This is a legit number as far as I know. I received a voicemail from this number and it said there was a possible fraudulent charge on my account, but the beginning of the message was cut off so I couldn't tell which company it was from. I found this forum and saw the messages about it being from TD Bank. I checked my account and there was a large charge on it that I did  not make so I called TD Bank directly (not using this number) and the event is being taken care of now.

In the UK we have just been warned about a scam which has been running in the US and Canada for a couple of years.  It seems that scammers have now learned how to spoof the REAL bank numbers when perpetrating this fraud. This means that people are more likely to fall for it and give out their bank information.  The advice we are getting here from the Police and the banks is as follows.  1.  Do not give any information to the caller.  2.  If you have access to another 'phone (not the one you received the call on) then use that 'phone to contact your bank on a number that you know. 3.  If you do not have access to another 'phone then unplug your 'phone and wait 5 or 10 minutes before plugging it bank in and then 'phoning your bank.  The reason for this is that the scammers keep the line open, so if you 'phone back immediately you are, in fact, still through to them.  Sadly, there are people who come on this website saying that the call is legit when they are, in fact, part of the scam and trying to persuade people to just give out their details to the caller.

Legitimate TD Bank.  They wanted to know the phone number they called me on, and then my mailing address.  They then told me all the charges that were made on our bank card today.  I was able to verify all of them.  They had put a fraud hold on my debit card.

This number is a scam.  They left a message saying there was a Fraud Alert on my account with TD Bank.  Foolishly, I called the number back.  I got a message saying all agents were busy--that seemed wrong for a fraud hotline.  So I hung up and called my bank at the normal customer service number.  Sure enough, they said they had no fraud alert on any of my accounts.

If you do call your bank, call a number you know and not this number.

FRAUD! Received a message, called back, but hung up after a Customer Rep sounded that she was asleep and asked me for the number I was calling from.
Called back my back and they had verified that the number does not belong to them and there is no recorded suspicious activity on my account.

I received a message from this number stating they were TD Bank and suspected fraudulent activity. I called TD directly and they had no suspicious activity on their end.

Be careful! Seems like a scam to me!

This is legit. It's a contracted fraud detection unit.

This has happened to me twice, once a year or two ago for ordering merchandise online from Finland, and just today for ordering stuff from the UK. I live in the US, so these random purchases from across the Atlantic Ocean set off some red flags for the fraud detection unit.

Both times I had the issue taken care of by calling TD bank customer service though, I haven't called the actual 866-706-4810 number back.

I received a call on 6/20/13 claiming an issue on my debit card.  I didn't trust the call at first and contacted my bank's customer service directly.  IT WAS LEGITIMATE. Luckily my card was blocked immediately and the bank saved me almost $ 300 from some charge in India.  Customer service said it was always best to contact them directly if I ever felt a call may be fraudulent.

Fraud dept from TDBank called from this # to let me know there had been fraudulent activity on my atm card.  They put a hold on the card for me and told me to go to a branch to get a new one.  I decided to call the bank myself just to make sure, and there had indeed been atm withdrawal attempts and a hold placed on my card.  So this one was real, but it's probably good practice these days to just call the # on the back of your card when you get calls like this.

I believe they're buying time. I think we access fraudulent websites that capture our credit card numbers. They want to go shopping, and what they need is time to do it. So they act as if they're a bank's fraud department and tell us they've cancelled our cards, and to visit our bank to get a new card. They call in the evening so we'll wait 12 or more hours to visit our banks. In the meantime, they can buy anything they want.

If these numbers aren't legitimate, I can't think of any other reason for the calls, because in many cases they don't ask for any additional information. Obviously, they already have our credit card information and just want to reassure us that everything's been handled.

BEWARE!!!!!!

I'm not sure that this is legitimate. I went by the comments above and called the number back. All they asked for was my phone #, and they knew my name. They questioned a purchase that had been declined because the company was in China. I had made a purchase with a brand-new company today, but the amounts were different. They offered to cancel my card or transfer me to TD Bank.

I asked them to cancel my card, and I would visit the bank tomorrow to straighten everything out.

Then I had second thoughts and called TD Bank directly, as someone else above advised. He cancelled my card -- which means it wasn't cancelled the first time.

I'll find out more tomorrow when I visit the bank to get a new card and I'll post whatever I find out. In the meantime (or if I forget to post follow-up tomorrow), if you get such a call, contact your bank directly!!!!!!!

Fraudulent! They called, we called back, they said that there was $2 charge from Alabama and they asked for our credit card number to verify.  No legit company is going to ask for that information.  We hung up, called our bank and there nothing that the person on the phone said. Do not call back, if you worry about it call your bank directly, not this scam company.

It was a phone call from my credit card company calling me on suspicious transactions on my account. Part of the identity theft protection program. I suggest that you call back and make sure that you reach someone as soon as possible it could save you a lot of time and trouble. There's a chance that your card number could be known and used by somebody else. I'm currently on a phone call with my bank because there were two fraudulent transactions made with my card.

This was in fact legit. The red flag was raised because I made an international purchase. They froze my card automatically to be safe. They recommended that I call before I make any international purchases again. Just keep that in mind!

Also just received message from this number on answering machine.  Called back and input the phone number where message was left.  Contected to TD bank.  Not my bank, but other family members and others have used this house number in the past.  Just informed the bank that the individual no longer lives here and we don't have anyway to contact him.

This was LEGIT..when I called back, the menu asked for the phone number where the automated message was left. Punched in my # and a representative from MY bank's risk management dept. answered. Turns out there were $370 in auth's on my debit card at a 7-11 and Home Depot in Florida (I'm in Connecticut).
I'm thankful that I just didn't blow it off as another scam...
