I called 866-363-7172. It's a fax number.
SaltiDawg 2011-06-06 21:01:36 Unknown
Idiot?
Dish does not use the phone line to do Guide and software updates. It does use the phone to transmit the charges for pay-for-view.

cmart...your so dumb that your making me dumb. Scratch that last post... I thought your were saying Echostar and Dish Network were not the same.... your still a dumbass though =)
Titus 2011-06-06 21:01:36 Unknown
Oh, Cmart, Echostar is Dish network dumbass! haha Do your research before you post things, because your making yourself look stupid
Titus 2011-06-06 21:01:36 Unknown
the program guide updates via your sat signal from the 119 Sat. It has nothing to do with your phone line.
Titus 2011-06-06 21:01:36 Unknown
I used to work for Echostar and it only dials out twice a month and you only have to have your phone line hooked up at those times. If you unhook it and you get a prompt on the screen about it, just hook it up and push select, then you can unhook it from you receiver until the next prompt in a few weeks

It shows as I placed a call to this numberaround 11.10 PM . When I know for sure that neither me nor my wife made any calls after 10.45PM

866-363-7172 shows up on my caller id. The call times range from 8:30 a.m to midnight. They don't leave a message. Who are they?
the bond 2011-06-06 21:01:36 Unknown
TechDude is right. once you unhook your phone line from your Dish reciver, they start charging additional $5 per month.
TechDude 2011-06-06 21:01:36 Unknown
Actually CMart, Echostar is right on it and your the idiot
Dishnetwork collects aggregate data from you receiver about the movies that you watch, what you record, how many times you backed up to watch something over and sells the information to who ever wants to pay the price. Why else would it threaten you with a higher bill for unplugging the phone line from it. Try it and see what happens.
Were all little piggies putting money in the farmers pocket

Echostar is an idiot; the number is from Dish Network, that's true; but it is to do the daily updates for your DVR -- to load up the TV schedule and perform other updates; it is not for some nefarious reasons as Echostar the idiot suggests. People like this really annoy me.

I have a MagicJack Phone, and the call log shows a call to *9918663637172! I call the number and they aparently have the unit to do a call check to YMAX communications, their parent company. I guess it's just a system check.
Echostar 2011-06-06 21:01:36 Unknown
IT is your dishnetwork receiver dialing out without your knowledge. You did inadvertently consent to it through that long contract with all the itty bitty text but like millions of other customers, they didn't explain to you that it would actually dial out every day or why.

My phone bill shows several calls to 866-363-7172 and I know for certain that I did not call that number this morning at 7:23 a.m. Reverse lookup is no good.

You must have dish network. the receiver just phone home.
