Get repeated calls from them claiming that I have errors and viruses on my computer. And they want to access my computer to help me. I asked why McAfee wasn't picking up on it and they gave me some poor excuse. The call came from a man claiming to be Benjamin Miller but had an accent that sounded like he was from India. I googled the number they called me from and found this site so I hung up immediately. I immediately got repeated calls back from them which I did not answer. Thank you for this page. Saved me some headaches.

I was trying to take a short nap. A call came in from  Arizona. The guy claimed that my computer has been hacked and sending error messages to the windows global security server.  I was stupid enough to follow their instructions and even allowed them access to my computer. To prove the authenticity of his call he showed me how to find my registration number and read it to me. He said that only the security server and I know the registration # and therefore I should never give it to anyone. I sensed something was not right, but  was dumbed enough to access their  website and clicked the download button. Not until the so called registration manager trying to sell me two years or life time support I used my iPhone to google their phone number and found the post of the scam. I immediately turned off my computer and hung up on them. But, I am afraid that they might have copied my files from my computer. How do I rectify the problem now?

Called by Adam Clark in Windows Technical Department who said my computer was compromised and they needed to fix it. Thick accent. Same pitch as many of the previous posts. He gave me above number to call back and I searched it and found this site.

I got a call today from these guys.  My caller ID said the number was 520-877-3528 from Tucson, AZ.  A guy with a thick Indian accent told me he was from Microsoft Windows technical support and that my computer was attacking their server continuously.  He needed to fix my machine right away.  As he began to bark commands to me, I interrupted him.  You could hear a room full of people talking in the background.  They were very close together.  I pointed out that I had no way of knowing that he wasn't a hacker himself and asked him for his phone number.  He said, 'of course' and gave me 866-539-8674.  I asked him where he was.  He told me California.  Wanting to compare with 'Tucson' I asked him *where* in California.  He began to unravel.  He blurted out that they didn't give out that information.  Maybe he didn't know any cities in CA.  So, I told him I'd call him back in a little while.  Then I hung up and looked up the phone number he gave me and it turns out that this is a several-years-old scam.  What bothers me is not that the scam is still going on, years later.  It's that they're still using the same 866 number.  Why hasn't either the FCC or the phone company shut at least this number down yet?

Later, I wished I'd thought to (conspiratorially) tell him that I thought I recognized his voice.  Wasn't he the Nigerian prince that I spoke with last year?  I was beginning to wonder when the coast was going to be clear enough for him to call back with where I should send the cash... etc.  Oh, well.

caller id'd self as a rep with Windows Virus and Security Solutions Center providing hacker protection, etc. and wanted to have my email info and give him access/entry to my computer.  He said that if I declined the service they would have to shut down my windows acct.  I declined the service, got his "name" and contact info and would be checking him out before I allowed him access.  He became somewhat agitated and the call was terminated by me.

Very similar experience here.  Man with thick accent named "James Wright" call me saying that some hacker was using my computer to attack their servers, and they could tell me how to stop the hacker.  And they would do this all offline.  I immediately started asking questions.  He gave his ID# as 1075 (whoopee) and his company was WIndows Based Help (sounded like Windows Best Help when he said it but I had him spell it).  I asked for his supervisors named and number and he refused, giving me only the toll free number 866-539-8674,  I asked where he was located -- Singapore.  I asked if they are affiliated with Microsoft and he said no.  He said Microsoft just manufactures computers and he was with Windows support, at which point I even more suspicious.  I asked "How do I know you are not a hacker?" and he said   I had misconceptions.  I told him I would have the police call him and check them out.  Call ended shortly after that.

if u think that its a scam, then its a scam indeed. but let me tell u that the guys calling u up are not aware about the fact that they r going to b a part of a big scam. those guys are innocent. they just do this only because of earning money for their familly. now u r thinking that why dont they find any other job suitable to  them..... the reason is unemployement.
there is large mass of educated frshers but the no. of vaccancies at genuine companies are very few in numbers. as a result a huge amount of litterates remain unemployed. after that they only hav the option to move towards so called scams... therefore i request to please do not hate them.. i request to all of the people reading out this post that "if u can provide a job oppurtunity to these guys, they will do much better than u expect"... i guarantee it..

