Did not answer the call.

When I answered, they hung up. So why did they bother to call!

Call from an organization supposedly fronted by Newt Gingrich (who I really like) asking for donations. I despise Obama and think he will be the ruin of our once great country, but I get tired of constantly being hit up for funds for the Republicans. Also get asked for money for the dems because we have a democrat senator who I write to, but he never writes me back except to ask for money. Stupid move on his part.

I called the number a got a real person from "American Solutions". I had signed a petition and mistakenly gave them my phone number. Maybe this really is just another rip-off. I don't understand why they hang up and not leave a message if they are legitimate. Needless to say, I requested they remove my name from their call list.

We get calls from this number all the time, if you answer, there is no one there.

We got so many calls from this number that I just called them, and an electronic menu said if I wanted to contribute, press 1; if I wanted more information, press 2; and for all other issues press 3. I pressed 2, and after a short wait got a man who went into a high-speed pitch about Newt Gingrich having formed this new organization to change everything he wants changed in the government (he spoke so fast I couldn't find a space in which to interrupt him)...and could they count on me for a contribution of $100. I said no, but could they please remove my number from their calling list. He said they would, and he was not rude. I'm feeling hopeful.

866-580-6398 calls - name comes up as '800 service', answering machine picks up and it leaves this high pitched beeping for minutes on end on my answering machine. AWFUL!

Despite being on the Do Not Call list I got so fed up with all these unwanted calls (including from 866-580-6398) I found this neat little unit that can be programmed to either block or send unwanted calls to your answering machine without your phone ever ringing! You can add as many numbers as you want and even program it to have ALL 800, 888, 877, & 866 numbers dumped straight into the answering machine. I’ve had it about three weeks and love it. Found it at BlockTelemarketers.net

This number/call is from Newt Gingrich. He wants to send you an autographed copy of his new book for a mere $100 contribution and to put your name on a proposal to Congress to get things done the way he wants before the 2008 election.

I received a call from this number this morning - no one there when I answered. I googled the # and ended up here. I then called the number, selected option 3 to speak to a live person and had them put my # on their do not call list. We'll see what happens.
| Patrice K 2011-06-06 21:02:33 Unknown |
We've also received calls from this # with no one there when we answer.

Apparently this number has something to do with the Republicans. I'm not sure what they want because they only want to talk to my husband. They always call when he is at work. I have asked them not to call, but they still call back. They are so annoying. I don't have caller ID so I used *69 to get the number.

I did a quick hello and no response in one second, I hung up.....

They call once a day, all different times. We have Caller ID and don't answer anything that says unavailable or unknown. We are on the Do Not Call list and it annoys me that political organizations are exempt from it. If I want to contribute to a candidate, I will. I don't want to be pestered or guilted into it.

FYI political organizations are exempt from the Federal DNC list. Naturally the bum politicians will make sure their calls get through.
Here's what I've done and it works really well. Some years ago I got a stand alone "digital messaging system" by GE. It's made by Thomson which might be a part of GE? Model 2-9992A. First the good news. This thing is terrific! It has caller ID. You can set up 6 different messages and program these telemarketers
into it so they cannot leave a message but can listen to yours if they want.
I have 3 set up. 1st is where I try and explain the concept of an answering machine since they keep calling and don't leave a message. Course that doesn't
solve much so I go to level 2. This is where I tell them if they continue to call and will not leave a message my next step is so my phone will simply hang up on them. That's step 3. Since I love screwing with these cretins I must leave something for them to listen to. I went online an downloaded a 1 Kilo Hertz tone that is pretty long and pretty loud. So now they can listen to it and my phone hangs up. Thing is they must be computer generated calls because I can't see a real person putting up with my devious idea. I thought computer dialed calls were illegal as part of the DNC law. Only one I can't handle are the "no name no number" calls that call me constantly but they hang up on their own pretty quickly. If I'm here I'll lift the handset and wait a while and hang it up. As I said my little system sort of works. Eventually they seem to get the idea and stop calling but it's a never ending battle. I log all these calls and about every 3-4 months I sent in a ton of complaints on the DNC web site.
The bad news is I recently tried to find this model to buy as a backup for the day it finally dies. I couldn't find it anywhere and I'm pretty good at snooping out items on the internet. What's even worse it appeared to me that
stand alone answering machines are basically impossible to find. They're
all bundled in with a phone which I already have. I highly recommend paying the bucks for caller ID. My philosophy is if I don't recognize the number I don't answer it. That's what the answering machine is for.
Sorry to be long winded but maybe you can incorporate some of my ideas yourself.
Lastly I found a pretty funny YouTube clip about how one guy handles these calls. He simply says "yes" to everything they ask. Eventually they realize
he is screwing with them and they hang up. Here's the link:

Almost as good as this classic one, by Tom Mabe, previously on Neatorama: Plight of a Telemarketer
http://howtoprankatelemarketer.ytmnd.com/
That is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just remember every minute they spend getting messed with is a minute they aren't bothering someone else. Don't sit around and put up with their garbage.
Fight back!
Oh here's a freebie about unsolicited postal mailings. If it has a Business Reply Envelope stuff everything you got from them into the envelope and send it back to them. Since it will be overweight they have to pay extra. I have address labels with "DECEASED PLEASE REMOVE FROM MAILING LIST". Slap one of them in the area with your name and address. You will not believe how much it cuts down on the junk mail. I haven't gotten a credit card offer in some years.
Cheers,
