They call leaving a threatening message on our house number with a case number.  When I call back, they ask for someone who does not live here.  When I explain there is no one by that name here they hang up on me.  Scam company!

As Of November 6th 2013 M.Callaghan and Associates is no longer in business. CEO Mark Buyer is being Sued again by the NYS Attorney General for violating the FDCPA. The CEO let go of his entire office without paying his employees. Mark Buyer is a negligent business owner with no degree.  Please File all Complaints with the NYS Attorney General, BBB and Federal Trade Commission.

gotten several calls from this number threatening and telling me they have a file number and I should be in court the same day they called me. Said I owe them $1,120.00. They also said that they were with a law firm
called Callahan and Associates spoke with two different people.They said there names one is Terry wilson
and the other is Anthony Morris.

This is a SCAM.  never pay them anything. NEVER.   report to your state's States Atty's office and www.IC3.gov.

The best thing to do is contact the following: FBI, Federal Trade commission, and the FCC (Federal communication Commision) Give them as much information as you can about the caller, and save any voice recordings of them or messages they leave. If you have something for them to work with they might be more inclined to work with you. And yes they are getting your information from payday loan sites, and from fishing e-mails you might get saying you have inherited money, or you have won an internet lottery, or that someone has died with the same last name as you and as the account manager of this dead person they want to work out the details of getting millions of dollars to you. When you get these DON'T EVEN OPEN THEM. There is a tracking script at the bottom that gives them your name, phone #'s and your e-mail addresses. And yes they are calling from #'s that can't be traced, and often they are even calling from other countries.

I recvd the VM msg today and they left a msg on my cell and home #.  Saying the exact same msg that my name and ss# has been involved in some fraudulent matter and that I need to call them back asap.  I'm sure from reading other post that this is an attempt to settle a payday loan since I have used a payday svc in the past.  I never called them back

I recieved call as well
866-402-4043 with ref # stating that ss# and identity is at stake. Maybe fraudulant activity.

I have received several messages from 866-402-4043. It is a recording for someone else threatening legal action if they don't call. I called and got ahold of a rude woman and she said she would remove my #. I wish I could find out if they are local so I could pay them a visit with Mr "Ruger".

i got the same thing happen to me but he called from 888-276-7203.  i called my attny and the state attny general right away.  my attny said a real attny would never do that.  he is indead a scammer.  somewhere in the new york area they think.  they are hunting for him from the sound of it.  i am simply gonna change my cell number so i get off their scam list.  he uses a gruff authoritative voice.

Get a Real Job? Collectors have no salary cap. Plus on average they make double if not triple Min Wage.

Everyone who receives a call from these scum bags needs to report them them to the FTC,BBB and their state attorney general all of this can be done on-line and only takes a few minutes of your time. Take a few minutes to read the Fair Debt Collection Practises At and know your right against debt collector's. Always request a debt validation letter be sent to you via the US mail(no e-mail). They are required to send you that letter per the FDCPA. If you want them to stop calling you send a cease and desist letter certified mail requesting they only contact you via the US mail.They must comply with your request. Do not pay M callaghan a dime they are tring to scam you out of your money. Contact the priginal creditor see if they really did turn this over to them to collect(I doubt they did). These scammer's keep doing this because people keep giving them what they want...MONEY. I think if you owe a debt you should pay it but only to a legitimate collector. Please know your rights and fight back. Don't let M Callaghan scare you into paying them especially if you haven't verified you owe the debt...and one more thing you can't go to jail for oweing a debt so if they try that on you tell them to f--- off.

They have been calling my house looking for my father who I DO NOT speak to.  He lives an hour away from me.  I don't even have my maiden name anywhere that involves my married name nor on any bills so they couldn't have tracked me that way.  They wouldn't even give me a name of the company or anything.  I said "I am his daughter and he doesn't live here."  They said, "Do you speak?"  And I said "No but I will gladly give you his real address and phone number!"  And the woman hung up on me.  I am so pissed!

Never pay for a debt unless you have it in writing.  Debt collectors have to provide to you in writing proof that you owe a debt.  You can write your state attorney general about this scam and that you paid $400 and that it probably did not go to the original debtee.  This so called company is a documented scammer so I'm fairly certain you will prove your point to the state atty general.  In the future, be sure you don't pay these creeps anything more.  And yes, you can close your bank account and open a new one so they can't gain access to your new acct.

This place M. Callaghan & Assoc. called me in December saying that i will be prosecuted for the amount I owe on 2 payday loans that I cannot afford. They threatened me and I got scared, I have paid them over $400.00 and now that i see they are a scam. i want to close my account. Can I close my account? My sister works for a lawyer and is looking into my state laws. I believe they are unauthorized & illegal to practice in my State.

Fixing things one collector at a time.

I started getting calls from these people about 6 months ago (from 317-759-2061) and then the number changed to 866-402-4043 when I complained to my state attorney general.  They're calling me from the 866 number now so I complained to my state ag.  I also filed a complaint with the FTC.  I told them the first time I talked to them that I needed written proof that I owed a debt, they refused, said they were attorneys and didn't have to do that "THAT Indiana state law says they are not obligated to follow the FDCPA rules".  Whatever.  I talked to some guy named Cory Miller who indicated that my bank was having me arrested today.  I didn't know banks could do that.  THEN he asked me for my bank account number, my ss# and my drivers license #.  Said he could keep me out of jail IF I PAID THEM $4000 immediately.  He's an idiot.

