It's a scam. 100%

This actually is Bank of America. They called a few times and then left me a message. The voicemail sounds pretty shady, but immediately afterwards I also got an email alert and an alert via my BofA Android app.
This is legitimate, but to be safe just call the 800 customer service number on the back of your card.

This is not a scam number. We called the number on our card and they verified this number, as well as fraudulent purchases that were made on our card..
anon 2013-03-16 18:57:11 Unknown
After seeing the mixed responses here, I decided to call the customer service number on the back of my card instead. I did have to give my last four digits, pin and expiration date and then got routed to verify an automated listing of my last few transactions, which were fine in my case, but did "look" strange because they include a couple of larger amounts for two large purchases at one store within a few minutes. I never had to use the 866-559-0025 number because I was automatically routed to the fraud protection feature via customer service.

This is NOT a scam. I have been planning a trip to Disney and I entered my BofA credit card on Disney's website confirming our trip to be used for incidentals when we check in. They charged $1 on my card to make sure the credit card is active and open to be used. BofA contacted me asking me to verify the charge. This number 866-559-0025 is BofA's fraud detection service for your credit card!

Received a message to call this number due to fraudulent activity on my cc ending in xxxx. Called the number and entered my billing zip code. Recording provided a transaction amount, date, and business name; however, I could not understand the business name. I called 800 number on back of my cc and spoke to a rep who confirmed my identity. He told me about the fraudulent activity and provided the same info that the recording at the 866 number gave me. Charge was fraudulent. Card was cancelled while I was on phone and rep explained the written procedure (form to complete) when I received my billing statement.

Received a call from this number yesterday, and I responded to the number on the back of the credit card. They verified the number was legit, but if you have any doubts, just respond to the number on the back of the credit card in question.

This *is* legitimate and *not* a scam.
I called Bank of America and there was indeed a fraud block. During the call to the Tel # they left on my VM, I did not have to enter any fully personal information. I entered in a "message code" they told me in the voice message along with the last 4 digits of my credit card. I then just confirmed the charges they thought were suspicious through their interactive phone system.

Not a scam. Legit BofA fraud alert.
Called the number my credit card to verify and went straight to the fraud dep't (hardly any phone tree!). Site they refer to is http://www.bankofamerica.com/myfraudprotection --- That's a BofA site.
Call the number on your card if you're unsure, of course.
jaybee 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
I am writing to clarify an earlier comment I submitted. The name on the caller ID was "cardmember services" not "Bank of America". The voice said Bank of America during the message.

Read all previous messages regarding this being a phishing scam. It is NOT. I received auto call this am. which left the 866-559-0025 number for callback. I was suspicious so I called the phone number on back of my debit card instead. BofA identified 866# as one of their direct internal lines for their fraud division. When I called it they asked for the calling code provided by the original auto call. The recording tried to go through recent charges to get my approval or denial. Couldn't understand name of company trying to make some charges as it turned out to be foreign. Called customer service line back. Turns out someone tried to buy airline tix on my AMEX card through BofA. They first sent a $1 charge from a local travel agency. When it posted (valid account number), they followed up with an attempt to buy $1500+ of airline tix from international site. BofA fraud unit caught it and denied the charge. BofA did confirm that anytime you are concerned that numbers are bogus, you should start with numbers posted on your card.

