Why do they put TOLL FREE CALL as their caller ID? If it's UPS they should announce it because I don't pick up calls from anonymous callers. I am expecting a package tomorrow, and they were ignored because of this.
Thanks for the information everyone....

I'm yet to be convinced this is not a scam. I got a msg on my phone stating I had a package requiring a signature and the tracking number was left on the phone. However, when I went on UPS' site to track, it said the tracking number was invalid. I'm not going to be calling the number back to see if it is legit or not, because anyone can leave anything they want on an answering machine/voicemail. But I'll see what happens, maybe I will get something unexpected in the mail and be pleasantly surprised! :o)

Why would you want a telemarker to put you on their valid number list? As you know, you can't *67 block a call to a toll free number. They're paying for the call, so they get to know who is calling them. That's why the them. Just try asking a telemarker or collection agency for thier local number.

It is an automated call from UPS to notify you that a signature is required for a new shipment. If you placed an expensive order, they want to make sure the recipient at the shipping address signs off. It isn't a scam.

It is UPS as they say it is. You know what's funny, the homo who says it's from going to a gay bar, WTF? Keep your homosexuality to yourself you make me sick. If your going to just make things up, do it somewhere else.

The number is 100% legit UPS.
I was expecting a package and it was a call to let me know that a signature is required.
ANYONE can call back this number. If its legit then they will give you the info on the package. IF ITS A SCAM.. THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM CALLING THIS NUMBER BECAUSE THE NUMBER IS A UPS LEGIT NUMBER.
I think you all can tell that there are many people that WAS expecting a package from UPS and got it when the call said.
SO the number is legit.. The actual phone message might or might not be a scam. I

Its ups, means you have delivery coming that requires a signature

I did not order anything to be getting a call from this number. Please stop calls. I get any important calls on my land line. Thanks
skyken 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
It was in fact UPS calling for a delivery being made tomorrow which I expectr. They make this call to let you know someone has to sign for it or there is a COD, in my case it is for a camera and I need to sign. If no one is home when they attempt the first delivery, they wll leave an info notice. I called the number back to get this info. If you call 800pickups they have no knowledge of the automated system as its not their job. It is legitimate.

It's UPS! calling to say they have a package for me that requires a signature. I am expecting a package and it is legitimate. Course it's useless if they don't leave a message

Unknown caller, no message. I am expecting a UPS package tomorrow and the online tracking shows signature is required so I'm assuming this was a call to let me know that. Not sure why they don't leave a message though. I think its a good idea since my UPS delivery's rarely require a signature. I'm not normally worried about being home, but had noticed the signature required online when my item shipped so made plans to be here. But if someone hadn't seen that online they wouldn't realize that, so a call is good. A voicemail would be better - since many people like myself do not answer calls from unknown numbers.

you are full of S**T
DO NOT CALL BACK TO THAT NUMBER! IT IS A TRICK DON'T FALL FOR IT
Nick 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
they say UPS has a shippment

Both sides are correct.
This is the legit number for the UPS delivery notice service. HOWEVER, it is super easy for scammers to spoof caller ID info. This is what they're doing here.. so some people get a legit call, but it looks like most are getting the fake ones.
Scammers make calls like this to see if you'll respond. They then provide these lists to others or use them themselves to harass you with other scams and robocalls. What they're doing is illegal to begin with, and no Do Not Call will protect you.
IF YOU GET AN "UNKNOWN", "BLOCKED", OR TOLL FREE CALL YOU DON'T RECOGNIZE, DON'T ANSWER IT. If it's legit, they'll leave a message. If they don't, it's likely a scam, and responding to them will only ensure that you'll get more of them. I used to deal with 5 or 6 scam calls a day, and finally had to change my number. I don't answer these anymore, and apart from the occasional call like this one I got today, scammers haven't bothered me since.

I don't have any packages coming.. so why would they be calling me ?
Paul Talbott 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
becuse the "do not call list "does NOT block any toll free numbers or the prefixes used by charities and/or political entities, which sucks because I get several each day!
Paul Talbott 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
I HATE that these idiots are using a" toll free svc" number, nearly all of those are solicitors so I didn't answer it, especially at 8 in the morning... If it had UPS anywheres in the title, I would have answered it.

I got a call from 866 777-0678 and there was an automated message with a non-working tracking number. As well it said I ordered from XM Radio, but I've never ordered from XM Radio and I have no other orders in route.

Apparently a much MORE novel idea!
Clyde Willing 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
Received a call this morning but would not leave a MSG who is it calling and why do they call when you are on the DO NOT CALL LIST ?
RJ 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
Just got a call (on a Tuesday ... cue Twilight Zone riff) with the same pattern as above. I let it go to VM and there was no message. I did not call them (I'm chicken) and I am not expecting any UPS packages.
I agree with the poster above who thought it was a harmless waste of time, though from the abundance of posts on this number I think there may be some unusual going on. Are we the unwitting participants in somebody's unsanctioned social psych experiment? Who knows.

HB 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
It is UPS. I had 3 missed calls no message at all. I am expecting a signature required delivery tomorrow. Now if only they'd ring the doorbell instead of just knocking.
LEAVE A MESSAGE, UPS!
DFC 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
Well, I am expecting a package from UPS, and indeed, this was UPS calling me (automated) to inform me that it was coming the next day. So, there you have it.
Kevin 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
People, don't be dumb. It is not a valid number.
I got a call from this number 2 weeks ago Tuesday, and again this Tuesday. The first time, it went to voicemail. They did not leave a tracking number. I called UPS and they said that without a tracking number, there is nothing they can do to look up a package (liar!).
The 2nd time this number called me (this week, Tuesday), I answered. It said I had a package coming the next day that I had to sign for. It said to press a button (I forget which) to hear the tracking number, and I did, but it only gave me a couple seconds to press it and I didnt do it fast enough. Then it just said goodbye and hung up. I called UPS again. This time, the guy admitted that he could look it up with an address. No packages were scheduled to be deliverd to my place (and none were delivered either). The man said that there have been reports of fraudulent numbers calling people, and said not to worry. He didn't seem to know anything more about the fraud callers, nor did he care to. He didn't even ask me for the number that the call came in from. He just said to ignore it and not to worry.
I called the number back and it goes to an automated message, claiming to be UPS and just says that if you got a call from that number, its because you have a package coming.
I can't really see any benefit to this fraud calling other than to be a nuisance. They already have my number, since they called me twice. I didnt have to pay for anything, nothing was stolen. If anything, they are just trying to waste some of my time, to no benefit of their own. If UPS was really concerned, they could work with the phone company to track down the owner of that number, and put an end to this. They just don't seem to care.

I got this call as well. same thing too.. invalid tracking number. is it a scam or something? because they try to call me a lot. and i havnt ordered anything online in a long time.
Joergen Geerds 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
got a 8am VM on my cell from this number, an automated voice reciting a tracking number that kinda looks like a valid UPS number, but it isn't... would be interesting to see what kind of scam this is supposed to be.
john 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
Or just call any number back that calls you. You should be "Jammed" by the end of the month. Bye bye minutes!
joshua katt 2011-06-06 21:03:07 Unknown
It is UPS. Stupid that only 3 seconds of tones were left and not a full message saying they are coming today with a signiture required package (coins from the US Mint so I see why). Thanks to above, I've been able to figure this out.
Why call at 8am and not the night before and LEAVE A MESSAGE, UPS !!!!!!
