of the numbers they use then locate their main voice number then forward the offending 866 calls it put a stop to the calls here

I don't know who they are but I answered at 7:59 am!!!  I was so mad I yelled and hung up.  Come on can I get thru 1 cup a coffee without a telemarketer call.

These telemarketers have many numbers at their disposal.  I have blocked all the previous numbers so when I get a call and it rings through then I know it is a new number from the same telemarketers

Thank you for this website!  I just filled out the form listed from the post dated 14 May 2011.  As others, I've received numerous calls from all of the same numbers mentioned here.
