Received a call from this number 1-866-622-2027.  It is a company called Plaza Associates.  They collect past due debts based on individuals who have defaulted on loans.

I too have received numerous calls from this number : 866-622-2027. My name is not connected to the number they are calling, and further more I don't appreciate the calling party saying that I must be lying to them. Old Phone Nos. are givin out to new people everyday! I know for a fact! I was given one about 1 year ago that belonged to another name. How DARE those Debt Collectors assume that someone else should take the BAD rap for another persons Debt! The Debt Collectors should also tell the party they have called who they are so to not confuse them with somebody else or we thinking it might be a Telephone Scam just like on the Internet.

I received calls from this number 866-622-2027, for someone with the same last name as mine. No one with the first name they were looking for lived at my address. They were told this call after call, each time they said they would take my number off their call list but the calls contenued. Three days ago I told them that if I received another call I would seek legal action. No new calls yet. We'll see what happens.

If you accidentally pick up, just repeat everything they say right back at them.  It works for annoying bratty 5 year olds, and likewise, for these annoying people as well.  You'll learn to enjoy accidentally picking up the call when you experience their reactions

They keep calling our number for a person who has the same last name as ours but is not related to us.  I have told them time and time again that this person does not live here.  We have had other collection agencies calling us for this same person.   I have sent certified letters to these agencies threatening them with a law suit if they keep calling.   Once one stops, another one starts.   It is getting expensive sending these registered letters.  Any other way to get them to stop?

I received a call every day from this number - but they never left a message.  I finally called them and asked them why they were calling.  They were very nice and gave me the name of the person they were looking for.  I don't know any by that name and I've had my phone number for over 10 years.  So they kindly said they would remove my number from their list.  The call was pleasant and efficient... Time will tell if it is effective.  But overall, my experience has been positive.

This is a part of the Attorney Mitchell N. Kay organization. They are rude, obnoxious, lacking in collection procedures and fail to respond to ANY type of FDCPA or FCRA notice. If you receive a call or letter from Plaza Associates, hit the flush lever.

NEVER give them any information on your bank/credit accounts, or post-dated checks. YOU WILL REGRET IT!!

Yes, this is a collection agency...and I would inform them that the next time they call, you are filing suit against them for repeatedly calling after they have been told over AND over again that the party they are after does not reside at your number:

Under the TCPA, a consumer has a right to file a lawsuit and recover $500 for each call that violates the TCPA. The TCPA can also be used in conjunction with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in some situations.

Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.

This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc.  NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls.  In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc.  Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.

David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors.  Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call.  Judge Davis wrote;

[The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.

Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.

So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?

1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
3. Contact a consumer lawyer.
