I had an rbc student loan. I missed one payment and got sent to collections: ARC. Payed them well over $25 000 which was more than my loan. Called them recently and they said my account was closed. Then I started getting calls from Credit Bureau Of Canada Collections. So basically I paid off my loan and then it got sent to another collection agency so that I'll have to continue paying this for the rest of my life? I don't think so

CBCC is Credit Bureau of Canada Collections out of Mississauga, Ontario, if you owe debts they have bought they will harass you by phone , if you dont want them calling you must send them a letter stating that , any promises they make by phone dont mean anything as it "must" be in print form to be valid , the by phone threats are just posturing to intimidate you into paying

Re. the 2 year act....so if you default on a loan in Ontario after the date in 2004 the creditor has only 2 years to pursue you for repayment?

Obviously " the person who calls themself ME" who wrote the nasty comment works for these folks..Why else would he be on this site responding to this number if he had not received a call himself..So obvious..
just so people know..Once your debt has been defaulted past the two year mark they can no longer take you to court to collect so their threats are empty..Of course they won't tell you this..Here is a quote taken from the Canadian government site.

http://www.bankruptcycanada.com/limitationacts.htm

Ontario - The Ontario Limitation Act 2002, came into force on January 1, 2004. It sets two years as the term (Section 4). This limitation will be reinstated where the debtor acknowledges the debt or makes a partial payment towards repayment of his debt. If the default occurred prior to January 1, 2004, the creditor will continue to have 6 years to pursue the claim. However, if the default occurred after January 1, 2004 then the 2-year rule applies.

I don't own this agency, but I do know the laws. The voicemail script you wrote is called the "Foti Message", used to protect collection agencies against 3rd party disclosure when leaving voicemails. And by law, the cannot leave the details of the collections matter on your voicemail. Just fyi. Good luck with everything.

It's not a scam, it's a collection agency looking to hunt you down for money you owe to RBC. RBC will say they don't have anything in your name because it has already been written off into their taxes for that year. A collection agency would then buy that debt from RBC for pennies on the dollar, hoping to find the debtor, and cash in. That's how it works. If you have these people calling you, and asking for you by name, then you owe that money. It's no scam.

Why are you all complaining about these people?  YOU OWE THE DEBT!  PAY IT.  Don't say they are evil greedy people.  YOU"RE the evil greedy person.  You borrowed the money, you need to pay it back.
I'm so sick of hearing you shouldn't have to pay it back.  Give me ONE good reason why not?  You went to the bank, you SIGNED a paper saying you would be paying back a loan with interest.  DO IT.  idiots.

Yup, what ppl are saying is true. This is the credit bureau of canada or whatever calling. They would autodial me, a computer voice would say "This is an important message for -", put me on hold for a few moments, then it would hang up on me. They were looking for someone who owned the old number. The woman didn't seem totally professional, remarking on how "their systems weren't behaving properly lately". She told me it would be removed from the system, and if this is true I don't have a problem anymore. If you are having issues with this number dialing you, call it back and resolve it and it should be okay.

I have been getting these messages at work. It's just like all of you say, but when it says who they're calling for, it switches to elevator music. A couple years ago, I had issue with this collection agency - they insisted I had a student loan from RBC that was in default. When I explained that's impossible because I went to university in the US (and my loans were paid off over 14 yrs ago), they said that I WAS WRONG. So I got the number for "RBC" from them and called it. The number was NOT to RBC but some other collection company in NY state.  So I got RBCs number off the net and called that. They had no clue who I was or why this company was bothing me on their behalf.

SCAM people!!  Beware!!!

I just received a call from the Canadian Bureau of Credit and Collections from this number. This guy said that he needed me to call him ASAP because he has good news about something they sent in the mail. Made it sound like a sweepstakes or something. All I had to do was call back and give them the account number he left in the voice mail. Honest collectors? Sorry but if you're going to lie to get people to call in, you're not exactly trustworthy or a company I'd want to deal with. I've had issues with a student loan and was ripped off my a debt collection agency ARC who took my money and didn't put it towards the debt owed, so no, I'm not dealing with them or companies like them. I'm going to deal with the source. There are ways people end up owing money, but there are places out there that give decent collectors a bad name. There are people like that on both sides... collectors who just want to get what they can from people and people who just won't own up to responsibilities. There are good ones too on both sides, but an instant red flag for me is lying right off the hop in a voice mail. Be honest and let the chips fall where they may...

Credit Bureau Canada Collections, on behalf of the Royal Bank. The worst collection agency, agent Raj called me a thief, because I was laid-off and wasn't able to pay him $1400 now ($934 + $466 interest) He claimed they will garnish my EI payment, and seize my bank account.

They alternate between several phone numbers, the other is 647-788-4090, presumily to not have the same number show up too often in caller id displays. As they do call more often than is permitted under the law in ontario. As I had already talked to them several times in a week, I said why are they still calling every day, the Ontario law limits how often they can call, Raj said, I don't care about Ontario, we're based in BC. He acts as it's his own money.

Called and spoke to these folks re messages being left on a relatives machine.  Upon asking who they were, I was told it was Credit Bureau Canada Collections, on behalf of the Royal Bank.  Call was answered quickly, no computer menu, person promised to remove the number from the list as it is not in anyway connected to who they are seeking.
