June or July on a thur 2009, male caller saying: personal message from Southern Recovery Dept. call Mr. Lewis # 1-866-428-6589

June 7, 2009 Female caller asked for James Cox Jr. a Debt Collection from Michigan. I said-Person not at this number and asked for our number to be taken off the list. On June 16,2009 a male caller  asking for James Jr. and Renee, a Debt Collection, call Mr.Lewis at this # 866-428-6589.

This number keeps calling me at work and leaving msgs with my assistant. The person will not tell my assistant what the call is in regards to but, says it's a personal business matter and she needs to return the call.  They have been calling for 3 weeks now with pretty much the same msg type. The number on the caller id comes up as aa 407-347-???? but the person always leaves the 8664286589 number.  I checked and it's related to a Portfolio Recovery Associates a debt collection. I don't know how legit they are but they need to stop calling my place of work.

DO NOT TALK TO THESE PEOPLE. They are a SCAM!!! Anyone identifying theirselves as Portfolio Recovery Associates is a phishing scam. I contacted the Secret Service about them and they said they are looking in to it. Also, if these people call you I would get a 90 credit alert put on your credit report just to be safe. They have phished some of your info from somewhere and are trying to complete it by talking to you. Don't fall for it. They call telling me I owe 13K on a credit card from 1997. I was in the Army then and I never ever had a credit card in my life (only debit). So, they lied!

A woman called from this number asking for a family member who doesn't live here.  She said she has some "business matter" to discuss with our family member, and refused to give any details. Her extension number is 11036 and the name given was "Carson". Since our family member is 86 years old, with no debts, we believe this is a scam targeting elderly people. Thanks

They called me this morning and left a message to call them back at this number. The person who left the message did not state where they were calling from or why, but did say "I am calling for Julie ----, if this is not Julie, please do not listen any further." How stupid. Anyway, I am sure this is a collection agency. The number comes up unknown caller on my caller ID. It is my understanding that collection agency numbers are supposed to come up on caller ID's and not say unknown, but I am going to check that after I get done writing this by going into the rules collection agencies must follow.

Congress needs to pass a law that once debt is past the statute of limitations, it is illegal to make phone calls to try to collect it - they could mail notices but they wouldn't because of the postage expense - that would stop these hooligans dead in their tracks.

Enough is enough of these borderline criminals. Write or email your congress representative now!

This company called and I told them not to call my number again.  will that work we will see.

These people called my step sons in-laws trying to get in touch with me.  I have no idea who these people are.

You people are funny first of all when a collection company doesn't leave why they are calling in a message its because they can't per the laws of fdcpa they have to verify that they are only disclosing it to the DEBTOR. And secondly legally they can call your family its called skip tracing and 99 percent of the time you use your family as references to get the money or services then you don't want them to be contacted when you don't pay... Laughable. And you may not recognize the debt they are calling for because after you defaulted on your payments it was sold to another company. Fyi the debts past the SOL can be collected on you just can't be sued soooo it is not harrassment unless you have requested a cease and desist and in that case you are a coward running from your liabilities

They called my employer and left a message to call them back at this number. Stated it was a personel business matter.  The person who left the message did not state where they were calling from or why.  Anyway, I am sure this is a collection agency. The number comes up 800-772-1413 on my caller ID. It is my understanding that collection agency numbers are not supposed to call your employer (it is illegal)

I received a call from Tiffany who tried to make it sound like she was an old high school friend of mine. Since I didn't know anyone by that name, I knew it was a ploy to get me to respond to her questions. I'll be honest and tell everyone that the debt Tiffany called about is mine, but it was from at least 10 years ago and should they persist in trying to collect, I will use the SOL rule.  I wish I could pay off this debt, but given my current financial situation I just cannot afford even a small settlement agreement.  I recommend anyone in a similar situation not release ANY information to these debt collectors as doing so will "reset the clock" to re-age the debt and the SOL rule will not apply and therefore allow them to collect.

I got a call from same number 866-428-6589, from Sherial Carter, from Portfolio Debt Collections, and this is to collect a debt, same as all the other postings, but told them to send me the information and I will be glad to pass it on to my lawyer to deal with this, and to stop calling me for every phone number that shows up on my house,  my cell phone, daughter or wife's will be dealt with through the courts system, thank you very much looking forward to the documents I will receive thank you and have a nice day and hung up.  Not more than 10 mins later, I got another phone call.  They can't be this stupid, but then again after reading all this I can see that they are.

