Today, I got half of a message from these `people' telling me that they need to talk to me. They claimed that by `federal law' they were prohibited from discussing this... whatever it is... on the message.

If they are a collection agency, a legit one (I doubt it), then I have an ide why they might be calling.

A few years ago, in 2004, a `friend' of mine used my phone number as his ebay contact. He ripped people off by not delivering what they paid for, and *I* got their angry phone calls. If he's doing it again, then that may be why I'm getting these calls.

Same thing, Got tired of the calls, so called back from a different # and got to talk to someone. Wouldn't tell me anything other than the company name was "Global" and that they couldn't disclose any information on the matter as I was not the person whose name they had associated with my number. Then they wouldn't even take me off the list. I was told that a note would be placed in their records and sent for processing to determine whether or not I am who I say I am. Wow. Would I have voluntarily called them If I wasn't? I guess if I was the guy they were looking for, I might try that avenue to get them off my back, but seriously, they should check with the phone company before calling, not after I call to complain.

It's Global Credit & Collections. No indication that it is a "rogue" collection agency as the account they called by about was delinquent and not outside of the statute of limitations. A female named Sylvia at ext. 6626 initially called and indicated that it was in ref to a "escalation that required my immediate attention" and although never mentioned being a collection agency, it was pretty obvious to me. I called back and she wanted information on my social security number without advising why she was calling. She was very rude and abrupt. I told her that I don't know who "Global" is and that although I am who she was trying to contact. I started to explain that I would have to know more to verify they were legit, but she became rude and screamed, "Fine get sued then!" and hung up.
Long story short, I called back and spoke with a supervisor named Alan, who is at ext 8770. Alan was very helpful, explained to me the debt it was regarding and and saved me over $300.00 while making suitable arrangements to have the debt paid in full within 4 months.

In researching the company, I found that they are a legitimate source of pre-lawsuit debt solving used by banks. They can be helpful, but my advise is to avoid talking to that crazy b***h named Sylvia because she is nuttier than a s**t house rat. When calling back, ask to speak with Alan the supervisor at ext 8770. He's good to deal with and helpful.

I've just had a dealing with these guys, too.

They may be legit, but they're a shady kind of legit. I spoke with Alan as well. My first call with him was semi-polite, but he was way forceful, and i felt they relied too much on scare tactics, pressuring, and guilt tripping. I simply don't have the up-front cash and told them that and tried to negotiate a payment schedule. He said that wasn't possible at this point, and then pressured me to talk to my family and friends to get the money for a settlement otherwise I would be taken to court.  I refuse to make my family and friends pay for  my debt, and frankly i know i cannot be forced to do so.

I called back today and spoke to Alan. I first asked to be transferred to his manager, but he got on the line and told me there was no one available. Right. Then I told him that I didn't have the money for a settlement, I was still more than willing to set up some kind of payment, and that I refuse to put my parents in charge of paying my debt, even if they could which they cannot.  I also informed him that i was not terribly impressed with the tactics used on me. He immediately got defensive and asked what i meant. I told him I didn't appreciate the guilt tripping, the scare tactics, the fact that they were so sketchy around the messages I did get (and half the messages they tried to leave on my machine stopped recording when my machine beeped) and the fact that in the first call he made me cry (it was a bad day).  He retorted "do you think this is good for your credit? Did anything I say seem false?" I said no, and that i was quite well aware of what this would do to my credit. I reiterated that i refused to get my parents involved and that i wanted to settle.

I was then told that I was informed that any information they had already or were told by me was enough for them to render a recommendation, and with the recording of this phone call (which, I may add, I was not informed of at *ANY* time during the call!) he had enough to render a recommendation. And I was hung up on.

To say how unimpressed I am with these jokers would be an understatement.  I'm writing all of this up and waiting for my court papers. I'm a student; i have no money, no assets, no property, nothing. If they want to come after me they can try... they'll just get a big fat nothing.  In the meantime, I may well file complaints with the FTC, WaMu (who sent them after me), the BBB, and anyone else I can think of. I'm so mad right now I could just shout.

I've gotten 9 calls from these guys in the last four days--however, I haven't answered because I don't take calls from numbers I don't recognize (and they haven't left any messages).  if it really is a debt collection agency, I have to wonder if they are legitimate, as I don't have any debt.

I received several calls for somebody else from this number.
When I called back, I found out that it was a collection agency called Global Credit & Collection.
I found there website ( http://www.globalcollection.net/Consumers.aspx ) and contacted their main number.  They told me that they would remove my phone number from their files, and they did.