I got a call saying fraudulent activity was detected on my card and asking me to call 866-559-0025.
I instead called the number on the back of BofA Visa and got a series of menus asking for my card number, expiration, FULL 9-digit Social Security Number, date of birth, and 3-digit security code, which I declined to provide.
I presed 00 to get a live person, who only asked for the last 4 digits of my SSN, but DID NOT identify himself as a BofA representative. Apparently this goes to a contractor (FIA Card Services) working on behalf of the bank. He was able to tell me the last four transactions on the card, which leads me to believe this is legitimate (if they have access to my card records, it better be!).
All of these charges were legitimate, and he said the hold would be taken off my card.
In any event, the amount of information they request is enough to compromise the security of your account. Let them know you want your card security protected!
Alexey 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
Just called this number, it is BOA message center, there was a message about a fraudulent transaction, they knew my CC number and connected me to the rep that promised to send a new card.
Jeff 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
Same experience as many others: I got a voicemail from this number. Then, I called the number on the back of my credit card, and there was a fraud block on my card. I confirmed the charges.
I'm shocked that BofA would actually tell you to call this number, rather than say, "Please call the number on the back of your credit card." Banks suck at security.
HJD 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
I called Ban of America via the number on the back of my card (800), and there was a fraud block. There were several charges made that were not mine, and the account was closed. The number that appeared on the caller ID (866) must be valid, unless whomever acquired the card info also setup this 866 number to try to phish info. In short, I didn't call back the 866 number, but there were fraudulent charges to my account.
Mel 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
This is a phishing scam - they call saying they are from B of A and try to get you to the website and enter your credit card number. DO NOT DO THIS or call them.
TIFFNEY 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
CRAP THEY CALLED ASKING TO SPEAK TO MY 11 YEAR OLD SON BEWARE
GC 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
Not a scam. This is a legitimate BoA site. I called the # on the back of my card and spoke with the service rep about it. I am very wary of these things and always check them out before giving out info (that they should already have). BIG Kudos to BoA for nipping this in the bud. Someone fraudulently put several hundred $$ on my card several days after trying a $1 online charge to make sure that it would work. I am (now) a huge fan of credit report service and online bank statement/account monitoring. I recommend both...
For those of you who stated that you do not have a BoA card, better recheck the Who's Who in banking these days.... BoA bought out MBNA and several other companies recently. Check your statements promptly when they arrive or go online and check frequently.
Jesse 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
This is actually a valid BoA number. Fraud protection is a good thing and these folks are right on top of things.
PHISHIING SCAM 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
No, it is NOT a legitimate site and anyone claiming it to be must be part of the scam.
Why would you take the word of an anonymous person here saying, "Go ahead! Trust me... it's legitimate." ???
Wise up folks! Banks don't call you and ask you to visit websites with foreign URLs or enter information about yourself that they should already know.
nevermind 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
1-866-559-0025 is a phishing scam. I called Bank of America just now,
and they confirmed it is a phishing scam; the website is part of the scam.
Just wanted to let you all know. The criminals are out of the country and B of A said they cannot stop them because they are out of country.
gone phishing 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
I haven't had a B of A account in 8 years. Wonder where the 103 dollars came from?
LarryBoy Colorado 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
This is a LEGIT site. I was very careful when I called. All I had to enter was the last four of my social (which I did NOT do), *OR* my zipcode. They then read off to me my last three transactions, and THEY knew the date, location and amount and asked me to confirm as legitimate or not. I did not disclose anything dangerous.
JimM-StLouis 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
This is legit. I did not call the number to confirm it, I called the number on the back of my credit card. After talking with Bank of America over the phone I am convinced that this number is a legit number just trying to protect you. However whenever in doubt just call the number on the back of your card.
Sandy 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
It is legit. I did think it was odd they left a message on my work phone number instead of my home number. I logged in to my BofA account and it provided a link to the website. All it wanted was verification of my last 3 transactions. I also called BofA and they verified it is legit. Always call the number on the back of your card if you're not sure.
jaybee 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
Seems like a phishing call. Either that, or Bank of America has the wrong number for someone who has a legitimate account. They identified the wrong person (no one by that name lives at this number). They asked me to call them because there has been fraudulent activity on my account. They used the wrong person's name and no one in this household has a Bank of America account, nor have we ever had one. I am sorry for the person they were trying to reach, if indeed that person exists. How could B of A possibly have the wrong contact number for someone who has a credit card with them?
Oscar 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown
Legit site and number and it's an added value service I wish other banks would offer.

The call and number was legit!!! Do not ignore it. Jut call the number on the back of your card to verify.
