recieved call from "john" at best buy from 866-597-8428 about a pending order.  called this number back and got a msg to call 10 15 15 800 and this is a new number directory that cost about 5.00 a call.  called best buy the store and found out I had 2 fraudulent charges on my credit card at about $1100. BEWARE!!!

I also received call from Best Buy asking about a pending order.  I never got through to the number they provided, so I called the number from the Best Buy website and talked to a customer service agent gave her the order number. Apparently someone ordered a Mac Book and tried to have it shipped to their house.  If you do receive a call like this is it very important that you call up best buy quick and cancel anything that might have been on there.  Also it would be handy to do a check up on your credit report.

A message to call this number was left at my mother-in-law's home.  Best Buy asking about a pending order.  I was able to get through on the 866 number.  My CC was being used to make a $300+ purchase.  I had 2 other fraudulent online purchases that day.  Thank you BB for verifying the purchase and bringing attention to it.

If you get a call from this number, it is legit. It is Best Buy noticing a purchase on your card, and they are calling to make sure it is you making the purchase. If it is you, and you don't answer, they will cancel your order. If it is not you, then you know it is id theft or stolen credit card. No beware, pick up the phone!!

YES, it IS Best Buy calling you.  It was confirmed today by a supervisor on Best Buy's customer service line:

This service call just happened to me today.  Luckily, the only info they had was my shipping address.  The billing address, shipping phone number, billing phone number, and credit card number were not mine.

I was called by someone in Best Buy's verification department, spoke to him, and he said he needed to check a few things, and that he'd call me back.  He did, and gave me the 1-866-597-8428 number to call him back if I needed to, as well as the order number the call was in relation to.  When I checked my caller ID after he called, it was from the (612) 295-1013 number with no caller information available.

So I got the Best Buy customer service number off their website, called that, and spoke to a really helpful guy and his supervisor.  He didn't recognize the 866 or (612) numbers, but his supervisor did, and she said the (612) number is Best Buy's corporate headquarters.  She confirmed that they do have a verification department, and could even see the name of the guy who called me this morning (it matched the name he gave me) and what time he called.

Basically, if you get a call from someone at Best Buy, and they give you the 866 number above, and your caller ID lists the (612) number above, then yes, it IS legit.

Luckily for me, none of my payment info was involved, and it's quite possible that my issue stems from an eBay purchase over a week ago (I bought the same item from a seller on eBay on 11/29 that Best Buy says was ordered from them -- to be shipped to me and billed to someone else -- on 12/4).

Yeap, it's legit.  I called back to phone# on bestbuy.com website, gave the order #, someone buying a 55 inch Samsung TV.  Cancelled now, and I need to call my credit company.  

So, don't ignore the call, call bestbuy.com directly on their website.
