They call a few times a week, never leave a message. I've tried calling them back after hours and I get the sound of a fax machine. It's not possible to leave them a message.

These termites need to stop burrowing into my life...I OWE THEM NOTHING, and they still won't leave me alone. Maybe they presume poor folks will give them money just to be left alone. It won't work with me.

Love the caller description!
PG 2011-11-03 21:39:12 Debt Collector
I got 3 phone msgs from CBCS, plus a letter, regarding a legitimate medical debt for someone who passed away last year, and for whom I am the executor. Somehow they tracked down my phone number.
After several phone messages from them, I decided to call them back, to try to stop the phone calls - took a few tries to get through, but finally did.
Got someone on the phone. They knew (from caller id) the name of the person with the debt. I explained to them the debt wasn't going to be paid (no money in the estate); she was quite polite, and said she'd make a note with the info.
So, though it was a little annoying, I didn't have any problems with them (so far, will see if the calls indeed stop).

Keeps calling asking for person with same last NAME: Just because have the same last name doesnt mean we know are in contact with that person. It should be considered hassesment to keep calling the same numbers and people with the same last name: I'm on the do not call list and these calls should be considered under it. If your looking for someone that should be your problem to get the correct home number or work number not mine to give it to you. For someone else.

They call and leave no message. I don't return calls if the caller does not leave a message.
Let it ring 2011-08-10 16:14:23 Debt Collector
They have several different 800 numbers, they also call from cell phones. They do that so they can get around the limited calls law. They have several PO Box's also, so people cannot send them their cease, and desist letters. They pull all of the peoples records to see if and how they can get a hold of the person they want to get a hold of. IE: friends, family, co workers, place of business a person works at, or worked at, old phone records, so they can go through the list of calls and call the people on the list, even if it the person called them once. They want to change the laws that are in place right now, so they can get more information about a person: their cell phone numbers, their email address' you name it, and also to be able to have the people they are calling be held accountable, like paying a fine, etc., for being rude to them on the phone or in a letter. Oh, and by the way CBCS is the last usually that gets hold on these accounts, they BUY mass past due accounts with telecommunications companies, the medical field etc.. Example: they will buy AT&T's past due accounts over a year old or so, then they go after the people to get their money and charge extra for their services, while AT&T and other companies have already written those accounts off and gotten paid for them. All I can say is just don't answer your phone, turn the ringer off, let the answering machine take it. Usually, it's computer generated phone calls they make from their 800 numbers. They will not stop till they get their money, regardless if it is for you, or for another person and they have the wrong phone number, or name. When they call and talk with people, and the people say they are not this person they believe that person is lying to them. They'll stop calling for awhile, then if they cannot find the person they are really looking for, they will start up again calling that number back. Also, CBCS has been sued on two different lawsuits that I know of and lost, having to pay millions of dollars in damages, they do not belong with BBB so it does no good to contact them to help resolve an issue through BBB. They do not care, all they want is money and that's the bottom line. Good luck to everyone trying to make them pay attention, and listen to what you have to say.

Dont Answer Your Phone 2011-06-06 21:03:03 Unknown
Calls that you do not recognize should NEVER be picked up. If you answer and you are the debtor in question, that starts the clock again on the statute of limitations (so I've heard). DO NOT give up your name. Never give any personal information at all. If you do decide to talk to them DEMAND that they never call you again and send you ALL the information relevant to your account. Don't give them your address. Just tell them they should know it. NEVER NEVER NEVER agree to or do any business by phone with a debt collector. Again, if you do, get a recorder from Walmart and RECORD every single conversation and tell them at the END that you recorded the call. Best yet, tell them you're recording the call while they're telling you their automated prompts. Just say, "I am, too." These d-bags have to sue you to get money. They use harassment and intimidation to get to you. It costs an enormous amount of money to sue you. They also have to notify you in first. Do more research on the internet to learn your rights. They aren't going to take you to court for $5,000. It costs them that much just to put their attys to work and file. It ain't worth it to them. That's why they bully. Ignore them and change your phone number.

collection agency CBCS called them back at 888 325 3826 to tell them to stop calling This is the second time we told them. They promised to stop it and take us off the list but you know they just sell to another collection agency.
Janine 2011-06-06 21:03:03 Unknown
CVCS (Coachella Valley Collection Service)...they are a collection agency for AT&T past due accounts.
They will offer you a deal at half price. Not bad.
Janine 2011-06-06 21:03:03 Unknown
I might be wrong after all...I checked their phone number against CVCS website and it doesn't coincide
But they did have all my information including the amount I owed ATT. So, if it is fraudulent, they did a good job.

I called back 8667605159 and Janet answered with CBCS. CBCS, otherwise known as CBCS National, is a collection agency based out Columbus, Ohio. CBCS is a leader in the collection industry. They are known for illegally trying to collect on accounts that are out of the statute of limitations. They typically send letters stating that you owe them money. They will also call you by phone. Many times they are very rude and will even yell at consumers.
At their website, they claim to specialize in health care collections, but they are also known to collect for telecommunication companies such as MCI WorldCom and Bell South. CBCS seems to be highly disorganized and usually has very little knowledge of the accounts they collect on. They are known to frequently mix up family member names and call the wrong homes and workplaces harassing people that don't even owe them money.
If a CBCS employee ever calls you and asks you for personal information the best thing to do is ask them to quit calling and tell them you will handle the situation by mail. Never give them names of family members, work phone numbers, social security numbers, etc. Don't even tell them where you work. Debt collectors try to upset and intimidate consumers you into paying them money. They will also try to embarrass consumers and make them feel guilty - whatever it takes to get their money.
When dealing with collection agencies like CBCS, it's best to be prepared. Learn your rights and get familiar with the Fait Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). The FDCPA gives consumers the right to dispute and obtain validation of debt information from a collection agency to ensure accuracy. The FDCPA creates guidelines under which debt collectors may conduct business and eliminates abusive debt collection practices.

These IDIOTS keep calling a PUBLIC INFORMATION number at the STATE GOVERNMENT AGENCY where I am employed. They always call after business hours and never leave a message. The number shows up on our VOIP displays. I don't even know WHICH number they're calling because the phone on my desk routes calls for five distinct office groups.
Si KJovit 2011-06-06 21:03:03 Unknown
Is it any more or any less annoying for such calls to be made to Government Agencies?
