Yes, it is the Corporate offices of H & R Block- But, this is the suspicious part- Spoke to "Bruce" and would not disclose why he called until I gave him my full name, address, my birthdate and last four digits of my SS #- Which is totally out of the question for me to provide that kind of sensitive information- Told Bruce if there is a problem, I will contact my accountant and have her get in touch with them- He agreed- I called the office I used and was notified that the 866-499-1271 is legit, but there was nothing wrong with my electronic filing- Again, today I received another call from the 866 #- Very strange- My advice to anyone who receives a call from this number is to go directly to your preparer or your nearest office- Hope this has been helpful-

FYI, this is a valid H&R Block phone number. I just called the number on H&R Block's website, they said that it is a valid number, and you should talk to them - it could be something up with your taxes, or it could be a courtesy call to thank you for using them.

If you're skeptical like me - do what I did: go to their website, call them, verify the number!

I received a call today from 866-499-1271.guy said he was from H&R Block and that i needed to verify info because there was an error with my filing. I did verify my name, name address, and last 4. he told me he believed there was a problem with my social security #, but for security reasons, could not ask more than the last 4. He asked me if i wanted him to set an appt for me  to  return to the store i had filed with, or if i wanted to contact them  myself. As  the IRS had my taxes on stand by until the issue is fixed. I called the person who prepared my taxes,she said if it was a scam, I would be safe as long as i did not give out any of my emerald card info. She they checked the status of my W2,and low and behold, there was an issue.
I had filed 2 jobs W2's. one of which had my SS# wrong, and she did not catch that when she filed them. So there was a problem.

I received a telephone call from 18664991271. It went to voice mail and the man left a message that said he was from HR BLOCK and to return his call. When I returned the call he asked for last four digits of social security number, name and wanted me to give other information. I told him he needed to explain what he needed. He said he couldnt until I gave him the information. I told him I would call my local office and talk to the person that filed my taxes.

They said they were H&R Block and ask for my FULL SSN!

i know they say they were h&r block.i am still trying to find out if it is true or not.they asked for the last 4 of my social and my full name.I gave that.then they asked for my DOB and I asked them why they were calling.she told me if i felt uncomfortable giving that to call my local h&r block office.the funny thing is that i work there and nobody has called me from that office.usually if i there is a problem,they call me right away.i am too lazy to go there today because i am off,so i guess i will find out tomorrow.

They said that they wher from h&r block and said that ther was a mess up on the taxes and they need my name. My last 4 degits of my social security number and my address. It was H&R block. It wasn't a scam. There was an IRS error. My tax lady called and 15 minutes later, the 1-866-499-1271 numer called and asked for the last 4 of my social, name and address. They told me the same thing my tax lady said and asked if i wanted them to set up an appointment with my tax lady but i told her I had JUST set it up.

I have received 2 such calls from the same number.  The first time I answered the call.  I asked why she needed that information and why she was calling.  She told me that she was calling either because there was an error on my tax forms or it was simply a courtesy call.  Why did she not know the reason for her call?

She did tell me that she was calling from the Kansas City HQ office and said I should call my tax preparer to see what the problem was.  I did contact my tax preparer, and she said she did not know why anyone from HRB HQ would be calling me.

Further, I know for a fact that my forms have NOT been filed with the IRS yet.  So there is no known error, at least not yet.

I received a 2nd call yesterday from the same number.  It left a message on my answering machine; I will not return the call.
