You are setting yourself apart... being so maddening that I wouldn't give $$ at this point in any way. I am on DNCs and will still report (no matter what you say) because they need to know how many times your organization is calling people each day. I am keeping a list of dates and times. I will send a local news channel to your doorstep to verify everything with both Call of America and any government entities. News Channel 15 is hopefully on the way! Maybe when they get the cameras there you will apologize to the public for making the last few days miserable.

Helping vets is not a problem for me for organizations that can be verified. I am on the do not call lists for the state and national and still getting calls everyday!! I am reporting them to both the state and federal agencies because I am on the do not call lists for a reason. I donate to organizations I am familiar with only whether vets, animals, MDA, etc.  I work Third Shift and these calls are outrageous.

BBB Comments

Despite written Better Business Bureau requests in the past year, this organization either has not provided current information or has declined to be evaluated in relation to the BBB's charity standards. While participation in the BBB's charity review efforts is voluntary, the BBB believes that this lack of cooperation may demonstrate a lack of commitment to transparency. Without the requested information, the BBB cannot verify if the charity adheres to the BBB charity standards. A charity's willing disclosure of information beyond that typically included in its financial statements and government filings is, in the Alliance's view, an expression of openness that strengthens public trust in the charitable sector.

The BBB reports on charities and determines if they meet 20 standards on matters such as charity finances, appeals and governance. The BBB does not evaluate the worthiness of a charitable program.

The report is not intended to recommend or deprecate, and is furnished solely to assist you in exercising your own judgment. An organization may change its practices at any time without notice. The Better Business Bureau is a registered service mark of the Council of Better Business Bureaus, Inc.

We receive these phone calls EVERY day, at different times.  They never leave a message.  When I have tried to call the number back, I get a recording that says "sorry your call cannot be completed at this time."

It is very frustrating and annoying to get these calls every day AND we are on a "no call list" for solicitors.

How do we get them stopped?????

I unfortunately made the mistake of picking up the phone after looking at the caller ID.  After the gentlement running through his *script*, I told him I was not interested.  The dollar amount for donation then started to go down, etc.  I told him 2 more time *no* and then his nasty remark was *All the soldiers are going to rot . . .* and hung up.  I then called the number back and instead of saying *Call of America* he goes *Hello* and he got hung up on.  I know better next time if I don't know the number, I don't answer.

so many people wanting to dig into my checkbook everyone wants something... The FOP, IFOP, Disabled Vets, Call of America or at least that's who they say they are.  Unfortunately with all of the scammers out there we have be come sceptical and the people who are trying to make a difference are suffering, but calling over and over again several times a day waking me up is rediculous.  My father is a disabled vet and not one orginazation has ever done anything for him or our family.  With that being said.  If I want to help out a disabled vet I will give my dad the money, or I will personaly find someone who will bennifet from all of the money.  Each of these NFP companies have payrolls and expenses so if I give $100 only part of it ever makes it to these vets.  If I go and deliver it myself they get 100 percent of it.  I ask you this these Non for profits is it right that people get paychecks out of money our vets have suffered and died for.  I think not!  I am a daysleeper so quit calling me and waking me up.  I have to leave my phone on incase my disabled father needs me in an emergancy.

It sounds like you are some what familiar with the laws of Indiana as well as federal rules of telemarketing.  Since the the organization is a not-for-profit we actually are exempt from the DNC list including state and or federal. The National Do Not Call Registry does not limit calls by political organizations, charities, or telephone surveyors.

We are an organization that wants to set itself apart from any past experience you may have had with any fundraisers or telemarketers.  We want to make a difference.  I appreciate the feedback I am receiving from everyone on this website. We care and we want to be an organization that you can say gave you respect regardless of the outcome of the call. We are real and we are learning and most of all we definately support our veterans.

Thanks

I've also been getting calls from this same number.  I shouldn't need to ask you to remove my number from the list, as my number is indeed registered with the Do Not Call list.  As a "legitimate" Not-For-Profit organization, you should be familiar with that and you should have made arrangements to filter your calling lists to bypass any numbers on that list.  I agree with the other posters here -- this is no way for a "legitimate" organization to operate! And if you don't stop calling my number, I will *also* file a complaint with the State of Indiana!

Figure it out!

Dear Mr. Grayson,

The C.O.A. will be happy to remove your name from our list. We never intended to BOTHER anyone. We feel that it shouldn't be a problem for a person to kindly say yes or NO to helping out the veterans. Either you can or you can't help  it's not a big deal.

Mr Grayson, I investigated the calls we made to you and you were only called 2 times on 2 separate days but you reported to our corporate office that you were called at least 4 times. Out of the 2 times your number was called, once was an answering machine. the other call it appears that it was not answered by you.

Mr Grayson, I don't like to hear bad things about the organization especially on a website.  I want to make sure that we take care of it immediately. I don't know which agent you asked to remove your number but  I will listen to the recordings of each call to make sure that our agents are correctly doing their job of answering the call and removing your number as you said you requested. Then I would like to speak with you personally so we can talk about the issue you have with the COA and to ensure that your number is promptly removed from every list so that we do not bother you about the homeless veterans throughout the state again.

We do apologize

Got a call from them last night- Told them to remove my name and not bother me anymore. Tonight I got another call and this time they didn't speak-just hung up after I answered. This is no way to run a legitimate charitable organization. If they keep it up I will turn them in to the Indiana Attorney General.

I don't know who you are or your objective. What ever the case, PLEASE remove me from your call list. You're wasting your time and mine. I have caller ID and I will not answer ANY call I cannot identify and yours  falls into that category. I'm old and grouchy, don't want to be bothered by you or anybody like you. Just go away or go to hell. If you are begging rest assured you will be the last one I would contribute to.

Just doing some research myself and see that the company was just founded on December 7, 2010.  So that would be why they have nothing for 2010.  This is a brand new organization.  Would definitely be a great cause this organization is for if it is legit.

Received this call not too long ago and was pretty rude when I asked who it was again. He literally screamed, "CALL OF AMERICA!!!!!!!!" and with a bit of an attitude. "Well you said you couldn't hear..." I hate 800 and 866 numbers...

Their website is thecallofamerica.org.  They called me also.  I tried to email them to see if they have a form 990 or an annual report for 2010, just to verify that the money they are collecting is actually being spent where they say it is.  However, my email was returned as undeliverable.

I called them and spoke to the manager who pointed me to the website and stayed on the phone with me while I asked every question imaginable. They are maybe the strongest advocates for the homeless veterans as well as veterans in need of assistance. They focus exclusively on Indiana so I would be happy to help further their cause of uplifting the soldiers in need. Take a look at some of the success stories. The manager also pointed out to me that their mission is to be people friendly and they want to reverse the current trend of non for profits that use fundraising outfits to do the fund raising because the actual cause never gets more than 15% of what they collect. They are a good group so I will support them.

I just want to say that the organization is an honest non profit that is making a difference for a lot of Vets and their families throughout the state. (See web site) If you ever have any problem please use the contact information and contact us immediately. As for the do not call. We do maintain a list. since we are new to this, there may be a time or two that you are not removed from all of our list but if you politely ask to be removed we will do so with no problem. We are exempt from the federal and state do not call list but we are happy to remove you when you ask. For those who don't answer the call or just pick up and hung up, that will not finalize your number and it will call again. Please answer our call and if not interested just say so and we won't bother you anymore. For more info call us.
