I placed an item for sale in the local paper. Got a voice message on my cell asking me to email Jane Cole, jan14732@yahoo.com. Said she wanted to buy my item and would send a checi thru her client for an amount $1200.21 in EXCESS of my asking price. I was to deposit the check in my bank account, and send the EXCESS to an address in North Carolina via Western Union.  My bank didn't like the looks of the check, but run it anyway. I am waiting for it to clear before I wire money anywhere. After reading some of these posts, it is obvious that this is a SCAM! Beware of this email address:  jan14732@yahoo.com

yes it is!!! I'm an operator who handles these calls. These scammers take advantage of relay operators training. We are trained not to be part of the conversation. We are trained to relay EXACTLY what was said. It is perfect if we dealt with deaf people only.... But no!

Honestly, we are powerless. I hate it but we are.
The most I can do is tell people online to beware!!

i'm an operator and honestly i process these calls. It's sad because at first I felt honored to be able to service deaf people.... Now it's filled with scams. I don't think the FBI can do anything about. I've researched it and these scammers have been there since 2005.

Sigh. I wish more deaf people will call. Not scammers. I hate scammers.

I work for a popular restaurant. People call us all the time from relay services trying to get us to deliver food for 300-400 people. They want us to charge extra $$ to the credit card & give it as cash to their "agent". Totally bogus. You'd think after we've hung up on them 6 or 8 times that they'd move on.

I own a auto repair shop and have received several calls regarding a hearing impaired customer from another state wants to ship their car to us for service. When I asked why they would come all the way from Texas to Iowa to get their car worked on, I was hung up on. Another scam to watch for.

I have puppies for sale in the newspaper and I keep getting calls from this number. It is really scary and creepy. They call all hours of the night and day. NOt going to be answering it anymore....

Hi folks...this is a relay number for someone who is hard of hearing or deaf. They use this service to type what they want to say into a keyboard or computer device and the operator reads it back to you. You then reply to the operator and she types it back for the hearing impaired person to read. If you get a call from this number and you don't know anyone deaf or hearing impaired, it is probably just a wrong number.

just got 3 calls from this number 866-394-4493 left a msg from operator inquiing about my puppies for sale and left a email of TomJJ21@yahoo.com.

Apparently this is a good way for people to cheat on their spouce.  I got about 20 calls from this number, all within 2 hours.  Come to find out it was an ex who has a girlfriend who didn't want the girlfriend to know that he was calling other girls.  tisk tisk tisk.  But I had no idea that it cost money to use!  Wow, how pathetic!

I just received the call at 12:31 am. I thought it was someone trying to make me accept a collect call. It was weird because well it's 12:31 am. I have a feeling I have seen this call on my missed calls before but i can't remember for sure. They said the person was typing and that they would translate it. It was a female computer voice. I said " Cancel No" and then she proceeded with the call. She said " Hey it's Mike" and I said " Mike who" and then it took a while to hear something and i was tempted to hang up but i didn't and so then she said " from the other night" and that's when i hung up. Now reading through the comments I guess someone was pranking me or something weird. Who knows... I think this number needs to only be known by the people who really need to use it. Not to be abused.

Spammers use this service to create fake Email accounts to send junk mail to our legitimate customers.  Very annoying.

i got a call from this number saying i was under arrest for skating on private property and that they caught on a survalience(????) camera and sent it to the police

I manage an auto repair shop and got a call from a poorly speaking operator saying it was a relay call. I couldn't get a customer name either.  They had gotten a car from out of state and wanted to know if we did brake work. They wanted to ship the car to us and it seemed like they wanted our credit card for payment and we could charge the customer for shipping-I mentioned I Googled the number as spam and they hung up. Other shops in our group also got a like call-BEWARE!

Yes, it is a relay service offered to hearing impaired persons. But abused by scammers.  
I got this call to my business and requested for my email addres to further discuss special order. Further communication was done via email address and that idiot ordered $5000 worth of product and sent me creditcard number ,exp, even cvv number via email !! which tipped me off and called and Master card froud center and found out that Name/Address he gave me was wrong .  I acutally wanted to get some help with the Credit card company to catch these crooks by shipping dummy stuff but the CC froud department blew me off stating that they will further investigate !! Ya right !! and wher is your FCC ("Don't be an idiot"post) who has strict rules on who uses this relays.  

For retail owners, Tips: always ask for shiping address and billing address. Call your CC merchent number and get the offering Bank ph# and call the bank to verify the Billing address and the ph#.

If it sounds too good to be true then it probably isn't true.

I run an automotive repair facility.  They said they wanted to give me a credit card and for me to run it for $2,980 for repairs and western union them $1,980 back and keep $1,000. They wanted to tow it from arkansas to where i am...NC. The number they gave me was in Aurora, CO.  It is a SCAM!!!

they called my company to order stuff. I called I711.com and they said there system has been busted by nigerians. they even sent me a stolen credit card number which i reported to the card company watch out!

Called my place of business which is a bank and when I informed them there is a specific number hearing impared callers must dial they disconnected. Scam call. Be careful.

This is definitely a scam!  Received a call today to my business supposedly from someone in Taiwan wanting to pay for his order.  We do not do business with ANYONE from Taiwan.

The voice sounded robotic and incoherent.  Kept me on the phone for a while trying to get some info from me.  Beware!

THIS NUMBER CALLED ME ABOUT AN AD THAT I HAD FOR SALE ON A WEBSITE, PRETENDED TO BE IMPAIRED AND THEN ASKED FOR EMAIL AND KEPT ASKING FOR PERSONAL INFO. IT IS A SCAMMER BEWARE!!!!!!

Received a phone call from this number from someone in Pennsylvania wanting to ship area rugs to our company located in Iowa and wanted to pay with a credit card and would pay for shipping both ways. Would not give out name, number, or address and hung up before we were able to get any information. BIG TIME SCAM!!! Come on who is going to ship area rugs 3-4 states away from where you supposedly live!

Called the restaurant where I work wanting to placed an order for 150 for an item we don't even carry. They have called twice in the past month under two different names. Too weird. We didn't submit the order. Has to be a scam!!!

In response to what this person said, I must say that they are blowing smoke out of their you know what.  This particular number IS a relay number but when I called it it said to call Bill America at 866-367-3103 which I did.  It's a recording saying your call can not go through, etc.  SO, this is a scam or prank or whatever.  

I placed an ad in our local newspaper to see 2 horses.  I received this phone call with a message to email Jane Cole <jan14732@yahoo.com>.  I did and received an email saying they were from New York and would send their agent with a cashiers check or money order for the horses.  Also said it would be for more than that and that I was to give the extra money to the Agent.  I had told her what the price of the horses was in the email (and it was in the newspaper), but in her email she wanted to know the price.  Very strange.  Definitely a scam.  I have written back and said the only type of payment I would accept is Postal money order or cash and that if I didn't hear back from them I'd know it was a scam.  So, there you go!!
