Debt Collector
They called my parents relentlessly, when I had not lived there for several years. I finally answered the phone, acting like I am someone else (they had been asking for me). They would not tell my parents who they were with or their purpose, but I work for a living so its not my first rodeo with debt collectors. They asked and asked if I was who they were looking for, I finally got them to state they were debt collectors and then I spoke with them. They claim they record all of their calls, so I made it clear with a crisp voice they are not to call anyone but me, and if I don't answer, that is their problem. Then, I demanded they give me their local address in Colorado and licensing information (its a right under Colorado law), they would not give it to me, it was ecalated to a supervisor and they speak in newspeak circles. Whenever I ask a yes or no question they use a repeated and scripted verse to try and redirect to my responsibility. I told them if I hear "you fault" once I hang up and get an attorney. I'm not an idiot, I know debt is my fault and you aren't there to teach me any responsibility. In any case, they would not give me the info so I hung up. They called back several days later with the number and a better negotiation. Point being, don't be nice, they will be rude to you, treat them the way they treat you. Threaten them with legal action. Whenever you say you disagree with their amount they respond "Well, then I will just enter you as non-compliant and begin the process of filing a lien". THEY CAN'T THREATEN LEGAL ACTION THEY ARE NOT GOING TO ACTUALLY TAKE. That is the second violation of the FC Act. Next, they never actually do it, my debt was student loan based and I basically told them to dissappear, they threatened, nothing happened. Record all the information you get from them, compile it, being explcit about what they say, and hire a consumer advocate attorney. They are the worst kind of people.

This number appeared on our caller ID.  When I called it back it said if we received a letter enter those numbers otherwise press 2.  When you press 2 it asks for your phone number and last 4 digits of SS to verify your acct.  when you enter that info it said this is from a debt collector and it will transfer you to a representative.  The line goes blank and you are cut off.  I called back this number this morning and a rep answers stating they called this number looking for our neighbor, who we have no neighbor with the name they are looking for.  This seems so much like a scam...

I was unaware that you need a college degree to make a decent living in this country. I can picture the type of person you are, you went to college because mommy and daddy went to college, they paid for it, you are a liberal piece of crap that believes you are god's gift to the world, and you have absolutely no common sense. You also rely on people that don't have college degree's more than you believe, and you think that those people actually rely on you. If you are of higher education then you probably work a job that people could live without or would be better off without people like you. People like me build your house, pickup your garbage, drive your kids to school, watch your kids at daycare, maintain your house, fix your car, and do every other job that you think you are too good for. What I am sick of is white collar scum bags like you, thinking you're better than everyone who didn't go to college. The other problem is... what if everyone did go to college, THERE WOULDN'T BE ENOUGH JOBS! so shut your snobby f**king face! If I knew you I would kick the living sh*t out of you.

RAB, inc does what they call skip trace. They get a copy of your credit report and skip trace your name, address and phone numbers listed as a relative or reference. They call these people and ask questions like where you work, do they have an alternate ph # for you, what hours you work. Are you married, do they know how to get in touch with your spouse or other family members. they will call your neighbors and ask them to leave a message on your door or give you the message in your hand. Not only that they do not treat their employees fair either. Therefore, what do you think they are going to do for their cleints accounts.

These jack***es called me asking for some Tashequa or some crap. I told them they had the wrong number and that's when they ticked me off. First it was "well do you have a number that we can contact her at" and I explained that I do not know this person and have had this cell phone number for only 3 days. The guy obviously thought I tring to trick him. He continued with the questions so i hung up. The next day the same tool calls back asking for this girl and when I say that he has the wrong number he says "so we're going to play this game again". So I went through the ceiling and demanded a supervisor, he says "sure thing buddy, do me a favor and let her know that we will find her" then hangs up on me. So I'm waiting to see if this fool calls back or what.

I received a call today from Tracy Reed from this number requesting that I give a message to someone who lives way down the street from me. She implied that the call was URGENT, but would not tell me where the call was from. Only her name and this toll-free number.