I recived a call it was for my mom. I gave her the message. I get calls like this all the time. I just say he is dead. Its fun to FCK with theese people. I also told them if they called me again I was gong to kill them. Hey they called me If I called them and said that Now thats a different story.

Claiming I owe simply because my name is the same as someone they are trying to collect from.  Extremely rude.  I asked for a letter to confirm my information was removed from their records.  
Answer: "We WILL NOT send you a letter."  
Q: How will I be assured you have removed me from your system?  
A: "Mistakes happen, that's life."  
Q: How did you get my number?
A: "You're tying up my line."  
They called me!

I received a call here today from Bianca Mckinney to have my live in partner call her back about a "personal call". The phone number of 866-428-6589 belongs to Portfolio Recovery Associates, a debt collector. They have called before. They use deception. Sorry, Bianca you will not be hearing from him.

Someone named Gail King called from the same # ext 11140 with same story about if it is not who she asked for to stop listening. These people are relentless especially since ALL of my debts except my mortgage have been paid to zero. This is PHISHING at its finest. Geeeeesh.

this sounds like Calvary Portfolio Services....Definitely a collection company...Did you know that you can settle your debt with these people for about 30-50 cents on the dollar?

They called my parents and made it sound as if it was an absolute emergency that they get a hold of me. having settled all my debt five years ago and currently carry no credit cards I would really like to know who these people are. Fortunately my mother refused to give them my number unless they say why they were calling.

This company has consistantly called me for a year now about a debt that has been paid for 3 years. Well today they crossed the line they started calling family members.

Got a call from "Nicole".  Terribly rude, inarticulate, and has the worst phone manners I've ever heard.  Did not give company name, just her first name and a number, which wasn't even the number that came up on the Caller ID.

Today it was "Toni". They asked for someone other than me. Then they asked me if I was that persons husband. Twice. Duh?
To even pass along a message to someone I know, I require A name with an ID#, Company name, Message, and Callback number. If I don't get all of that, I don't give the message as it is a bogus message.

Called my parents number and asked for me saying I had given them my parents number to get a hold of me. Not True! I never give out my number or numbers of family members. The woman said her name was Ms. Rollins and to return the call at 866-428-6589 ext.11150 She wouldn't tell my parents what the call was about. Probably some type of scam Identity theft, or major charges on your phone bill if you call it back not sure not going to risk it.

They've left messages for me repeatedly at work.. This morning it was "Mr Knight" at ext 11348. I never return the calls.. and Per the comment left about statute of limitations on debt, for most debt, its 6 years... there is information (along with form letters) available all over the net that you can print and send to these people -if the debt is even real.  Or, simply say you are dealing with the original creditor and they are required by law to stop calling.. whether its been turned over to them or not.

Been getting strange calls from other non-800 numbers lately too..

Got a call, 2 days in a row, from a Ms. Rogers at extension 11010.  Would not disclose what this was about, so I refuse to call her back.  I have no idea what this is about, and not planning to find out

I got a call at work from Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC. They left me a message on my voice mail. I called back and asked them what it was about. They said I owed money from 1995 and they wanted to collect it. Are they kidding. I hung up on them told them I do not owe anyone money. Just don't call this number back. Did they ever hear of Statute of Limitations. They are a scam company. Don't fall into the trap and send money you don't owe.

JUST DON'T TALK TO THEM OR GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION.

These clowns called me as well. Some debt that I never even heard of from some unknown company. Definitely some sort of scam or fishing expedition. Her name was "Ms. Casey" and she was very nasty. I calmly told her to take her attitude, as well as her scam, and cram it deeply into the bodily orifice of her choice!

I received an answering machine message from a person who identified themselves as 'Lisa Flauter' from Portfolio Recovery Associates, said 'this is an attempt to collect a debt', and to return the call to 866-428-6589, extension 11103.  No need to repeat the information from the postings below, but this company has many (MANY) different 800, 866 & 877 numbers as well as many different ficticous caller's names they use to dupe individuals into returning their calls. Just be aware that anytime you call an '800' number, your number shows up on their caller ID.
