Obviously, You've never been scammed by someone, law office, debt collector, etc... If you had, you'd have a totally different tune you'd be singing. My advice to you would be to know what you're talking about before you run your mouth. THIS company is a scam. Has ripped off people left and right and gets away w/it. Don't run your mouth until you've experience what others have experienced. That makes YOU the loser!!!!!!!!!!!

Event Reminder
I am merely confused at the fuss about a Debt Collector or Attorney firm...The fact is you run from your debt they will find you. And that makes you upset? When the truth is if you call your creditors, instead of ignoring them the will not turn your accounts over to them. The Attorney in question is Lic and Barred with the State of Texas. How about pay what you owe instead of wasting time and energy blogging...Guess what, they are NOT going anywhere unless you resolve your debts...Funny story, I was at a Resteraunt the other day, A ladies card got declined, and she went off on the cashier about it??? Thats what you guys are doing; getting upset about something YOU created....C'mon people lets be real for a second here....Stop playing the blame game, only LOSERS, blame someone else for something they done or their on Mishaps! Winners create a Solution...Mama always said if you point a finger you have 3, pointing back at you....

Debt Collector
This so called attorney firm are the lowest form of scumbag there is.
they are trying to collect a debt from me that i DO NOT owe. the company that they say i owe is owned by the same firm, they have complaints filed about them all over the internet they absolutely throw out the fair debt collection practices act. i don't understand how their still doing business ...

The company that they say i owe NEVER preformed ANY service for me what so ever.
on top of that they call my place of business harassing my employees.
TRUE GARBAGE THAT THRIVES ON THREATS AND SLANDER FOR PERSONAL GAIN
if i owed the debt i would pay it plain and simple but I DO NOT!!.. AND I WONT.

Debt Collector
I just gave the complaining company a new Canoe, a Camper and a Yard trailer for the work performed and now they want another $1,200.00. They stole a boat trailer out of my yard and took my extention cord with them when they were done. They left me with a real mess and what was originally a clogged sink drain is now a clogged shower drain that they refuse to repair. Tile dust and the odor of sewage permeate my house. The complaining company and WC French had better back off! I am in the process of engaging in my own litigation against this company.
just pay your debts!

Just FYI, I think you are just trying to be smart and want to look like a hero. The reason why the collectors shut up after you tell them that you have made a payment a day, week or even month before you received the call, is because they then contact the business you owe money to to confirm. They still get a piece of the pie. They also call to confirm so that they do not keep bothering you. Most of you owe hundreds of dollars, which honestly, is crap to them. They want to get rid of small accounts to get to the real money. So just pay your bills, whether is to a collector or the company you owe money to. Either way, the collector will recieve compensation and you as a debtor will be left alone.

If you have paid a debt, all you have to tell collectors is the date on which it was cleared by the bank, and a check# so that they can verify with their client. After that, they call their client to confirm payment. So, they actually get the people you owed money to, off YOUR back.

PAY YOUR BILLS!!!!!!!

And to the other person with the great information about not being able to collect in NEVADA.......THAT IS ONLY ONE STATE!!!!!! If the lawyer can practice in the rest of the states, then he must be doing something right. If you don't live in NEVADA, then he can definitely call YOU and collect MONEY YOU OWE!!!!!!

Uh, yeah, Holier than Thou. How about in our case where they keep calling leaving threatening messages for a name and business we've never heard of. We have called and left them a msg informing them that they were threatening the wrong people, and also not within the law, at that - we've kept the recordings just in case they get abusive and frequent enough to report. You would think they would do due diligence and even pay for Intellius before they harass people who have completely different names and addresses than their prey, or as you say, morons.  Real professional. So do your background work before you act and stop trolling the boards.

I  love it when the Misinformed make unjustified comments like this one....Sir/ Ma'am you are sadly mistaken here. You are setting these bloggers up for failure. You may want to read the Laws, before making unjustified comments. See for yourself it is all public records. Mr. French has won a lot of cases on his clients behalf. You all are upset about not handling your responsibilties??? Only in America.

I received a letter from this "firm" asking me to pay over three grand becasue they supposedly represent a tax payment service that paid too much money into an unidentified account under my name to pay the taxes on my home mortgage. The letter is so hideous, has several mistakes, presumes that the money was both paid into my "account" and to the "taxing authorities".

My first clue that it was a scam is that I don't have a mortgage on my residence that has escrow accounts. I pay my taxes myself.

They rarely answer the phone and, if they do, the person they ask you to call is conveniently away from the office.

SCAM.

There are times I've been behind and had bill collectors call.  I routinely send a (good) check to the actual business for the original amount, and I've never had one refused.  That way the business gets the whole amount rather than losing the chunk taken out by the bill collector -- it's win-win.  When I tell the bill collector that the debt was paid and they can verify it with the business, it shuts them up.  You have to stonewall till you know the check has cleared, but this saves a great deal of money and aggravation.  If you pay the collection agency directly, they have no shame about either adding more fees or trying to dun you twice for the same debt, claiming that the first payment was never received.  NEVER pay with a money order or other instrument where you cannot get proof that it was cashed, even if they demand it.  Send any letters return receipt requested.  If you have the receipt, that makes it way harder to deny that a payment was made.

If you don't owe anything the law provides that you can demand proof of the debt.  The few times some idiot has tried to dun me for something I don't owe, usually by twisting or misstating the terms in a contract ("the business is bankrupt, I'm the attorney/CPA, and you owe X$"), I demand proof of the debt and a day in court.  Then I never hear from them again.

And don't be shy about showing up in small claims court with your mail receipts, payment receipts, image of cashed check, etc.  Tip: spend an afternoon or two in court before you go for your own case -- it's a real education in the ways people and businesses screw up, and how the court works.

P.S.  Everyone, this is definitely a fraud.  I received the same voicemail and my credit is perfect and have nothing late or past due.  It's sad when there are dishonest people in the world trying to take advantage of other hard working people so that these dishonest people can get unfairly and illegally compensated.

@ any/all of you.... you should pay whatever bill you owe that has been turned over to them.... they DO SUE for their clients. I know from personal experience.
As for the connection to myownsanta.com, the attorney is LEGIT, is licensed and a member in good standing with the state bar.... and he has been a registered SANTA for MANY years.
Don't confuse your inability/unwillingness to meet your obligations with someone who is making a living and, in spite of morons like all of you... tries to bring some joy into the lives of children, year round, not just at Christmas.

Psh. Don't know whether you should pay a bill with them or not.

I DO KNOW that they've been given cease & desist orders for violating the debt collection laws of various states. See, for example this one out of Nevada against "Law Office of W.C. French":

http://fid.state.nv.us/Notices/2009/2009-03-10_CDLawOfficesOfWCFrench.pdf

They look like bottom feeders who don't care if they do things the right way - the kind of folks who give debt collectors a bad name.

The fax number for the Law Offices of WC French is 713-789-0137.  There is no way I have found to email these bottom feeders, but when you up W.C. French (the owner of the law firm) on Linkedin, you will see (ironically!) that he runs a Santa Claus business in the Houston, TX area.

The website is http://myownsanta.com/home.  There is an email address for him on that site that can be used to send him email about the abuses of his "law firm."