My turn at 5:29 AM PST!  I snatched up the phone and answered.  The Indian called asked for my husband by name.  Already sensing a scam from the 202-011-3341 caller ID #, I demanded to know who was calling at 5:29 AM and what company he was calling from.  Same Windows Best Help and he was calling at that hour because it "was an EMERGENCY."  I think he believed that dribble.  He kept telling me to turn on my computer (which I was actually working on and not sleeping like I said) and I asked him what number he was calling from "1-866-539-8674"...sound familar?  I said I wasn't doing anything until I did some checking..."CLICK!"  Then, I searched the web for Windows Best Help, and found all of you lovely people.  I also called the FCC and FTC and reported them.  Maybe we should all contact our local news stations and flood the US with news of this scam.  They were late getting to the West!

Yes I had the pleasure of "Sam" calling me from Windows "Help" today. Yes my computer was being hacked and I had to speak with a Senior Windows "tech". I advised "Sam" that I am a Fraud Inspector for our State Attorney's General Office and gave him my Office Number. Needless to say I did NOT receive a return call.

I have been receiving calls from (866) 539-8674 first I was told that my computer had a virus, second person said that my windows program had been corrupted and on the third call I was told that my computer had been hacked on all occasions I asked for a company name and number and the number remained the same, however the company name did not.

I called the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) at (888) 225-5322 and spoke to a person who told me that I needed to call the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) at (877) 382-4357. I called and briefly explained what happened. The person was very appreciative of the call and gave me a claim number.

It is important that we spent a few minutes and report this company as there are many people who they will be able to harm with their false statement.

Please make sure to call the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) at (877) 382-4357 and report your call.

Someone called my husband, who is totally ignorant about computers claiming ours "had a virus," and it was an emergency."  I was ill, so he had answered our business phone. He came running up to the house with this number to call at once. Obviously a phishing sceme of some kind. Do not fall for this, folks!

I got a call July 11,2013 from a Johny Williams from Windows global support call center. Same story about hackers trying to access my computer. He wanted me to turn on my computer and he would have a tech walk me through some steps to stop whoever was hacking my computer. I asked to speak to a supervisor. He said his supervisor was tied up at the moment. I told him I didn't believe his story and asked him for a phone number so I could call back and verify he was from Windows. I got the 866-539-8674 number and he asked that I call him back in the next 15 minutes. I told him OK I would. I never called back but my phone rang several times throughout the day and know one left a message. Guess he kept on trying to contact me again.
I am glad this forum is here and that this info is getting out to everyone.

Some guy named Steve Wattson called, with an Indian accent.  I suspect he was imitating the accent, as it was not convincing.  Tip #1.  He had my name and address, and said that he was calling to disable one of my computers with an illegal copy of Windows.  I'm suspicious of anyone knowing what kind of tech I own, so I denied having a computer with Windows.  I asked him for his supervisors name and phone number and that I would call back.  He gave the 866-539-8674 number, ext. 20092.  He tried to get me on the phone with a "supervisor", but I hung up when he transferred the call.  The background sounded like a busy call center.  I wonder if that was the case, or background music to make it sound like a real call center.

Yup, scam company.  Aggressive but I had fun pretending.  Unbelievable and I can see how someone who is not technically literate could get sucked in the sense of "urgency" that my computer has been hacked.  Oy, what a world we live in.

I received a call on the 25th on June 2013 and the called said that he is from windows best help.  I said I didn't have time to talk to him and he asked for another time and I said I would be free the following day.  His name is Jack Williams and he is not an American, must be an Indian from India. He said my computer is hacked and walked me through and said he is fixing it with my permission and it will cost me $80; not being a computer person, I thought I must take care of this and finally he said I owe him $225!! when this person called , my caller ID said Private caller.  Be careful when you get a call. I should have known that it is someone trying to cheat me!

Received call this a.m. stating they had been receiving errors in past 2 wks showing problems with my hard disk and that my computer had been hacked. He had a very thick accent - maybe West Indian. So he didn't get very far in his spiel because I couldn't understand him and he got frustrated repeating everything. I asked for a phone number and what I heard was 866-539-5674 instead of 8674 and he hung up which surprised me.
