Somebody keeps calling me from this number several times a day, looking for my room mate... when I called them and asked what this was about the yelled at me.  I am sick and tired of getting these calls.  I told the guy I was going to report him if he called one more time.  He has harrassed me for the last dang time.  They say they are a collection agency but won't give a company name.

I get a call once a day from this number.  When I answer I get a recorded message that it is not a sales call and it is about an important business matter.  They do not identify themselves.  If I don't answer they leave a message on my voice mail to return a call to this number and give a reference number 8816619. I tried calling this number a couple of times but got another recording.  I am really tired of getting these calls.  I am listed on the national do not call list but that doesn't seem to matter to them.

Called me several times before but has yet to leave a message. I have registered with the do not call list but still manage to get calls from some fund raising groups (firefighters, police, etc.) however I can not give to everyone plus there are so many scams these days I prefer not to give by phone at all. I got tired of dealing with these calls so if the call is from any 800 or 866 number I do not answer it anymore. I decided to google this number to see if it would come up as something and found all sorts of information on this number. I am glad I didn't answer it...lol. Good lord scam artist go above and beyond these days. As of late I have tried to educate my self about some of these credit issues after receiving a letter in the mail. Mine was from CBCS trying to collect a debt from Sprint overing me a "settlement" offer . The only problem is I am currently with Sprint and not past due by any means. So I called the number in the letter to try and find out what it was. I had to enter my phone number to be connected to the appropriate person regarding my account. Of course they couldn't find it (not too strange since I had a new land line). So when I finally got a human she asked the phone number and couldn't find any information. She then asked if I had a reference # from my letter. I gave it to her and she told me the debt was from Sprint which of course I told her no I am with Sprint and current on my bill, that there must be some mistke. She said no this is a sprint home long distance bill from 1995. 1995? It's 2008 for Christ sake are you kidding me? So of course I'm trying to think of where I lived back then. I asked her what the address was for the bill. She gave me an address that i did one live at. What she did not know is I lived in that home but nothing including the home was in my name, it was all paid for by the non profit I worked for. This was all sounding a little stranger as it goes on. She tries to get all this information from me such as work place,  work phone number, addresses, etc. I told her that this all sounded a little fishy to me and I was not giving her anymore of my personal information until I had some confirmation that this was legit. I told her I would research it and call her back. Of course she told me that would not stop the calls or attempt to collect and that the settlement offer would expire soon so I should hurry. Sounding like a pressure sales deal here huh? She even told me that if I contacted Sprint they would not have any information on the account because they had sold it to them. I made a few calls and found out that these "scam artist"/"collection agency" will goes as far as to find names and/or address from the internet of people or old landlords to try and collect debts even from people who they don't belong to. Now mind you this was a small bill I could have paid $40 and been done with it. Here is my thought if they got 50 people to pay $40 a week that is a pretty damn good income. Some debts are legit and some are not but even legit debts have a statue of limitations. So I sent a certified (formal )letter to this "company" requesting that they provide an original (itemized) bill proving that I owed this money, proof that they owned the debt, proof that they are licensed to collect in my state (incl. their lic.# & registered agent)and proof that the Statue of Limitations had not expired on this debt. All of which are legally required for them to provide to me under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I also told them to not contact me by phone in the future to only contact me by USPS by the address provided to them in the letter. I quickly received a letter saying they would no longer be contacting me about the debt and they had referred it back to the previous owners. I wonder if that is who these people calling are. Guess I should answer it and get myself and address and find out, and send them a lovely certified letter as well. Maybe even send a letter by mail and fax now requesting that stop calling my number now. I also tried calling back the number and got a recording saying they were closed, that gave the hours of operation, but I was calling during those hours.

These jerks keep calling, even after sending a letter to stop communications and verify the debt.  They started calling me in August 2008 for a debt in 1994 for AT&T Broadband.  I told her that broadband did not exist to the homeowner in 1994 and that I did not owe this debt, plus this debt was past the "statue of limitations".  Even after mailing the letter certified mail, I received another call yesterday.  I just filed a complaint with the FTC and with the Do Not Call Registry.  Like other people have said, do not pay these clowns ONE dime.

The thing that threw up a red flag for me is this is something that had never been on my credit report and I bill that I never remember having. I mean it was a long time ago who knows I could have forgotten something, don't think so, but still to quote funnyinld "...um hello Statue of limitations?"

Consumers be aware if something is past Statue of Limitations DO NOT PAY IT!! You are opening yourself up for a lot of problems. You can go to any of the 3 major credit bureaus and get information on your rights. Also you can go to www.annualcreditreport.com and get a free copy of your report from each agency. You are allowed 1 per year for each agency through this service. And yes it is free there is no catch to it. It is a good idea to look at your credit to see if there is anything on there that is incorrect.
