They called saying they were Capital One. Called twice asking for me by name. I had actually called Capital One a few days ago and they referred to that conversation. I have had fraud calls from Cap One in the past and they were always willing to leave a number, but in this case, the caller said I could not call back.

Got call from above number. Caller asked whether I am Abdul. Told her no. She asked is the number 281-xxx-xxxx. Said Yes. She said the number is listed to Abdul, but she will correct her records.
Googled above number got this site. Thanks for postings. My Analysis is: Capital One's call center has a fax machine and employees/workers are misusing this number to commit fraud. Since they are at call center, several workers must be working there making it difficult to pin down individuals committing the fraud. They also have access to large number of phone numbers to call and trick into swindling / extracting money.

It is positively Internet Yellow pages.  Possibly got our contact info from Capital One credit cards business account.  If you send them a fax, it will come up on the caller ID.

wow i just recently activated my capital one credit card 2 days ago. this number has called me two times in the past 2 days at the exact same time.  i haven't answered and after reading everyone else's experience i won't be answering at all!

I received a call from this number; they asked for me by name and said they had a few questions.  I thought it was a legit survey and they asked me things like based on the current economic situation, would I consider it difficult or easy to refinance, or get a new mortgage?  They asked household income, and what type of mortgage loan I have.  At the end of the call they confirmed the number they had dialed and that was it.  I didn't really give them any real personal info, so it is what it is.  I don't understand the point of the call except to see how people feel in this economy.  I could be wrong though......Anybody else actually answer the questions?  I feel like the only idiot in the nation.

The guy asked if I would answer a few questions for a survey, told him I was at work and hung up.  I recently called Captial one too.  I don't really know if it was a legit call.

I too have been receiving calls from this number for the past few days.  I too recently call Capital One to have a question answered about my account.  These calls started the next day.

just read through the messages...I too just called Capital One last night and earlier today about my account...seems too much of a coincidence doesn't it??

Just got this call as well.  Thanks to everyone who has submitted their experience, as this saved me from being taken.

The number called my cell phone... I didn't answer and I called it back but it was a fax. I work for capital one and I cross referenced the number in our systems and did not find it to be a capital one number. beware!!

I just recieved a missed called from them 5 minutes ago, and I googled the number and found this website.

Apparently they're still up to something. I had a missed call; returned the call; fax answered as well.

They're still at it, now in September.  I'm in Ohio; they just called me.  I didn't answer.

This is the info for those who want it.  Remember, if you call the phone number your phone number will be seen on their Caller ID.  Quirk in FCC Rules allow the ones who pay for the 800's number to get the calling number even if the calling number is "Non-Published".

I received a call(missed) from this number on my cellphone.  I "googled" the number and found this website.  I have not called it back.

I'm in California.  I've been getting several calls on my cell phone from this number lately... probably 5 in the past 2 or 3 weeks.  I never answer because I don't answer numbers I don't recognize, especially a 1-866 number and they never leave a message.  Weird.  And now after reading all this I probably won't ever answer either.

I have been getting calls from this number daily. Why is the do not call list not working?

I'm in Ohio.  I also received a call from this number.  I did not answer it.  Called it back and also got a fax machine.

I'm in North Texas and just received a call from someone asking for Barbara.  When I said it was the wrong number, she replied with the expected, "Well, did I just call xxx-xxx-xxxx?"  Who knows why that mattered; but I just said no and hung up.

this number called my cell phone a few times in a short time. i called back later and when it answered it was a fax sound. i wouldn't answer calls from this number.
