Received fax wanting to know if we wanted to sell our business. Said they were "currently working with qualified buyers" for my business. Left 866-567-1507 as # to call to be deleted from their fax list. Yeah, right.

Unsolicited fax – that’s illegal, isn’t!? Insurance scam – to good to be true.
| Doug 2011-06-06 21:02:27 Unknown |
If you get UNsolicited faxes, you can file a complaint against the company that is faxing to you and receive compensation of $1500 for receiving UNsolicited faxes. Our association sent out faxes for legit business purposes and were fined because of this

Called 800-880-3281 and spoke to 'Brian" he would not tell me the name of the organization. He said it was called the "Enrollment Center" and that what it says "on his paycheck" They supposedly offer health insurance, mainly to groups (small businesses) and individuals but only during 'open enrollment periods'. He asked what state I was calling from (wonder why they care) and I told him. He said they had 7 spots open, the individual premium was 89.50/mo "guaranteed issue". Heres the catch: $99 non-refundable application fee. I said "if its guaranteed issue why do you have to specify the fee is non refundable?" He stammered and said it was used to cover administrative costs. I asked him for a website or some promotional material, he said "if you're enrolling a group we'll send you some info, individuals will have to call." Scam.
Doug - file a complaint with who? State AG or FTC? Was your assoc. taken to small claims?

It is illegal: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/unwantedfaxes.html
"The [FCC] rules provide that it is unlawful to send unsolicited advertisements to any fax machine, including those at both businesses and residences, without the recipient?s prior express invitation or permission. "
But....
"The FCC can issue warning citations and impose fines against companies violating or suspected of violating the do-not-call rules, but does not award individual damages."