These people are scam artists.  In fact, they are being sued by the state of NY just for their malicious nasty calls.  Write a letter to your state attorney general and report them. They cannot arrest you for a debt.

They did not get ur info from the sky, it's safe to day you took out a payday Loan or a cash advance. PAY UR BILLS LADY.

I am getting the same calls myself. I think they got my information when I applied for a pay day loan. I work for attorneys and I know the laws regarding collections (I have been a collector for nearly 15 years)and they violate it in everyway possible. Do not give them a penny. It is a complete SCAM. Do not verify your information or return their call.

I've been receiving calls from this place for over a year.  I called them today, several times and talked to different people each time.  All but one lady were rude and cut me off.  They don't even have my name right and I thought it was just a mistake but now I believe this is some type of scam.  One person told me since I liked to play games and call them they would put me back on their system.  So I kept calling over and over until a nicer lady supposedly removed my number again.  Also when you ask for their names they either cut you off immediately or say it so fast you can't understand them, after asking them to spell it out since they can't seem to speak clear English they hang up.  Nice people out there.

HI. I GET A PHONE CALL FROM MY MOMMA SAYING THAT I WAS TO CALL CATHERINE PORTER AT 8664024043 REGARDING A BANK FRAUD PIN. THEY LEFT A MESSAGE ON HER MACHINE NOT SAYING THEY WERE ATTEMPTING TO COLLECT A DEBT. WHEN I CALLED THE NUMBER THIS MORNING I ASKED FOR HER INSTEAD I SPOKE TO A MAN NAMED "ADAM" AND HE HAD MY SOCIAL AND MY BANKING INFORMATION. I ASKED FOR INFORMATION IN WRITING TO MY EMAIL ADDRESS AND HAVE YET TO RECEIVE IT , WHEN I ASKED ABOUT IT, HE TALKING BOUT THE PROCESS DEPT SEND IT "1ST COME 1ST SERVE". GOOD THING I DID NOT GIVE HIM MY MAIN INFORMATION I USUALLY USE AND GOOGLED IT IN TIME SO THEY WONT GET MY MONEY.

I DID SENT THE PAYDAY LOAN I DO OWE THE LINK TO THE WEBSITE OF THE SCAM, AND I TOLD THEM I WILL PAY THEM NOT NO COLLECTION AGENCIES.

Just gota call from this number saying if i dont call back within 24hours leagal action would be taken th then said an afidavid number is connected to mychecking accountlicense and ssn. This strikes me as odd since i do not have a checking account.

i just got this call and stated I needed to call back in 24 hours with regards to fraud on my checking account. If I did not call they would be blocking my use of my account. Not my bank..Caller was female.

Just got a pre recorded call from Kathrine porter, looking for my uncle saying something about his checking account. First off my uncle does not have a checking account nor has had one in years, saying he must call back asap, well thats not going to happen, left a 866-402-4043 number, but used a number from alabama to call..............low lifes need to get a real job

Just got a call today for the 1st time with this 1-866-402-4043 number.. Saying pretty much the same as everyone else on here.. Kathryn Porter and fraud and gave me a reference number said to have my attorney contact them ASAP. The funny thing is call came to my phone as a "blocked" call! Right there it's instant scam!!

Hey Mr. Reynolds you are obviously a scammer and the dead beat debt collector who couldn't get a real job so you decided to try ripping people off. Show me proof of any debt I owe and I'll be happy to pay it. You can't do that because your company is not legit. Hell you are calling me and I'm not even the person you are looking for. I told that ignorant woman you have working with that ten times she got rude and hung up. I had to file a complaint with the BBB to get the calls to stop. Everyone please check out the BBB website on these low life's 124 complaints none of them good. So Mr.Reynolds I pay my bills and work hard for my money the same can't be said about you.

11/9/12 Got same message twice from Kathy Porter.  I work with attorneys and they confirmed that it is DEFINITELY A SCAM!!!!  Don't respond to this person or the company. File a complaint with the FTC!!!  DO NOT RETURN THEIR CALLS AND IGNORE ANYUMBERS YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH!!

I got a call from 866-402-4043 and Rebecca left a message saying I am being charged with fraud for a check.  I have no idea who these people are.

I received a message on my cell phone stating that "they" needed to hear from me within 24 hours or "they
would be forced to make a decision on my behalf.  The rest of the message did not record.  I called the number from a blocked number and found out the name.  M Callahan and Associates.

I received a threatening call yesterday on my cell and another one on a old phone # (my mother?s home).  I was told that if I didn?t call this # 877-252-0532 right away, a judgment for defrauding a financial institution with a bad check would be filed against me. With or without my response they would proceed and I would have to obtain legal representation. I don?t write very many checks, so I immediately knew it was a scam. I looked online and as I suspected, it was. My other concern was, that is was one of those #'s you call and get charged for. Be careful out there, people are scandalous.