I called the number back, and complained about them harassing neighbors for calls that are truly not urgent. I directly asked the girl if this was a collection agency, and she would not answer my question.

Boy, you're not kidding...  I work for a company & they keep calling & leaving messages in a general voice mail, of which about 20 numbers go into it.  I've called them before to ask them to quit calling & it stopped for a while.  Now, they're back at it again & I got the rudest person there today when I attempted to determine what number they were calling.  He said "I'm not going to go through this with you, when you get the exact number, then call back".  Well, if I had that I would have given it to him in the first place!  How ridiculous...so, I asked for a supervisor & got a nice lady, who went through the numbers & we figured out which number it was.  But, what an ordeal & waste of time.

I just received a call from Tracy wanting to talk to someone who handles HR matters at our location.   When I told her to call our corporate office she just hung up.  I did a call trace to see who the rude person was and got the same number that everyone else has been getting.  I get calls like this all day long on the switchboard each one asking for different people who don't work here any more or demanding to talk to certain department heads without knowing who they are.   Not going to happen while I'm answering the phones....

I've gotten calls from them as well; as well as about 10 other numbers, looking for someone who doesn't live here and I don't know.  Apparently this person Inez is a deadbeat as I keep getting calls for her.  I really want to know HOW my phone number is listed as hers with all these places, as I've had it for almost 5 years....could it be that she had this number before me?  Or is it too long ago?  Has me a bit worried.

I received a call from this number from some guy. he said it was about a capital one credit card. I hung up on him. he called for about 3 more days. and the calls stopped. about 6 days later I got a letter from this attorney saying that capital one was suing me for the credit card bill. the account was only about 1000 dollars. but now I have to pay about 1500 plus the court cost. I did not think that capital one would sue me over 1000 dollars. and i even had to pay for my attorney. I just want to warn you guys so you wont go through what i had to go through

This number has been calling my cell phone for days now, telling me that I must call them back immediately.  They even address me by my married name - I've been divorced for 15 years.  Insane.  Probably something that my ex never paid off.

This person identifies herself as Catherine Parker. She calls looking for my daughter and leaves messages on our answering machine. The message always warns that it is urgent that she call right away. On one occasion I actually talked with the person. She asked for my daughters phone number. When I asked, "Before I give you her number, may I ask what this is about?" she got very "snappy" with me and hung up. When my daughter did return the call she could not get anyone to tell her what they wanted. When I talked with the woman on the one occasion I heard lots of voices in the background.

I receive a call from these people all the time.  I have a credit card account that has fallen into collections, I am very aware of this, so thank you very much "Ro" for the oh so very insightful comment you left.  You are probably one of the many losers who work for a collection agency, probably even RAB, because you lack a college education and/or have a criminal record and they are the only people who will hire you.

As for everyone else, collectors cannot call you at work if you ask them not to contact you there.  It is the law.  Ask them to not bother you at work, if they call you again at the work number, they are breaking FDCPA laws.  If you explain that they are calling you at an inconvenient place or time (ex. WORK), they ARE IN VIOLATION OF THE LAW.

For the benefit of the person identified above at ro posted April 25, 2008 who said
you guys most owe a lot of money ha ha ha. your all a bunch of losers.  I got a call tonight from this company asking if I lived at a specific address to which I informed him I did not and had never lived there.  I told him it appeared he was from a collection agency and did not have the right to call me and harass me because I had the same name.  Then he asked if my birthday was in February and it is not.  I got madder and told him he did not have the right to call my number over someone else's debts and I was not the person he was looking for and asked for his supervisor.  To which he informed me that I needed to take it up with the Sharon Hill they were looking for because he said she gave them my phone number.  If that were the case this would not be the first time I received a call about it.  In any event, people don't need to owe a lot of money to receive these harassing phone calls they only need to share the same name and to suggest that we are a bunch of losers just shows you level of ignorance.  Personally I'd much rather be a loser than ignorant.
